It doesn't surprise me at all. They have sacrificed quantity over quality (probably out of greed). Now they are seeking to get back to their beginnings. That can allow more quality, creativity, and Kevin Feige having more time to supervise projects. I also feel both Bob Iger and Kevin Feige should address the issue of succession, as, at some point, someone else will have to take over for them. As leaders, they should try to find people who are as talented as they are, or even more....
Oh wow they layoffs? I'm (not really) shocked!
Marvel was basically a Disney+ telemovie...
I am not sure how a company of Marvel's scale laying off 15 people is a news story...Big fan of John but sheesh must be a slow news day.
15 people? That doesn't seem like a layoff to me. Sounds Ike performance issues disguised as a layoff.
I feel sorry for the 15 people but it has to be expected.
1:50 and we still didn't get Blade!
No worries those layoffs can go to universal or warner Brothers and stick it up to Disney
Let me just say that I was wrong and I apologize to the people that said after endgame the MCU will go down hill. Because I use to look at people like crazy when they used to say that

Well, you weren't wrong either. People were saying that because Iron Man and Captain América were gone. And looking back, that is the least of their problems.
Shang-Chi was a big hit? I liked it well enough ... but their budget appears to have been $200 million with a box office of $432 million ... marketing was probably $200 million. It profited most likely but not what I would say did great by Marvel standards especially.

@@AdamSummers-tj2mm Shang-Chi didn't have much marketing compared to other MCU movies. Also the movie was released when people were still hesitant to go to theaters - this was before Venom 2 and No Way Home brought people back in droves. So this movie performing during that time, when it's about a character the general public doesn't really know, and it performing well on Disney+ makes it a success. Shang-Chi made more than Dune.

@@matthewk4912 Actually false. Dune 2's breakeven is about $475 mil and they are well past that at nearly $700 mil. While Shang Chi breakeven is about $350 mill and they made about $425 mil. Let us do the math. $700-475= $225 mill. $425 - 350 = $75 mil. Seems like Dune 2 is more more in the black. Plus there is a Dune 2 but not a Shang Chi 2 which is even more telling. Then doing well on Disney streaming means that people saw it literally for free meaning no return on the film which is pointless adding on the fact that Marvel didn't even want to make it a lame streaming series either. Failed project like the Eternals.

There is no way in hell Shang Chi got a $200m marketing campaign, that’s pretty ludicrous if you just look at ad buys in major media markets for Q2-Q3 2021
@chazzerous

@@raymondsmith6870i wouldn’t call Shang Chi a failure if it ended up marginally in the black. In fact I think Marvel needs to do more films in the same vein as Shang Chi - a solid effort that is well liked that costs $150m or less and a tiny marketing budget.

@@chazzerous You mean being in the top 5 of the lowest grossing MCU films ever. Where is Shang Chi 2 and why hasn't the character carried over to other films. Just asking. Sounds like Marvel gave up on that character completely.
I am going to guess they were all the 15 writers connected to The Marvels movie.

Same. Plus ppl spent years demonizing the first ppl who saw marvel going downhill. They've made it pretty satisfying to watch them learn they were clearly wrong for 2 years straight.
I like how people are outrage about this is not good but a necessary evil. Fans are where did not their content because it was not good because they are hiring to many bad writers and when the writers and staff do get fired people are outraged.
John needs to stop saying that "we can all agree" in regards to the quality supposedly dropping. It's totally valid to hold that opinion, but it's pretty toxic to speak for everyone.

Toxic is a pretty hyperbolic word to use for what is likely just a turn of phrase. Nothing serious is at stake here, just a man opining on the state of a movie studio, and I'm sure John doesn't literally think he speaks for everyone.
