    I picked up an unused gen3 pvs-7 for under $2k. For what it offers, it is a great device. It isn't "just as good", but I can still to everything a mono or dual tube can, albeit not as efficiently. Some people say that it is unusable, but it absolutely isn't. Just like a pvs-14, you just need to adapt to its quirks, and it will get the job done just fine. I love it and would absolutely recommend it to anyone who doesn't have $5k to spend on something better, or if you are a beginner, it is much easier on the brain to use a pvs-7 rather than a pvs-14 since your eyes aren't giving you conflicting information. The reason I got one? I just like the gulf-war cyclops look. I think the pvs-7 looks cool. I used to run the PVS-14, and my brother has dual-tubes. Even he was surprised at how good it was after hearing how bad they are from the night vision community. My complaints are the eye lenses being half the size as all the others, the bayonet mount that is molded into the body, and the lack of manual gain (not all, but the VAST majority are auto-gain). Must-haves are a Crye Nightcap- because it is the only skull-crusher that I can wear comfortably all night, and the spot-flood IR adjustable lens. That little clip-on lens can make the IR light go from seeing an entire room, to illuminating a tree a hundred yards away. It is comparable to the illuminator on a DBAL A3- truly phenomenal. Its good to see the PVS-7 getting at least a little credit, because at the end of the day, it still lets you see in the freaking dark. Oh, and the battery life is ridiculously long. 2 AA lithium batteries will keep that thing going round the clock for like a week and a half.

    I’ve hated night vision when I served. The PVS 14s I was issued just didn’t make me comfortable using them. When I got in my the community after my service, I fell in love with the PVS 7. The one I used was WP and just being able to have lenses over both eyes made all the difference in feeling confident I could work. Not to mention I was messing with cheap digital night vision for a few months before using the PVS 7. It was all a smooth transition. I’d like to try some dual tube NV to see if there’s a dramatic difference. But currently, the WP PVS 7 is my baby.

    Compared to my duals, the PVS 7 kinda sucks. as a first time user though, the 7 is great and easy to get used to.

    I was an infantryman in the Marine Corps from '95 to '99. Squad leaders and team leaders carried the PVS-7s. We loved them because they were "cutting edge" compared to the PVS-4s, which we still had in our inventory. Depth perception was an issue with them, but we trained around it, so it wasn't a major problem. I guess it was just what we knew at the time. Recently, I've been looking to pick up some night vision, and I'm definitely considering a PVS-7.

    $1200 vs $2400 for a 14 with mounts included. REALLY tough bullet to bite but I'll go for the 14s and get a 7 later as a backup unit.

    I still own a PVS-7 and it gets the job done, though the bayonet mount is subpar compared to dovetail. Things I like about it, retention points work with stock retention lanyards, and second using a 3x afocal gives it an edge for observation applications.

  • @tamimfares3020
    @tamimfares3020Ай бұрын

    Just like anything, getting the hours in using your equipment in a training environment will more than make up for any deficiencies. PVS7's biggest drawback IMO is the lack of depth perception, which will come as no surprise to anyone who's used them. Aiming isn't as big an issue if your IR laser is zeroed because you can still get accurate rounds downrange (again, practice) without approaching the optic itself. Walking through the woods on a no lume night can absolutely be a pain in the ass, but again, practice. I used these things for years in the military, deployed to Iraq with them. Was I stoked when I finally got issued 14's? Hell yes! But the 7's were still being used by my privates as late as 2010 in Afghanistan, and we did just fine. 7's are the shit, in their own way. The user just needs to get hours under NOD to feel comfortable moving and shooting with them.

    In 2023 I paid 975 for my pvs7 has a gen 3 contract tube in it and is milsurp pvs-7. It does get the job done for me. They say AKS-74 rifle is obsolete and I have it outfitted with Zenitco and klesch 2d gen 2 and a perst 4 IR laser and eotech 512 and I run it just fun, sure AK-12 or more modern style light weight AK be nice, but I can deal with what I have and it works.

    I have owned a pvs7 gen 3 for almost a year now, i have to say when i focus very close the lack of depth perception is noticeable but i think it is more the image Excessively close apart from that what bothers me are the small very limited lenses sometimes it seems that I can't focus as if my eyes are straining so much. I think I will upgrade to a rnvg gp gen 3 but still the pvs7 is still a great nvg.

    I have used both in the military. One of my favorite advantages is being able to move long distance at night so unless you can afford 2 pvs14s go with the pvs 7 because using one eye on a mono will cause tremendous discomfort in less than an hour and that's if you are a real badass 30 minutes for normal people

    So I have a rock river mid length carry handle AR. I’m either debating putting a small micro tube style on the top directly or getting a quad rail and running my eotech far out in front of the carry handle. Eotechs are really good under nods it seems. I have an EXPS3. Think it would be doable with PVS7 for passive aiming or get a Holosun laser or something?

    I just bought a PVS7 and I don’t see why people cringe on it. Ive used a pvs 14 for 6 years all together and there’s not that many differences. I can run around corners and obstacles no problem. For aiming down a sight just get a carry handle height riser and a big window red dot. Other than that it’s damn good for a gen 3 pvs 7
