Never thought about using it as a wireless lav mic "receiver". What's a good and decently inexpensive lav mic?

I have an H1; just fantastic for what it is. I would suggest picking up the aforementioned Accessory Pack *and* a RedHead windscreen (whenever that comes out for the H1). The included windscreen in the Accessory Pack is nice for speech/plosives and such but since the H1's mics are pretty sensitive it will pick up any wind noise outside.

You commented about Audio-Technica Pro 88W as a cost effective VHF wireless microphone system. Does this system work with the Canon Rebel T4i? I need to have my "talking heads" feel cable free, but I want to make my synching with my video shot on my DSLR and my dual audio as simple as possible. Comments? Should I look at something else?

@TGITechday Consider the Audio-Technica Pro 88W as a cost effective VHF wireless microphone system. The system includes a belt-pack transmitter, camera mountable receiver and ATR35 omnidirectional lavalier microphone. The wireless receiver will output to your Zoom H1 via the included mini 1/8", 3.5mm cable. B&H # AUPRO88WR35

Just two questions about the inputs. If I wanted to plug in a CD player or a turntable and record stereo audio, would I be able to do that? If so, would the recording come out crystal clear?

I have a question. I read in a forum someone talking about "gate or filter the minor hiss.". I think it means taking away small disturbing sound. Anyone know how to do this to a wav or mp3 file? Is there is a special program for this. Like just taking the voice of a person talking and taking away all the other noice? Grateful for answer.

Does a zoom H1 reduce microphone hiss that you would have if the mic was plugged directly into the camera? Mic: Takstar SG 598 Camera: Nikon D3200 Thanks, the hiss is really bad and I hate it. Other suggestions?

@Searchinganswers Try Audacity (free software widely available) or Apple's Logic. Both have noise cancelled. If you are on a Mac and are shooting video, you will find that iMovie also has some audio controls and although I have no experience with FinalCut Pro X, I would imagine (and have read) that this also has noise reduction / canceling features. Hope that helps. Others more experienced, please add / correct.

I have one, I think sound recorded is great, I also use it as a mic to sing on my band. But as said on the video, it is made of plastic, is super light and not very durable. It eat batteries! so make sure you have a couple or more recharable AA bateries available and charged!

I'm a journalism student who already owns a H4n, however I am considering selling it to get a H1 as it is lighter and more portable (and to make some extra cash.. I know..)... However I do find myself carrying a lot of equitment such as a DSLR and a video camera so I feel that it may be a good option to get the smaller and more portable H1, but I just want to be sure... I don't want to downgrade on audio quality...

  • @BandH

+Ile Sartuzi - Although very similar in terms of audio performance and features I often recommend the Zoom H1 where its smaller, slimmer form factor would be advantageous (i.e. run and gun interviewing). Tascam offers the more robust build and easier Menu navigation and more direct-button controls. >Mark

Canon DSLR cameras currently own, one of the 80D, stereo, with which work performing music bands clips on the street (guitar and cajon) The fact is that, although I think the audio of them very good, especially the 80D that the mics are in front of the body, I decided to invest in a tape recorder to further improve my audio capture ... Well, where is the question: I bought so well spoken Zoom H1 and I opted for it instead of the DR-05 because of the microphones in XY and in this case was expecting a much better audio than recorded by so badly spoken mics internal of DSLR ... My surprise: Audio Zoom H1 was worse than the 80D ... lower and with a more muffled sound ... SET: Both mics were in automatic mode, the same distance as the subject (since the H1 was on camera shoe) ... The only difference is that I configured the H1 to better quality WAV and camera I was recording in. MP4 (not MOV) ... The Zoom H1 was wearing a Eneloop rechargeable battery. (I have heard that for use in burners, is not indicated rechargeable battery, is that right?) Could you help me in what may be happening friend? Does my Zoom H1 came defective? Thank you.

If you are looking for a recorder to recording in close proximities, such as a small or medium size room, this recorder works wonderfully: You get nice, clean sound. However, I wanted a new recorder for recording lectures in a large lecture hall on a college campus. I though the these new mics would pick up sound wonderfully; I was wrong. Even with the input level set to 100, the pick up was very weak. My other digital recorder did a much better job of picking up sound. I would recommend this only for recording in a small to medium size room.Sound level is extremely low. Obviously this can be amplified with your editing software but that's a bizarre requirement and should not be necessary. You will lose audio resolution by boosting the volume like 300% for literally every sound clip you ever make. This is a HUGE issue and I'm kicking myself for ignoring it.

@VirtualLeaf The voice recording quality of this device is simply amazing. But it would be unfair to compare it to the recordings obtained by a large diaphragm condenser mic with a quality mic preamp used in studio. It is always important to assess the tool for the job at hand. Marks. e-mail: askbh{at}bandh{dot}com
