THE RINGS OF POWER 1x6 "Udûn" REACTION & REVIEW! | Lord Of The Rings | Amazon Prime Video

Ойын-сауық

Nearly 21 years after the release of the first Lord of the Rings movie directed by Peter Jackson, we are invited back to Middle Earth with Amazon Prime Video's latest offering "The Rings of Power". This epic takes place thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings and follows the adventures of Galadriel and Elrond as they try to stop Sauron (yeah...we kinda know how that goes lol).

So hyped when I realized that. As soon as the volcano erupted, I was like, "Holy shit, that's Mount Doom... this is the creation of Mordor! OMG!" Great episode. Makes me care a lot more about the Southlands storyline in retrospect. I had been thinking they were in the Gondor area of the South, but now that I know that was Mordor before it was Mordor, it's so much cooler.

If you looked at the map from before, and previous episodes, and the 'symbol' that Galadriel thought was Sauron's 'brand', youd know that what they consider the 'Southlands' is actually Mordor. And that dormant volcano that they re-ignited by flash-vaporizing the water and exploding everything is Mt. Doom. Adar successfully executed that plan. What. An. Episode.

Sauron is a maia, a lesser angelic spirit (Morgoth was a Vala, a mighty angelic spirit). They don't have flesh originally and made vessels. By the Second Age, before he outpours to the One Ring, he should be able to change flesh or create himself a new body. The stunts and fight choreography were so good! Adar is most likely a new character, but a very interesting one for sure. Sauron is most likely with the Elves already, whispering into Celebrimbor's ear and giving him the idea for the forge and making the Rings of Power. I actually liked Galadriel in this episode. Earlier she was one dimensional and just sour all the time, now we know why. She is so affected by the darkness that even Adar notices it.... She has a reason for being sour, she's blinded by hate and vengance. Yes we've noticed it a little bit before, but in this episode we could actually feel it in her words when she talked to Adar. It was more believable. For me this worked, and made the character interesting, finally. I can see that GETJaby didn't see it this way, which just means that it clearly wasn't enough to make everyone happy about the character. But Im glad it helped me, because I like Galadriel from Lord of the Rings and I really needed her character to make sense in this show, as I actually did not like her character after the second episode. Now we're seing more depth to her, and it resembles her when she touched the one ring in Lotr. She always had an inner darkness that would want to rule and be feared as a beautiful and terrifying queen. The way she talks to Adar feels like this side of her. I think we'll see how she overcomes the darkness in this show, as she clearly has defeated most of her dakrness in Lotr, which is why she denies the ring from Frodo. She "passed the test" as she says herself. I mean, it makes sense... Galadriel always had darkness in her.... This show is fleshing it out for us, and Im sure we'll get to see more of it, and perhapse her character will make more sense. I think we just have to get used to Galadriel as not a "nice" character, but as a troublesome and powerhungry one.

Finally the show kicks off after the slow grind we had for the first 5 episodes. The very first episode i felt like yes this is the kinda pace i wanted or rather expected from the beginning, but the pay off was worth the wait. I really enjoyed this episode and the theory about Halbrand being Sauron is an interesting one something to look forward too. I also felt that Bronwyn saying to Halbrand that "are you the king we were promised?" was way too on the nose. Like too much spoon feeding the viewer.

An off the wall thought, but I wondered if Adar meant by " he split open" Sauron that Sauron has split his spirit (the unseen that he was researching) into multiple people who he is influencing. That would explain how he's able to influence the elves, pharazon and Halbrand all at the same time. Might be nonsense, but it's a thought.

Am I missing something? Mount Doom was first created by Morgoth long, long, long, before all the events depicted in the show. • @TomOnTheTube

Mount Doom has nothing to do with Morgoth and he certainly didn't create it. Sauron discovered it while looking for a home. One has to remember that Tolkien was first and foremost a professor of linguistics - Old Norse and Old English is particular. His stories were a way to play with the linguistics of mythology and all of his character names have meanings in old Norse or old English that correspond to an aspect of the personality or purpose and are often straight up borrowed from Norse Mythology. Gandalf in Norse for example means Wand elf. Why do I bother mentioning this? Well because I think the show runners are aware of this and should have applied this rule to any new characters they created… Halbrand is one of these new characters and in old Norse would mean either burning neck or in a more archaic form, “man of fire” Jus thought I’d point this out

I would be very surprised if Halbrand was Sauron, given that he'd have to do double duty both as Halbrand and deceiving Celembrimbor into ring-crafting: I very much doubt that the Elves would take advice from men in crafting rings of power. The only way I could see it working is if Halbrand starts to convince Pharazon to take up arms against Valinor, and then it's through this Numenor-Southland alliance that Halbrand corrupts Pharazon into the island's downfall, and THEN he starts working on the Elves with ring-crafting.

Like the thing; style is like a person who drank drugs, listened to rock, drank alcohol. Maybe he'll get better, marry Galadrielle, and Adar may be on the right track. :)

Adar is one of the original elves tainted by Morgoth, Sauron's master. He is one of the first ever Uruks(Orcs). He calls the Orcs his children because all other Orcs came from his kind. It actually makes sense that he did kill Sauron since Adar knew him as asecondary to a greater god. Also remember, Sauron cannot be killed at this point, but the form that he holds can be. He's one of the demi gods of this world. He's a shape changer and his spirit can reform a physical form, think Gandalf being dead and then coming back as the white wizard. Sauron binding himself to the one ring is what gives him a weakness that lets him be killed once and for all.

They’ve never had a king probably in their lifetimes. They have no cultural habits or etiquette that they need to bow or whatever. Having a king has been nothing more than a theoretical concept to the people of the Southlands. It’s like if you were to be transported to a royal court in some country. You will have literally no idea if you should bow or not bow or even how to ask a question. So I think the scene was more authentic because the people ended up just mimicking what the Queen was doing, which was simply hailing Halbrand.

Jaby really is ants at picnic huh? For coming off as overly critical in nearly all the media he reacts to, he can't be bothered with details like character names and yet is so engrossed in other details like "orc fu". Like... pick a struggle, it can't ALL be bad.

@@hoos3014 ...because "orc fu" is a legitimate criticism on the show's filmmaking process? And these are character names: I'm not calling out why Jaby doesn't know who Arondir's grandfather's best friend who fought Morgoth for the Similaris. I don't have to know the show's lore to at least correctly acknowledge a character's name, much less refer to the guy as the "Black Legolas". Plus for a guy whose theorizing who Sauron is, he's clearly interested in the lore as well. So miss me on this "he's interested in technical details." Let's call a wet blanket a wet blanket.

17:10 What if Halbrand himself is Sauron? Adar says he killed Sauron and Halbrand asks Adar if he remembers him. Then when Galadriel is about to kill Adar he comes and stops her, maybe because he himself wants to kill Adar? Maybe Galadriel has such a good connection with Halbrand because she has been searching for Sauron for such a long time?

i wonder if you felt the same if they butcher a lore you cared about like if Harry Potter turned into a gargoyle and breathed fire on Voldemort. But there's a plot twist Voldemort actually was the victim in all of this, because Harry Potter's parent actually abused him as a child and the true light shines through as Voldemort becomes the angel of light and the evil Harry Potter possessed by his evil parent is destroyed by the light! OOH THA ACTION WAS AMAZING BRUH!!
