Guys they've explained multiple times that their ancestors in the Southlands sided with Morgoth. That's why the elves are watching them, and why Waldreg said 'our ancestors lived' to convince the people to side with the orcs.

Regarding Galadriel’s belief that Elrond/Gil-Galad couldn’t distinguish her from the enemy - I interpreted the line to mean that Galadriel had been chasing the Enemy for so long that, whenever an Elf thought of Galadriel, it brought up thoughts of the Enemy, and vice-versa… and that’s painful for everyone involved.

The Stranger could possibly be one of the Blue wizards, they came to Middle-Earth before Gandalf and very little is known off the Blue Wizards. Also what we are watching is probably the last hundred odd years of the second age. The end of the 5th season of this show will be the end of the Second Age and the beginning of the Third Age. (LOTR takes place at the end of the Third Age).

I also believe that Tolkien played around with the idea that Gandalf visited Middle Earth in the second age in a different form and then returned to Valinor. The other strange thing is that we know the wizards showed up in Middle earth by ships arriving at the Grey Havens where they meet Cirdan, who guessed their true nature. They didn't arrive on a burning comet.

More like the last 200 as the downfall of Numenor takes place in 3019 and the second age ends around 3500. In any case I'm not sure how much we can rely on the canon timeline as Amazon seems to be doing whatever it wants in terms of the story. I do like the idea of the stranger being one of the Blue Wizards.

@@freebird6591 Gandalf, or Olorin as he's actually named, was sent to Middle-earth, along with other Maiar, in the 1st age just after the Valar discovered the elves to guard the elves from Melkor. He came as himself, in his spirit form as a Maia, and was hidden from the elves but he also sometimes manifested himself as an elf. Similar to how Orome manifests himself as a huntsman. When he comes in the 3rd Age he actually comes as a man with reduced powers - he's been incarnated into a real body - so comes by physical means. I don't think Tolkien said Gandalf came in the 2nd Age but he does, in one version of the wizard stories, say the Blue wizards came in the 2nd around the time the rings were forged. He doesn't say, as far as I know, how they got there.

The blue wizards are also associated with water. Radagast with Earth. While I'm not sure if this is confirmed, I think Saruman is associated with fire, and Gandalf the Grey is associated with air, though he bears the ring of fire which he uses against the balrog. After he is reincarnated as Gandalf the White, he basically takes Saruman's place as the position of fire, being associated with light, hope, and inspiration, while Saruman's fire was that of power and destruction. But yeah, if the blue wizards are associated with water, I feel like him healing in the water, forming ice, bending trees, all fits. The thing that doesn't fit is that as I understand it, the two blue wizards always traveled together and this guy is very much alone. Unless Nori is some secret wizard lol.

If the stranger isn't Gandalf the show runners seem to be trying awfully hard to make people think he is. I mean, him standing on the rock looking up at the sky while the song says "not all who wonder or wander are lost" when "not all who wander are lost" is a famous line that Gandalf says to Frodo and also I believe (but can't recall for sure) that Gandalf is sometimes referred to as the grey wanderer or grey pilgrim.

For the record on the wizards in Tolkien’s work, they aren’t just humans who know magic. They’re Maiar spirits (angels) called the Istari who were sent by the Valar (gods) to fight against Sauron. The only wizards are Gandalf, Saruman, Radagast the Brown and the two Blue Wizards. There are other human and elven magic users and sorcerers but wizard specifically refers to the Istari. The fact that they’re basically angels is why Gandalf was able to be sent back as Gandalf the White after his physical body died in the fight with the Balrog (who are also Maiar who fell to Morgoth).

The Mithril plot is the show combining two lore details into the one existing thing. There IS Mithril in the phial, the necklace Arwen has and Galadriel's rings but in the books Mithril were an established ore that elves used. It seems like the show is attempting to create physical methods of describing/portraying the "Dwindling of the Eldar" that occurs after Morgoth was defeated. The reasoning is that Melkor/Morgoth is originally one of the Valar and therefore part of the world, so the world ITSELF is naturally losing its beauty and decay. The Elven rings were given out by Sauron was a way of "Hey, if you make these rings you will be able to stay the decline of your immortality"-- which is why when the ONE ring is destroyed, the elves are forced to leave or face an eventual mortal life.

This show takes place in the Second Age. The first age was the making of the Silmarils and the War of Wrath against Morgoth. The second age is Sauron’s rise back to power leading to the making of the rings and the Last Alliance that was shown in the intro of Fellowship. Gandalf comes in the Third Age along with Saruman and Radagast. The Blue Wizards I think (I forgot and there are two different versions) came in the Second Age, so it could be one of them.

1:18 -> Most people who watch it, like it. People who keep voicing their discontent everywhere on social media everytime they get the chance to are mostly obsessive haters, often for very questionable reasons (although not always), and they are so vocal that people who check for reviews on social media may have the impression that dislike is the most common opinion. I mean, it's always the same with social media. When something is sufficiently controversial to divide opinion, the haters, even when a small minority, will always be the most vocal and the people you hear and see the most. On a live chat of 100 people, if you have 10 toxic haters and 90 people who're either positive or indifferent, guess who's going to write the most stuff.

The story about Mithril and the lost Silmaril being in a tree is not in the books at all. Elrond here mentions that it’s an apocryphal, a legend. I’m pretty sure even in this show as well this story is not true as well, and a lie told to Celebrimbor by Annatar(Sauron). Also, I don’t think Halbrand is Sauron. Just a really good red herring. Celebrimbor has been acting too sketchy and I do believe Sauron is deceiving him off screen. I’m pretty sure Halbrand will be The Witchking of Angmar. He’ll probably have a similar arc to Aragorn, but he will fall tragically to Sauron’s lies. The atrocity I think he committed was killing his brother who might have actually been the heir. He said he got the pouch “off a dead man.” I could be completely wrong but hey it’s fun to try and see who he will be.

A bit on the "Ages" of Tolkien's world. There was no 0th age, but before the first age were some more ages. The Years of the Valar, the Years of the Trees and the Years of the Lamps, First and before all things was the Ainulindalë, the music of creation. This was the birth of the gods (Valar) and creation of the tolkien universe. Then came the Years of the Valar, a sort of epoch consisting of only creation and birthing the world and its life as it would become. They created two lights, "Lamps" which gave light to the world. From then on, it was the Years of the Lamps. then the Years of the Trees (which we did see the trees in the first episode) The Lamps were destroyed by Melkor. The Trees were created to bring light back to the world after the lamps were destroyed. The Trees were later destroyed by Ungoliant, the giant spider which crawls out of the void (Shelob's Mother) at Morgoth's behest. The Silmarils were created out of their light, and those jewels sparked an era of war in the First Age (Silmarillion details all this) Technically, the Years of the Trees and Years of the Lamps are also part of the Years of the Valar. But they're often shown to be different enough. Both defined by where the light of the world comes from. Then the First Age began with the awakening of the first living "children" the Elves (Eldar) Among them were Galadriel and her family, The first age ended with the defeat of Morgoth and the War of Wrath. (Which destroyed much of the continent). The Years of the Trees and the First Age overlap. The first 1400 years or so of the First Age overlaps, as the Trees still exist at that time. Which is what Galadriel remembered in the beginning of the story of the show. Morgoth is eventually defeated and cast into the Void (Not killed. He cannot be killed. We'll come back to this.) The five years without the trees was known as "The Long Night" (George RR Martin couldn't help but steal way too much from Tolkien. Dude even stole his "RR") The "Years of the Sun" coincide with the First Age, as that is when the Sun and Moon are created, basked with light akin to the trees. The Second Age is MOST of this show, which ends with the Battle of the Last Alliance (Which you see in the beginning of Fellowship of the Ring) This age we know fairly little about. Which is why it's perfect for expanding. Third Age ends with the eventual defeat of Sauron and the end of the RIng (War of the Ring). The Third Age is the most iconic age, because The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings take place at this time. Fourth Age begins there and we only have glimpses of what happens there. There was once a follow-up story called "The New Shadow" which was quickly abandoned because Tolkien felt it was a bit too dark. A future where people forgot about the old evils, and children play "orc" because few people remember the threat of Orcs. Nearly all the elves are gone and the dwarves hadn't been heard from in a long time. All magic is fading and it's more akin to our real Medieval age. There's a cult the worships sauron and some plot attached to that, but the sequel was abandoned just a few pages in. Tolkien wrote about his thoughts but ultimately never wanted to continue. And then the end of all time comes with the return of Morgoth from the void, a final battle called the Dagor Dagorath , when heroes from the ancient times return, including all the gods and the legendary warriors Túrin Turambar and Elrond's father Eärendil the Mariner. And the world will be "mended" as declares Tom Bombadil... who... is a conversation for another day... lol

The show is during the Second Age, but it’s been truncated to make things fit. Like apparently there’s only one Durin alive at a time, so I heard The only thing in the movies that had Mithril that I know of was the shirt that Bilbo and Frodo had. The light Frodo got from Galadriel was just water that held light from their star Earendil, which was preserved in a silmaril, so I guess it’s kinda mithril adjacent

  • @fingolfin897

Well the Dwarves believe that Durin is reincarnated and so they only gave the name Durin to a Dwarf when it became obviously that this Dwarf was the Reincarnated King Durin. So to have two different Dwarves named Durin seems to be against their beliefs regarding that process.

  • @grayowl7581

King Durin said something about how when a new Dwarf King is crowned the voices of all the kings before him flow into him to share their wisdom and their mistakes so that seems to be how they justify the two Durins at once. I guess the implication in the show is that the reincarnation thing is more of a myth that comes to be widely accepted than a literal reality.

All elves are kinda assholes to the other races. Legolas in Fellowship disregards Gimli's grief, frequently mocks the Dwarves, and straight up ignores Merry and Pipin being captured. "Men are weak." "(Dwarves) hide in their mountains seeking riches, they care nothing of the fortunes of others."-Elrond. Galadriel turns the Fellowship away at first until Aragorn begs for passage. This episode really just didn’t help for me trying to enjoy the show. Going so far off lore it’s almost fan fiction imo. But one of the biggest things is HOW can Galadriel ever become who she is if she’s been chasing Sauron and fighting for so long. They’re building it up as if she’s gonna take him down. They fixed the issue of episode one where they said Sauron found finrod first as if he killed him when it was a wolf in the dungeons. But that is too far for some people. Yes this show is not related to the movies but now it’s not even close to the books WHERE WE KNOW WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN! Just frustrating. No Celeborn, butching of Mithril and sad attempt to show the dwindling of the Eldar

13:19 Where the heck is the girl behind Galadriel going? Galadriel's back is wide open here. 2 seconds later, there's a person with a sword, again behind Galadriel, standing and doing nothing instead of attacking her while she embarrasses guys she's supposed to be "instructing". 13:39 Stupid move here, since he actually hits her, not because he's good, but because this is a stupid way to block an attack. 13:43 What is this clown doing? Her back is turned, again, and he's just standing there. Ah yes, he's waiting for Galadriel to "throw" the guy his way so they can run into each other. Finally, the "fight" is over, and they promote this dude with zero skill and no prior experience leading anyone in a military engagement(remember, this guy was a failure as a sailor too). But, they have Galadriel to lead them, so of course, they will win. So, the story of the mithril is straight up BS. None of the Silmarils was ever in a tree. One was sent into the sky with Eärendil, one was tossed into a pit of lava, the last into the sea. This whole thing about "needing the mithril to restore the light" and save the elves is crap made up to create a rift between the Elves and Dwarves. Also plays into the shows whole, "only by combing the good and evil can anything be strong" line. 22:07 So, let me get this straight. These are the ships they're supposed to sail to Middle Earth, and anyone can just come onboard, in the middle of the night? They're supposed to sail the next day, and no sailors are on the boats getting ready for the voyage? 29:30 Don't be pessimistic? She's got a relative handful of untrained villagers, in an abandoned tower with no supplies, against an army of orcs. I'd say she's being realistic. Oh, but of course, she has Arondir, second only to Galadriel in the Elven badass category, so of course, they will win with determination and right on their side. This reaction lacks many good shots of the "high quality" of the "armor" most of the "soldiers" are wearing, but a lot of it looks like printed fabric. Truly, another great episode, well worth the obscene amount of money spent on it.

Lindon exists only as uninhabited ruins during the time of the films. The films also won't give you much insight into what is going on in this show because the second age is barely talked about and only the appendices or reading The Silmarillion will let you know what should be happening during this series or what these characters should be like, the show is doing a poor job of matching the actual lore especially the characterizations and events, though the locations are visually and geographically are pretty close to the books. Galadriel never went to Numenor, she was not a warrior but was the most powerful elf of the time through sorcery and her gifted mind, Pharazon was not a crafty statesman but was the greatest Numenorien warrior of the time, Miriel wasn't queen and instead was forced to marry Pharazon and he ruled as king, Elrond is fairly accurate but Gil-galad was the last great noble elf-king to ever live in Middle Earth not this smarmy douche, everything with the dwarves is great but the mithril storyline is all fan-fiction and the fading of the elves didn't work that way. Most of the original characters don't seem to serve much purpose and come off pretty cringe, maybe just Isildur's friends are fine. Speaking of which, everything about Elendil and Isildur is lame compared to who they should be, the greatest faithful human beings of the time, and though they may make him appear later so far it seems they are saying Anarion (Isildur's brother) is dead for no reason. Tolkien is practically my religion and this series feels like a desecration, but I'm still going to watch it because a little bit of it is Tolkien. Maybe long-term it will more closely resemble the work I love and I'll actually enjoy more of it.

I know this is essentially a fan fiction so people shouldn’t expect it to be a 1 to 1 version of details given in the Silmarillion and unfinished tales but my guesses: Adar is one of if not the first proto orc made by Morgoth (orcs were made by deforming and corrupting elves which is why Adar still appears elf like and why they call him father), the stranger is likely Gandalf (giving an explanation for his fondness for them) and Halbrand is Sauron in disguise (Sauron corrupts the Numenoreans after they capture him, he is a great warrior, easily manipulates people and an accomplished smith…all things shared with Halbrand currently). Given this show is meant to run 5 seasons though it would be strange for them to give us everything so early on so wouldn’t be surprised if all of these are red herrings
