THE RINGS OF POWER 1x2 "Adrift" REACTION & REVIEW! | The Lord of The Rings | Amazon Prime Video

Ойын-сауық

Nearly 21 years after the release of the first Lord of the Rings movie directed by Peter Jackson, we are invited back to Middle Earth with Amazon Prime Video's latest offering "The Rings of Power". This epic takes place thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings and follows the adventures of Galadriel and Elrond as they try to stop Sauron (yeah...we kinda know how that goes lol).
This second episode definitely brought more action (and more characters!) How are you guys feeling about the show so far? Was it a strong start?

I got serious chills when they showed Kazad-Dum and Moria. It looks as amazing as the movies. And the thunderous music by the great Bear McReary just make you want to want to grab a big ass war hammer! Prince Durin is already my favorite character of the show. I felt his pain when he talked about how hurt he was that Elrond hadn’t kept in touch for 20 years. I’d be pissed too. But I love that his amazing wife helped him to forgive him. Also I wish I had a beard as awesome as his.

Me too, I try to not let the internet sway my opinion before I've actually watched the thing in question. We all have different tastes. That said, I enjoyed episode 2 so damn much. The 1'st episode was slow and boring but I understand the world building. And Galadriel...I'm not really sold on the actress yet. She seems so cold and lacks facial expressions, i.e. one-dimensional.

I caught that bit about the baby eagle with broken wing too, made me wonder if that will come up again. there is a lot to like about the series so far but the way they wrote and cast the hobbits really made this special - down to the score. They really captured the magic, somehow, I remember feeling when I first read the books as a child. I was skeptical of this series and am glad I was proven wrong.

sorry; Technically these aren't hobbits, hobbits did "evolve" from these beings, but they aren't hobbits for a long time yet. These Harfoots are even ancestors to Smeagol and his kin, who were ancestors to the Hobbits. That aside, they have indeed done a very good job with the writing and casting for the Harfoots.

28:06 So the show is called the Rings of Power, so one would assume it is about the 20 magical rings made, 3 For the elves, 7 for the dwarves, nine for the Men (and then the master ring, the one to rule them all). we also know what happens to those 9 humans and their rings, they become the ringwraiths, so somewhere we are going to have 9 people who gets powerful rings and then gets twisted into those wraiths. @@yw1971 Thank you for pointing that out, but I don't recall when it was ever stated that A Morgul-blade had to be ONLY a weapon of the Witch-King nor whether or not other kinds OR VERSIONS OF IT EXISTED. And this is THE REAL ISSUE that this series will face & IS FACING. Some will be more concerned about TRYING TO STICK TO THE LORE OF THE BOOKS, while ignoring the Fact Tolkien was PRECISE IN SOME AREAS, while being completely imprecise IN OTHERS. Never mind that the weapons of Morgoth and his Forces of the 1st-Age never get/got detailed like that, thus another reason why Star Wars with it's COUNTLESS TECHNICAL MANUALS, ranging from weapons, to ships, to intricate details of planets, far outpaces Lord of the Rings as a whole in regards to showing just how vast its storyverse is. And giving PRECISE INFORMATION, for the most part, ON WHO DID WHAT WHEN & HOW & WHY, and WHO CREATED WHAT WHEN & HOW & WHY, so? Simply because the Rings of Power weren't created yet, doesn't means Weapons of Dark-Power DON'T ALREADY EXIST. Your point, which I am glad you made, is exactly why it wasn't until Peter Jackson's movies that I finally had any real love for Lord of the Rings & Tolkien's-works, which is interesting within itself, because I read all of his books and it was exactly what you pointed out just now; the Vague-ambiguity in specific-areas, that ultimately left me unimpressed by what Tolkien had wrote. Whether it is Tom Bombadil, where Tolkien never explains who-&-what HE IS, nor WHY-&-HOW he existed PRIOR TO Eru Iluvatar, The GOD, of the entire storyverse. Deciding to create everything through song with the rest of His Creations, but then Tom Bombadil, the Nameless Things, Ungoliant!? None of these...? "Creatures". Come from Eru and Tolkien never explains how, why-&-where They came from. It's meant to create mystery, but for me it created annoyance, because it means They exist FOR SHOCK VALUE, as far as I'm concerned. So when you open that door some will see it for what it is & simply embrace it as a JJ Abrams MYSTERY-BOX that will never be solved-opened-&-answered, while others will understand that the creation of these "characters". Is meant to spice things up & at no point will the OG-Creator ever explain them BECAUSE THAT WAS ALL THEY WERE EVER MEANT TO BE. This then OPENS THE DOOR to speculation-interpretation of something that was always simply meant TO CREATE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THE WORK ITSELF. But never meant to EVER be EXPLAINED, at least, unless or until...? You sell the Rights to your work... to someone else....

@arslan TRUE & thank you for the reply. I am typing AHEAD OF MYSELF, because I suspect that by the time this show gets up in seasons this Boy will be shown to be Khamul & we will see through time-jumps & such how he rose to power & was eventually given one of The-9 Rings of Men. But I think this show will end up showing Us that, because of what happened here all the way back in what will be Season-1 by that time. That unlike some others who took the 9-Rings, he will CHOOSE TO TAKE HIS RING ON PURPOSE, fully-knowing what will happen to him. But We will see that HE DOES THAT/DID THAT, because He'd gotten corrupted all the way back in this episode of Season-1. I gotta be more careful about typing ahead OF WHAT I THINK will end up happening, thank you for reminding me of that.

I'm not for woke-ism but this show was actually entertaining, and kept me wanting for more episodes.. I haven't read the books but only watched the movies so far, so I don't notice any difference. It was magestic in it's cinematography. Did find the music for the elf and human woman a bit too much/cheesy (too many repeats) but it's tolerable. Thry should have stuck to the actual story of the books even if they changed up the representation of the characters. That way it would have appeased hard-core LOTR fans a bit. And I loved the little banter between the dwarf prince and Elrond, reminded me so much of Gimli and Legolas.

I take no issue in having a badass female elf warrior whatsoever and welcome it but they could have written a new character for that role instead of changing the lore completely. When you do an adaptation it's best to respect the source material as much as possible especially with something like LOTR.

  • @flavionussbaum9653

well Tolkien DID write that Galadriel fought against Melkor in Angband and helped to protect the Realm vs Sauron but he didnt write how. Soo its interpretation. (Sil and The Appendices) And she DID crossed the Helcaraxe with other Elves, and fir sure this was not an easy journey through ice...also there: she like other elves HAD to protect themselves with swords ect so also here; to show Galadriel as a warrior is a logical interpretation of Tolkiens writings bc he left off lots of the HOW stuff, described more chronicle wise, so i'm ok with this adaption bc it builds on the lore but creates an own storyline out of it. likely a good way to adapt a source for a tv studio like amazon.

"if it isn't its a immediate thumbs down" 1) "EXACTLY better then they expect" doesn't even make sense. If they expect it to be better, how could that expectation be exact? 2) I've seen #1-2, and so far to me they are terrible purely on a basis of standards I would hold for writing and direction in general. They are trying to use diversity and female empowerment as cookie cutter magic cure alls for inexperience in the directors and screenwriters (and actors) and it shows in profound ways. Oh and did I mention that they cheaped out on big name actors? For $1 billion I would expect them to at least match the effort Netflix put in for season 1 of Westworld. NF snagged Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright and James Marsden - plus notable TV acting names like Jimmi Simpson. By comparison the most notable name on the entire cast in Lenny f**kin Henry - who isn't even known for acting chops in the first place. The whole thing makes me think that Amazon tried their best to snag big names and all of their choices turned them down after reading the scripts (which so far range from dull, to cringe inducing). I thought much the same about Wheel of Time - the entire thing feels like amateur hour with a mountain of CG VFX to plaster over the many cracks. Someone recently commented that even House of the Dragon had more convincing armor on top of that - soooo the RoP props are cheap too, or at least made by inexperienced hands.

Bro it’s a TV show that’s going to have multiple seasons, so it’s going to be a slow burn. How is your name ‘winter is coming’ and you can’t even appreciate that?
