Ironhead Sally

Ironhead Sally

Old School Bikes and Old School Ways! Ride hard, wrench a lot, and always having a blast.
Bike camping, wrenching, and shenanigans. My husband and I create motorcycle content for people that are tired of seeing all of the fake insta accounts of sponsored boring yuppies.

Here's some realness, we are just broke bikers living the low life and getting by. I ride a 1985 Ironhead Chopper as my daily, my touring bike is a 1984 FXR. We have lots of Ironheads and FXRs and are constantly building more, trying to keep these old neglected scoots on the road instead of rotting away in a garage.

Appreciate all the love & support

Keeping it Real! Keep it Sketchy!

FTW💚Sally

Harley parts just as cheap and nasty, I had the riser pull out of the top of my x-bones springer forks, was cheap alloy and the threads had stripped right off!

If the 750 Honda motor is in bad shape it will break the bank to rebuild - just for parts. You will be better off locating and buying a running used motor.

The 450 clutch is slipping when you are kicking it. The kick start drives the crank thru the clutch. Take the clutch apart and rough up the steel plates on your grinder - will get you going.

Pick up a BMW Air Head for your daily driver and once you drive one you will get rid of the other problem bike and this way you will only have one that will give you no problems! And remember when the USA and the UK was playing with prop planes Germany was using jets!

That goes for 5" band clamps too. Got two from Peterbilt and they were not cheap, so I ordered 4 from Amazon. You can feel the cheapness and the bolts were even shit. One actually broke before I even got close to the torque spec. Fukk all that Chinese bullshit!

I'm at a point where I don't even have to argue or haggle anymore. My labor rate is 150 dollars an hour and I usually bill out around 60 hours a week. Half of that nowadays is motorcycles which I dint even see coming. ( Misspelling is on purpose. Give you a touch of my speech. Southern). Anyway, I'm 56 and have built a business that I can almost just call and look at the spreadsheets in the morning. My goal is to get me an R.V. and trailer to hold two or three of my bikes and go visit everyone I subscribe to. Damn seeing the grand canyon and Niagra falls. Driving around the country drinking a little and smoking a little and just enjoying life and the people I meet and figuring out who to leave my shit to.(I have no family) and don't want the state or the Fed's to just have it. Beginning of next year. Try and remember to not let the small stuff get to you. It's all small stuff. Be thankful for your health. Be thankful for your mental health. Whatever your problems try and remember that in this world children are sex trafficked, children are born with aids and cancer. Children are literally starving to death everyday. So that being said and not to be "rough around the edges" as everyone says to me.( Which I call don't beat the bush honest) you have a world of blessing to be thankful for. Concentrate on your blessings, be pissed off at the punks that take advantage of you, let everyone know. It ain't like Trump got shot!😮😊😂

So if you buy them from China that's on you. If you buy them from an American company or even a broker that's an American citizen they will be liable and the government doesn't play that shit. That being said everyone knows that stock Harley handlebars are just as bad if not worse than the Chinese counterparts. As far as "it's a given" thought process. Throw that shit out the door, tell them what you want done. Learn to do all your work and buy the tools to do it. I know that's expensive but it's really the only way. I've heard a lot if shit about dragon. Just like a salvage yard or a second rate used car dealer. Your just gonna have to suffer until you find your "team". I'm a professional mechanic without the fancy uniforms and missing teeth (motorcycle crashes) there are people who will not let anyone touch their cars but me. We are talking 6 figure cars. Also marine engines, motorcycles, tractors and anything gas fired. I tell people that bring things to me all the time, I've never done this before. Their trust in me when they say go ahead is priceless. As I have a grasp on the theory and I'm honest and very fucking smart I'll tackle almost anything and succeed with flying success. I will not do offshore boats and I will not do aviation. My ego will never get in the way of someone's safety. You guys keep doing what your doing. Enjoy it! There will be some spots where you get shitted and thank the Lord for it. The process of elimination is just as effective as any system out there. I'm a stereotypical biker that doesn't want to hear anyone's shit and your money don't make me any difference because I have enough of it to be who I want to be and I represent myself in a manner that it ain't hard to look in the mirror. So when some of my shirt and tie customers bring me a 1972 Ferrari I tell them without batting an eye, if you need daily updates I can tell you what's not wrong with the car. When you figure out what's not wrong with it, it leads you to the suspect. Process of elimination. Like my customers, when you find that person you need that's honest and backs it up with professional results, treasure them. They have a waiting list I assure you. It'll take time, disappoinment and money you don't want to waste but that's the price for the ticket to the amusement park. Good luck and thanks for posting. I enjoy your videos.

I appreciate the love you guys have for bikes and bike riders. I bought a brand new bike this year and the cost of service work is frightening to me. I ordered the full service manual and have installed all own parts so far. It’s fun and you get to really know your bike. I’ve already found a few mistakes from the factory that I have taken care of. Thanks for the video.

My brother in law worked for our state. The bridges are in Terrible condition. So for infrastructure projects they are redoing every curb around my town to put ramps on them and make them Handicapped Accessible. That is great and I'm all for it except that should be at the bottom of the list. You can't enter my county without driving over a bridge and all of them need work. They dumped some rocks around the base of the supports to slow the scowering of the land around the supports.

I have run into these problems over and over with cheap parts. I hear it all the time. "I got it a lot cheaper on Amazon". Well you get what you pay for. Great to be pointing this out to others, especially those riser caps. The average guy doesn't understand the importance of these small things. Great video!

With fasteners you only need as much thread as per the width of the bolt. But I feel better with more thread anyway. Also have a hard time with trying to not buy crap chinese parts and metric fasteners. It's just unAmerican and as bad as capitulating to a foreign foe.

Unfortunately all to true. Buy nicely rapped parts from a Harley dealership with made in USA stamped on wrapping only to find made in China stamped on the part. My 2004 twin cam did seventy thousand kilometres before the cam chain tensioners wore through to the metal. Had the gear drive set-up fitted with new fowlers and adjustable push rods fitted. Has now done one hundred and eighty-five thousand kilometres with no problems. All the half complement needle bearings were changed out for full complement bearings. Bearings should also be changed on Evolution motors also. Twin cam motors dropped the mechanical tensioners for hydraulic tensioners with the introduction of the six speed transmission. Also the mechanical tensioner on the the primary drive was also changed to an automatic tensioner which can over tighten under burnouts or wheel standing or such treatment. Cheers from down under 🇦🇺 Stan.

Yup.... bought a new brake rotor for an Evo Softail years ago that came in a Harley box with "made in USA" and an American Flag on it. Popped open the box at the parts counter and showed the parts guy and everyone standing there who were shit-talking "that douche that rode the rice burner to the Harley dealership" (which was ME because I had to borrow a buddy's Honda to get up there and get a rotor for the Softail right before we were going on a big ride). The rotor was engraved "Sunstar.... Made in Japan" right in the middle. I made a point to let those trash talkers know that the Harley OEM rotor was no more American than that Honda Shadow I borrowed to ride up there to get a replacement for my ground up rotor.

I love it when people add on their market place listing that the bike was just serviced at the local harley dealership, that just makes me move on to the next listing lmaoooo. you can't trust hardly anyone these days. They hand out tech certificates to anyone who can sign their own name, and if you go into the service area, they have all their "entry level" guys working. The "entry level" guys change a few tires and do a couple 3 holes, then they think they're ready to open their own shops and are the ones who do this crap you're talking about.
