Most likely Adar is an Avari Elf. Long story short, Tolkien's elves are broken up into three major tribes that were born on Middle Earth. Many went to Valinor in the early days but some remained. Of those that remained, some went part of the way to valinor and stopped and others just never agreed to go in the first place. The ones that never agreed to go are called Avari and they have the least connection to the "good guys" and some were corrupted by Morgoth (Sauron's boss) in the First Age. Adar's conversation with Arondir implies that he is very old. He asks if Arondir is from the mouth of the river, which is most likely the Sea of Helcar, where the elves were born. He might be one of the first generation elves, making him ancient.

@@DuBaas007 Could be, but Maglor would have detested Sauron as a servant of Morgoth. The sons of Feanor hated Morgoth, in fact Feanor gave him the name, which isn't flattering at all. The last we saw Maglor he was a tragic and lost figure filled with remorse for his actions. I don't see him as someone willing to work with Sauron or be a dad to orcs.

@@KingHador Silvan Elves inhabited Mirkwood and Lorien. The Green Elves (very similar to the Silvan Elves) inhabited Ossiriand. But If you are thinking that the river Adar is referring to is Ossiriand it is a possibility. If he's an Avari Elf in the service of Morgoth for thousands of years he might not be able to distinguish Silvan and Green Elves, in fact he might no know the lore of any of the elves that went west. I found it really interesting how he called Arondir "soldier" in elvish. At one time showing both a familiarity and how alien he is.

Adar specifically mentioned Beleriand, which would make the river the Sirion, which is nowhere near the Sea of Helcar. But there were plenty of silvan elves living in Beleriand. Along with Sindar, and (after awhile) Noldor. Ossiriand, Mirkwood, Lorien all had major populations of silvan elves; they were not restricted to a single area.

Tolkien said that Lotr isn't an allegory for WW2, he even said that it isn't an allegory for anything at all. His experiences in WW1 did definetly impact Lotr though.

He actually had a marked distaste for allegory use in general, in fact his exact words were: “I cordially dislike allegory in all its manifestations, and always have done so since I grew old and wary enough to detect its presence. I much prefer history - true or feigned- with its varied applicability to the thought and experience of readers. I think that many confuse applicability with allegory, but the one resides in the freedom of the reader, and the other in the purposed domination of the author.” It also surprises me how u guys don't notice Halbrand's way of manipulating people is still manipulation and not helping them, it's not motivated by selflessness and kindness, but quite the opposite, it's looks fair but feels foul I think Tolkien would say, because he might be "helping" out, but is in the interest of serving his own selfish interests.

My best guess is that Halbrand is Sauron. Halbrand says, "Identify what it is that your opponent most fears and give them a means of mastering it, so that you can master them." What Sauron does... "Identified what men and elves most feared and gave them rings of power as a means of mastering it, so that he could master them using the one ring."

When the Elves first awoke And were making their way to the Valar, Melchor intercepted some of the first Elves and while some Elves made it to The Valar the ones that were captured were tortured and twisted until they Became Orks. That is one of versions of origin. Tolkien actually wrote three origins, and would later say they were mix including lesser maia called Boldogs and even animals. There is a later essay in the HoME series.

That’s absolutely not Sauron. He’s a fallen elf, one of those who gave rise to the Orc, as Saruman mentioned in Fellowship. We have already seen Sauron though. He’s busy whispering deceit in Numenor…

Enjoyed this episode WAY more than some of the previous ones! Probably because they had meaty conversations moving the story and cut the Harfoot storyline and focused on the rest.Agree with Jaby about seeing Adar(likely Sauron, but still not confirmed), and his talk with Arondir was great insight into how good and evil thinks. I do think Bilbo, Thorin & crew do talk to the Orc king (leader?) in the Hobbit, but this was more emotional connect

This show is coming together very nicely now. I’m very impressed, this ep was superb!

As has been commented before, the first orcs were corrupted and turned elves. So there had to have been female orcs in this generation. In the Third Age(or was it Fourth?), Saruman "created" the orc-like Uruk Hai on Sauron's command. So there weren't likely to be female Uruk Hai.

Well, they seem to have stopped introducing new threads and started the series proper. Which pleases me. What also pleases me is that Galadriel seems to be softening just a tiny bit, and she and Miriel are starting to see eye to eye. Now I'm still wondering: Who is Halbrand? I like the guy and hope he is a good guy. "The little orc who turned away". Hey, you are talking about me! I am an orc seeking redemption. And the legendarium contains no mention of Galardriel going to Numenor. But then, it doesn't say she didn't, either. We know almost nothing of what she did during the Second Age.

Fall or Drowning of Númenor, was the utter destruction of the island of Númenor, a divine punishment by Eru Ilúvatar to the Númenóreans for breaking the Ban of the Valar.

I do remember in the Hobbit trilogy, Battle of the Five Armies, Gandalf and Lady Galadriel did talk to Sauron and Azog (his General) so this is another occasion where the Good and Bad guys talked

That isn't Sauron I don't think. I still think Sauron has yet to be truly revealed. Sauron will probably show up once the forge is finished he will be introduced by Celebrimbor to Elrond and Gil Galad as Anatar. I think Adar could literally be father to Orcs, the first Elf that Morgoth experimented on to create the Orcs. Sauron would not give two shits if an orc died.

There's one line from this Father that makes we wonder. He said "I'm not a god. Not yet". He also talked about how Sauron was gone, but will return. My theory is that Sauron still hasn't return to the material world, and this Father plans to act as a vessel for his master. They need the evil not-sword that Theo has. Maybe this will lead to Theo becoming the vessel for Sauron instead of Adar. Alternatively Sauron never intended to use Adar, but lied get his cooperation (if Sauron still doesn't have a material form, then maybe he can't use his powers to influence this world)

Good reaction, Jaby is correct, The Orcs are past elves in these series, they will explore later in this.

Ok, as someone who has red the Silmarillion - and therefore knows what's going to happen - I can say this: This episode is the one that got me hooked to the show. The first three episodes were totally needed, because of the huge number of roles. But now, the real story seemed to start. An I got chills. I dont care at all what all the KZread critics and wonnabe Tolkien experts are complaining about. The show is awesum!

@ houseofaction I've red most of Tolkien's books. And I've red some of the stuff that those "wannabe Tolkienados" told about this show. I can not agree with most 9f their complaints. And I think that much of the bashing could be grounded in a anti-woke bias. And I guess that special kind of bias is a part of the current culture war, that's happening in the US. I am in Europe. And most people over here - I have talked to - are either not interested at all (because they don't like the gerne anyway) or are all in for the show. ... even the ones, who are familiar with Tolkien's works.

@ Anoldgod Good points. But I am kinda use to all of this changes, by getting shocked by all of those changes you've mentioned, when I saw the Peter Jackson movies, for the first time. And the things Jackson changed are quite many. You'll never get a one on one translation from book to movie. They are all just interpretations of the source material. All I can say is that I got a special place in my heart for Tolkien's works. And, btw: His big books are about the first age and the end of the third age. He kinda wrote a road map for the main story ofsecond age - what the show is about - but there s actually not a book about the second age. Sure, you might point out the Akallabeth. But that's just the second to last chapter of the Silmarillion. So, I really don't get what all the fuzz is about.

The actor playing Adar is Joseph Mawle he was uncle Benjen in Game of Thrones. Sorry, I am going to go on record and say this guy is not Sauron as he is yet to be revealed.

THIS FEELS LIKE LORD OF THE RINGS TO ME NOW!!! The scenes of Elrond and Durin being the best of friends and the scene of all the people of Numenor volunteering for the fight feel right out of the movies and the books.

Tolkien served in WWI. But the Lord of the Rings started as 'write another Hobbit Adventure' and gradually turned into what it became.

I don't think Adar is Sauron more likely one of his leutenants. I think it's more likely Sauron is in the background as Annatar the lord of gifts with the crafting elves, and later in Numenor.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa ,whoa Achara. You're automatically assuming Adar is Sauron? I'm not sure sure...

Tolkien's Lord of the Rings was not only inspired by WW1 but also from roman catholicism, fairy tales and celtic & Norse mythology. He was a devout Catholic Christian. Also I doubt Adar is Sauron in disguise but rather it's Halbrand. Halbrand is not in the actual Tolkein lore but rather he's new to the series. Halbrand has the very same characteristics of Sauron (Sauron's alias was Anatar in the books and he tricked the elves into making those rings with manipulative words, similar to how Halbrand is like in the show. Since the show producers might not want to disclose Sauron's disguise as the namesake (Anatar) for those who have read the books, he might be Halbrand instead.

It's not a secret who Suaron appears as however I won't spoil it for the people avoiding it. In the writings the audience knows but the characters do not and that's the suspense. We will see what the shows does with it.

Adar probably isn't Sauron. He's a dark elf. Sauron probably won't be revealed until the end of this season or the beginning of season 2.

He might not be Sauron but they for sure are trying to drop hints that might make the audience think that he is Sauron. Orcs say that he is the "father" so would Sauron allow someone under him be called father by the orcs? Furthermore he says that he isnt a god...yet (would Sauron allow elfs serve under him who want someday to be gods themselves?). Also just because Sauron was shown in armor doesnt mean that he is always inside that armor. Isnt one of Saurons strengths deceit, eloquence of speech and persuasion. Didnt Sauron basically get the one rings forged by lying to all. He for sure didnt go around walking in that armor of his. Halbrand likes to forge but that could also be a case of misdirection. Also would a human be able to convince elves to forge the rings of power?

Events in Numenor take place in the past, where the Numenoreans will begin to worship Sauron and build temples in his honor. And the timeline with Celebrimbor is present. There Sauron will appear in the form of an elf and will advise in the creation of the rings.

EVERYONE IS SAURON ... we haven't seen him yet - this show is SO melodramatic this is far too not dramatic to be Sauron

Halbrand is Sauron, IMO. He has begun the destruction of Numeror in his role as a "prisoner" who will become the counselor of the King. Since they don't have rights for Silmarillion, they are adapting things as fanfiction and on reverse, I guess. He'll take care of Numeror first and then appear to Celembribor as Annatar (named unable to be used) while Elendil and the survivors make Gondor. Like Celembribor should be long dead and the rings forged before Elendil's even born, anyway. It would be odd to fight Sauron twice, and for this Numeror to help that. It worked originally because it was ages apart since then. The timeline is already changed: in the official chronology, he's already got the one ring when he's taken into Numeror as a prisoner and there eventually he gets the ear of Ar-Pharazôn that leads to the destruction of Numeror.

The fact they don't realise that Halbrand is Sauron and not Adar shows you how they don't pay attention at all.

Those of us familiar with the lore should see where this is going. SPOILER ALERT: Adar is actually Sauron. The Numenorean expeditionary force "captures" him when they invade the southlands. (Sauron really let's himself be captured.) Sauron is taken back to Numenor, where he starts working his deceit in the mind of Pharazon and the fate of Numenor is set. Edit: when he's "captured" Sauron will take on his handsome elven form of Annatar.

While I find this most likely given the clues and hints, it also presents a problem. They have condensed the timeline so much Sauron needs to be in multiple places at the same time. Cuz Sauron first needs to come to the elves, and teach Celembrimbor how to craft the rings. Then craft his own in Mordor. After that should be the war against the elves (including the fall of eregion). Only after that did Sauron come to Numenor and start messing with them.

@@ChrisRowe That is the most likely way the story will go. He will also "help" his people (humans) in The Southlands, become the king Galadriel wants him to be, unite them, gain their trust while also maybe increase their hate of elves, only to reveal himself at the end.

This show is money well spent, each and every scene is beautiful

Awful dialogue in Meereen..ops, sorry.. Numernor. To the contrary..awsome acting from the orcs and Kasadûm characters including Elrond. Theo plays a pretty cool part.

Two things I couldn't swallow 1. Galadriel throws 4 or 5 men into the cell 2. Orcs didn't shoot arrow when light comes out. Such a lazy writing.

Tolkien did NOT use the World Wars as an analogue or direct inspiration and he made great moves to ensure that was the case. The central theme is Power/Authority and how it corrupts. If you want to take real-world inspiration than that would be Totalitarianism, as Tolkien saw Fascist governments overthrow their age-old kingdoms and crowns for puppet governments that act solely to subdue their population. Granted this is not intentional symbolism, but assertions that he knew the audience might automatically take given his personal life.

if it's "assertions that he knew the audience might automatically take" and he knew this then it's intentional. That's what intent is. As for Power and authority being at the core, that's precisely what started each war so these aren't separate things.

Interesting show…. I like it, but Galadriel is way to Arrogant to like or root for…

I would love for them to give Sauron an actual character, personality, and a point of view other than domination and covering the world with darkness. All Tolkien ever said about his motivation is that he loved order and structure and sided with Melkor because he thought he had the power to achieve it.

You talk about order and structure when his mission is to turn the southlands into a hellish wasteland and cover the entire earth in darkness. You got the wrong show buddy. The showrunners should stick to Tolkien otherwise make your own show.

@@akashicrecords9672 Oh, I don't think Adar is Sauron. But I would like for Sauron to be more than a plot device as he mostly was in Tolkien's work. Also, for someone who is this outraged Tolkien purist you sure sound unfamiliar with the source material. Tolkien wrote that Sauron believed in order. He also depicted him destroying the land, creating orcs, etc. So if you have a problem with that, blame the actual author.

This episode was better than those which came before because.. they completely omitted the Harfoots and their lame story.

Yeah, this isn't a "prequel," neverminding what the hypemeisters would want you to believe. It's a mixture of Botched Lore and Deep Snore. Y'all's confusion about storylines and character motivation is natural, cos the writing is abysmal.

Sauron is around ten feet tall, from what we’ve seen, so Arda is not Sauron. But he spoke as if he was. Very confusing.

At this stage of his existence, Sauron can take many forms. He was a master shapeshifter and has even taken beast forms like a werewolf and vampire.

some of the worst takes I've heard. You could learn what Galadriel is actually like by reading Tolkien's books he spent his life writing. Like saying "oh I loved Jesus in Passion of the Christ", I need a TV show to learn more about them no other way.

I tried to give this show a chance but it's just boring as shit. There's a dozen things wrong with it. A 4/10. Shameful

Soooooo unarmed Galadriel tosses 4 fully armed Numenor guards (Which are supposed to be the greatest human warriors in existence) like they were school kids, and the main guy just lets her leave to go murder his leader or whatever the fuck she wants because another prisoner told him where she was going??????? I love EVERYTHING Lord of the Rings but this is just trash.... There is at least 10 different major issues in just this 1 episode... This was the final straw for me. I'm done with this show

Woke normies really seem to love it so far. You can really tell how out of touch with reality they are even with their own sanity if they don't even bother to question the professionalism in the writing of these crap shows they watch. They don't think was this line well written, does what the characters say and do make any sense, was this a good well thought out plot? None they just go along with it. It's like those idiots who defended the last couple ep of GoT even the whole last season when everyone else who still had a functioning braincell saw how bad and contrived the script and narrative had become. The woman in this video was literally cheering for the guy leaving his other friend behind because he got scared. At least call your friend that you're leaving without him you dimwit. For gods sake these reactors man. Just all for the views and hits I guess😂🤦‍♂️
