Well Adar hasnt been confirmed as Sauron. Also, Sauron was never a flaming eye. He had a physical form, we were never told what form he took whilst away from the Ring. But the book never discribes him as an eye breathed in flame. That was a Peter Jackson call.

OATH is a very powerful magic in tolkien's writing. Thats why elrond cant confirm that mithril exist, by saying the magic word " YES " because if he says it he will be curse. If you tamper with it, bind yourself with it, the effect is very deep and powerful. Look what happened to faenor and his children.

Elendil is upset with his son Isildur because Isildur is selfish. Elendil gives him a speech this episode saying that other people in Numenor are working to make Numenor better. But Isildur's actions are only to help himself. We know this as the show has explained it and shown it in the previous episodes. Elendil got Isildur a respected and sought after position that he didn't earn. But because he didn't want to go in the navy and only wanted to go west, he intentionally failed which got him and his friends kicked off. Now Isildur doesn't want to go west anymore but instead sail to Middle Earth. He then goes to his father to ask him to give him another position. This time it's for the expedition. His father chastises him because he once again is only thinking of himself. As doing so would put his father in a terrible position, by once again giving his son special treatment for something he didn't have qualifications for or earn. This was called out by his friend that made lieutenant, who conversely has worked hard to earn his way up. But Isildur wanted the easy route because he cares about only doing stuff that benefits himself. This was also shown as Isildur only came to apologize because he wanted something from his friend. Isildur wanted his friend to use his new authority to just give him a position on the voyage to Middle Earth. Elendil isn't being an overbearing or mean father. He's just calling Isildur out on his crap.

Galadriel is Sauron 😂😂😂😂

I think Elendil is concerned that Isildur is out for glory, rather than wanting to do the right thing. Maybe he's hoping Isildur starting out as a horse-sweep will teach him some humility. Plus, not showing favoritism.

"Many might assume, you used me" Yeah, he's Sauron. That was a rather excellent looking sword he crafted.

Sauron was supposed to be sent to Valinor for judgement after the defeat of Morgoth, but he fled. And where did he and Galadriel meet? Between Middle-Earth and Valinor. Throw in the fact he's obviously a master craftsman and I'm pretty much convinced that it's him at this point.

Gil Galad probably knows the dwarves have discovered mithril, he's trying to get access to it, to do that he needs Elrond's connection to Durin.

Isildur has been unreliable for some time now, very wishy washy, so it’s no wonder Elendil doesn’t think him worthy or more importantly, trustworthy for the mission. Isildur lacks conviction.

They are hinting Sauron as multiple characters, the "outsider/wizard", Halbrand, Evil Elf and that strange priest guy.

@@zaiminnosi2905: Well, technically Amazon doesn't have the rights to _The Silmarillion_ at all, only to _The Hobbit_ and _Lord of the Rings_ (and its appendices). I'm sure they've squeezed in some stuff from various other works of his anyway, as long as it's not something they overtly don't have the right to. But yes, we may see the revelation soon, but we may also not; it's not even certain they'll start forging the rings this season.

“Not all who wonder or wander are lost.” 😢 The song Poppy sings in the beginning is not only beautifully sung, but the long shots of some of the most breathtaking backgrounds ever made me actually tear up. Like I was a kid going on this epic adventure with them. To all the people who have said that this show doesn’t feel like Tolkien’s world come to life this scene should prove otherwise.

I'm having a hard time figuring out Halbrand's motifs. He's unreasonably arrogant and dissident. Many compares him with Aragorn, but at least with Aragorn we knew where he stands. He didn't want the power because he considered himself invalorous, but he was always ready to help others. This guy is backing off of every chance for no reason. I hope they dive a lil bit deeper on his past or motivations. Btw, I love this show. Now I feel more involved than the first few episodes.

They established Galadriel's character as an impulsive and dogged person in the first few episodes, now it's getting clear moving forward. They're doing the same thing with Halbrand here. I wish they explain it more eventually.

This series has taken massive liberties with the source material, and barely resembles anything in the Silmarillion or the appendices in the Lord of the Rings, but thus far Halbrand's behaviour is actually one of the only bits that matches the books. It's just that in the books he's not ever called Halbrand, nor does he arrive in Numenor by shipwreck. But it's clear the creators of the show hope to deceive the audience the way Sauron deceives the Numenoreans and the elves. Sauron at this time is a master manipulator who appears in fair guise and proves himself a great smith and counselor and he gradually starts to become Pharazon's most trusted advisor.

@@ChrisRowe Yes, now it make more sense. I don't consider myself super expert on the source materials. But I have read most of the books, and tbh I recently finished Silmarillion. Yeah, it matches all the descriptions. The timing and stuff. Maybe they justified Sauron's presence on Numenor during the Valar's prophecy by putting Halbrand there earlier. I actually have no complaints about taking a different route from the books. But sometimes it feels some of expository stuff taking so much times. I'm not going full judgmental on this show yet, but I hope they manage to accelerate some stuff like this one which you nicely explained. And btw, did you hear that beautiful "scottish flute" at the beginnin? Bear McCreary is one of my fav musicians and I fell in love with his works from "Outlander".

The show definitely drags at times but I think the setup is necessary. Elrond and Durin's relationship is my favorite and I feel like it is being setup to end in a heart break. Same with Arondir and Bronwyn. I think as the show goes on and plot lines start connecting it will be more interesting. Although I find it interesting so far anyways. I hope some of these characters cross paths at some point.

With the dark theme in terms of visuals and story we get from HOtD, this is a reliever. Yeah some things doesn't make sense but there are a lot of things to look out for. Elrond and Durin's friendship. How the friendship between elves and dwarves turned sour and I think we are getting there. The fighting elf. Insights into Adar. Isildur events and how he became the King. Little about the wizard and harfoots. HOtD is just politics and leaves you thinking What else? Dragons? Nah.

Idk I love the show

The change to the story is so dumb. Elves will diminish without mithril or the light contained within? Many elves never basked in the the light of Aman and lived in Middle Earth exclusively. They did fine. One of the defining feature of the Elves was their ability to chose when to depart, usually after loss, trauma, sadness. That also made the choice to stay despite all the troubles of Middle Earth more remarkable, heroic even. This series shits on profound structures and narratives of Tolkien's world, robs them of meaning and purpose. The first four episodes were just somewhat boring. The fifth one is a travesty.

Nahhh the beacons calling for aid was actually a cool scene though.

Another episode , and I liked it a lot . Durin is my favourite pair with his wife Disa and Elrond . Perfect Trio . Nori and Meteor Man relationship has a building arc . Arondir stands like a brave knight to Bronwyn and her son . Shadows are thickening in the Southlands . In Numenor the task to Middle Earth stands on the edge cause Halbrand doesn't want to go back to his own nightmare . But wants a peacefull life in the Isle kingdom . The story gets better and better . For me , for a fan fiction show inspired by Tolkien , has a little slow pacing , but has very good potentions . , my best ist Elendil , my man gives a performance !! Bear Mc Greary's music 5 episodes now the top one possitive thing. Scriptwriting has a lot weaknesses. Entertaining episode .

After a beautiful song to kick things off (seriously, great work on that song), this was the worst episode so far. 6+ hours in and we're still in "set up" mode, nothing has actually happened, and Galadriel Mary Sue Karen gets worse every episode. She's SO offensive as a character it almost seems like deliberate sabotage to make viewers hate the show and cause the shut down of Amazon Studios for a tax write off, which is probably what will happen. Yesterday they deleted 5000 1-star reviews... making the score 4.1 stars for a few hours, only to reinstate the reviews and drop it back to 3.3 (probably because they realize if you trash the fan reviews they will never trust you again). As a writer I can say this is a CLINIC in how not to write a show. It literally pushes plot points with music when the actors can't lift the weight of the scene, the script is written by people who have never written fantasy and it shows, and the entire story is tell-don't-show, where everything interesting happens off-screen (Morgoth? The war? Sauron? the village destoryed? the orcs capturing all the elves? the mine collapse and rescue?) At the end of the day I'm asking myself where the money went. Not to writing, casting, dialogue, story, or action scenes that's for sure.

Adar isn't Sauron. Hallbrand may be Sauron in disguise or mysterious evil looking beautiful elf they showed earlier in the episode. But Adar is not Sauron.

This show is quite boring but beautiful. They are some fun moments here and there. I am waiting for Sauron to turn Middle Earth to darkness at this point. It would be way more interesting to whatever is going on now. When in doubt, root for the bad guy.

This series was made for those who like big visuals and nothing more, this is the rise of Skywalker of LOTR universe. Hope they lose ton of money for disrespecting Tolkien and his work. There is creative passion for this show but too many incompetent people behind the script. Should have spent more money on the script instead of visuals and stupid dialogues.

This show is so underwhelming Nowhere as bad as people are claiming but definitely just an above average show I dont know whats happening to Hollywood? Very few good movies and shows are coming from Hollywood Fake wokeness is ruining them

😊 I've got the ultimate quick fix for Jeff Bezos to resolve all issues for the rings of power - Cancel all the remaining seasons, fire everyone involved with it to date , fly off to New Zealand in your private Jet and literally beg of Peter Jackson to completely redo this gross violation of J.R.Tolkien's work. Maybe start in the first age with Morgoth as the original baddie or better still the Beren and Luthien story arc with the silmaril that they stole from Morgoth. Basically allow for the horror that was the ROP to fade away from people's memory with the OG filmmaker of Tolkien's work ! 🤗

Agreed. I actually stopped watching at episode 2 and I started consuming the content reactions and reviews because they provide more entertainment value and keep me in the know.

This show is boring and everything looks poorly done but the cgi.

I honestly view this adaptation as a Wattpad fanfic of LOTR and consume only the content reviews and reactions for purely entertainment purposes and to keep me in the know. I did watch the first two episodes, but it failed on so may levels to hook me that the content reactions were my go to.

Its gonna be 1 season only... this Show is doomed
