    I appreciate the comment and your viewership. I hope to come back to this at some point and build another one chambered in a cartridge light enough to work as a straight blowback, maybe 9mm or 9x18 Makarov. The pivoting magwell is neat for a operational replica like this, but it ads a lot of unusual complexity and timing issues to the design. Thanks again for watching!

    the designers put so much work into designing this makeshift machine gun and yet due to the game's power scaling most players will replace it with an AK first chance they get. then in exodus they switched the ammo type to handgun bullets meaning you couldn't carry as much reserve ammo, compared to the kalash and Bulldog's rifle rounds, which for an SMG just means you can't use it properly

  • @Gameprojordan

    @Gameprojordan

    3 жыл бұрын

    I don't mind tbh. It's not supposed to be some ultra good gun, it's just a gun cobbled together with whatever spare parts were around, just because it looks unique and has an unorthodox feeding mechanism doesn't mean much, that could have just been a necessity to make the mechanism that way with whatever spare parts they had available since even something like a simple open bolt gun would require atleast a lathe to mill the bolt out of, and I find it hard to believe solid ingots of metal and lathes are abundant in a city metro. Just because it isn't in the spotlight doesn't mean it's worthless. It's meant to be the workhorse for the average metro dweller: nothing special but gets the job done, and is available everywhere for cheap, but whenever a better alternative is available you should replace it ASAP as a pre war factory made gun like the Kakash will always be more rugged and reliable, which makes sense in a real world aspect. Anyone would choose an AK over some jury rigged semi reliable handmade gun

    The magazine well moving up and down is related to feeding, not locking. It's doing so because the magazine/feed-strip has 2 rows of cartridges, and it needs to go downward to feed from the upper row. I'm not sure the Bastard has a locked breech at all, and it might not need one if the ammunition in universe is as underpowered as it seems.

    @@wesleygetsinger1859 5.45x39mm is what you meant, and the load it fires is typically a lighter bullet moving at a slower pace than a 5.56x45mm round(what we use in the West), but it's effective enough and was designed for the same purpose: lighter weight and lower recoil so troops could carry more ammo and expend it more quickly while keeping the same relative logistical longevity. More rounds downrange equals a higher probability to hit, and a hit that wounds(and leaves pretty nasty wounds, at that) is nearly as likely to take someone out of the fight as a hit that kills, so intermediate rifle cartridges like 5.45x39 and 5.56x45 have become standard over full power(high recoil and weight) rifle cartridges like .308/7.62x51mm or 7.62x54mmR. I think the "underpowered" nature of the cartridge in-game is just a balancing design choice by the developers, but it makes some narrative sense given the two tiers of ammo that you can find(at least in the first game, which is the only one I've played).

    Well both the MGR and the bog standard ammo are dimensionally the same 5.45x39 mm . The same round the real life AK-74 and many other Russian rifles afterwards were chambered in. And considering the Bastard in game can fire MGR which in game lore is pre war made ammo..Well chambering a real life Bastard in a lower powered cartridge simply for the sake of ease seems like cheating. Afterall if some illiterate post apocalyptic Russian gunsmith can create a carbine out of metro scrap that can handle rifle caliber pressure..Ain't no reason a present day gunsmith with full access to machinery , tools, and supplies can't do the same.

In that short receiver you need the bolt to have enough throw to pull that case behind the mag/clip it feeds from to eject. I can't wrap my head around it with the size of the weapon and all. You'd need a long ass receiver to do it. Then again it's a fictional weapon so eh. Would look awesome in game and irl if it fed from ak74 mags

    Well the shambler is clearly a single shot shotgun with a rotary external ammunition holder and feed mechanism. How it's maintaining spring pressure on said rotary mechanism is anyone's guess. The Volt Driver is simple . It's a rail gun , a weapon using two opposing charged rails with conductive ammunition to bridge said opposing charged rails. The rails however are set up in a relatively up position compared to the ammunition which is going relatively sideways compared to the rails. The only hard part is understanding how the gunsmiths of the Metro developed a power system for it that is both powerful enough to make the thing lethal and man portable . As real life examples of man portable rail guns have less punch than a airsoft gun and are the size and weight of anti material rifles. The bicycle gun is beyond me but I have seen some ghetto ass designs fire live ammo so I can't discount it. The Bastard gun itself is a crude sten gun. Which is actually quite the accomplishment considering the Sten isn't exactly all that fancy to begin with. Also that poor bolt having to bounce up and down because of the double stacked horizontally fed magazine.

    The Shambled is obviously taken inspiration from the Cobray Striker, so it probably works the same. The steel balls firing gun is probably a modified airsoft gun with more pressure. Bastard gun is here The double barrel shotgun actually confused me since why the hell don't they just used side by side breach opening? It would actually be way the fuck more simple that way.

    I think if the cartridge is aligned with the chamber, it would be impossible to feed. But maybe it would work if the en-bloc only moved left to right, and the bolt pushed the cartridges onto a feed ramp which would then let it slide into the chamber? Correct me if I'm wrong

    Not to insult your work, this is actually impressive, but there's a reason every major combatant switched to a simplified blowback SMG: they're relatively easy to make and hard to fuck up. Australia's SMG was literally designed by a dude in a shack. Now, the magazine is a whole other story.
