Instead of rebooting, they should have just gone with a prequel to tell the story of jack sparrows younger days on how he became the pirate he is and how he got the black pearl, it may be without JD but you can sorta continue that world in the past.

I don't think its worth it. the first 3 Pirate movies were epic. especially the third one. but after that, there was nothing but lack luster content... also.. lets be honest. I don't think many people would want to see jack Sparrow played by someone else.

Why not just do prequels? The pirates films have so much world building and apparently alot happened before jack was a pirate. Honestly his dads story would be cool otherwise theres no reason to remake this dead series or even touch it. Prequels or nothing

I love all the Pirate movies. They have some of the best villains. Bill Nighy as Davy Jones, Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, Javier Bardem as Captain Salazar. To me they are the best part of all the movies.

I would not use the word fearsome to describe Jack Sparrow in the first film because at no point in that film does he instill fear in anyone. I'd say the appropriate word to describe Black Pearl Jack Sparrow is cunning. Ultimately, he was notorious.

For any rising film makers, NEVER sell to disney, you'll loose all control and they'll screw up what gold you have polished, same with Warner bros but they're not as bad, I myself just know that Universal agreed to work with Johnny in the midst of his trial things, that to me tells me all I need to know

I’m hoping they would bring The Adventures of Jack Sparrow book series to life. Those were actually interesting to read & had good plots honestly

They won’t. Don’t waste your breath complaining. Just don’t subscribe or buy any of their merchandise. Eventually every mismanaged company goes into obscurity. It happened with Sears and it can happen with Disney. There are many others that just don’t last due to crappy management.

To be honest, I don’t understand why they teased the idea of Davy Jones coming back. Why would you bring him back after his death in Pirates 3? It will just undermine the climax of that movie.

How about making a realistic pirate film like Black Sails instead of another theme park ride movie. Scorsese seems vindicated everyday.

The last one felt very much like a spoof of the franchise itself. Although the story was better than number 4. 4 and 5 just didnt feel big in scope. They felt very Disney plus television show.

Why not just make a fresh new beginning film about Monkey Island with Guybrush Threepwood?

i think it could be a Jack Sparrow cameo situation. Set in the same world as the originals, but adjacent to all the other stuff that has happened in that world. There could be single lines from time to time referencing the black pearl or Jack Sparrow's adventures or something. Something to keep it connected yet separate.

We just need to stop banking on old and dead franchises honestly. Ghost busters 2016 wasn't bad but it wasn't necessary. The new Ghost is even more unnecessary than the 2016 one. Plus these writers need to understand that remaking a movie and color swapping and gender changes arnt new material lol.

I guess it makes sense. The argument could be made that the last Pirates movie felt like a DEFINITIVE ending for this cast. Jack Sparrow and his crew sailed off into the sunset, Will Turner has reunited with Elizabeth and their son and Barbossa sacrificed himself to save his beloved daughter. It was a satisfying ending for these characters that we love.

I disagree that the franchise rests on Jack Sparrow. Sure he’s the selling point, but the reason the first 3 work, is because Jack is more of a supporting character to Will and Elizabeth’s story. Gore Verbinski is the reason those 3 movies work.

Make Pirates like Assassin's Creed Black Flag

John, Jack was never a feared and not to be trifled with character. He was a cunning and eccentric pirate people underestimated until they realized they were fooled.

Personally I would rather see a continuation but with new characters as the leads, though maybe having some returning characters on the side. They are called "Pirates of the Caribbean..." which gives you plenty of opportunity to introduce more Pirate leads. They are not called "Jack Sparrow and the...". I look at it this way, I wouldn't want to see a movie called "Harry Potter..." that doesn't feature Harry Potter.

Reminds me of the cameo role that Marlon Brando had in Superman. Marlon Brando is still one of the actors that he has great admiration for.

If it flop lets hope that they bring him back

I think they need to have completely different characters. Don't just recast Jack Sparrow. I agree with John's criticisms about how Jack became a buffoon throughout the series, and I agree with Kris that the first three movies is what I gravitated towards. The 2nd and 3rd ones got convoluted, but they were still full of interesting characters like Beckett and Davy Jones, not to mention Barbossa, Will, and Elizabeth. I think the series suffered once Jack was the sole lead of the films.

Also its not a pirates of the Caribbean film without The Black Pearl which to me is also a major character

Should give jerry producer award for his work why have not done yet He been producer lot longer than Tom Cruise has sorry Tom

I kind of disagree with John I see what he's saying about the character becoming a joke, but I just watched all 5 back to back and honestly... his arc kind of makes sense, but I get it. The whole point of the 5th WAS that he had lost his mojo, it's literally one of the first things Henry tells him upon meeting him. The film is AWARE that this ISN'T the Jack Sparrow of legends and the end of the film is him returning to that which again if you trace his journey does make sense. Every time Jack gets like- the win the rug gets pulled out from under him. P1 - gets the pearl back after 7 years, next film as to spend the entire movie running for his life (though arguably this is the closet we see to Jack in his prime) next film? Dead for like 1/4th of it gets back has to share the pearl with Barbosa. FINALLY gets the pearl again, then stolen at the end. 4 spends the film trying to get the pearl and save a woman he loves? 5th We open with him not having been able to free the pearl and just yeah out of mojo but again that to me makes sense and let's be honest outside pirates 1 I don't feel like Jack EVER has been as John describes NO one respected Jack since the first film that's a reoccurring gag so I don't know where John is getting this idea. Jack RELIES on this, it's why he ends up sort of screwed every time post P1 because everyone kind of knows not to underestimate him, until you get to P4 which feels kind of like P1 2.0 I really would have liked to see a 6th one final film where we actually get to see Jack be captain of the pearl. That being said a prequel film of Jack in his prime or getting the pearl could be really cool too.

This isn’t fair. We want the sixth film to be a direct sequel to Dead Men Tell No Tales. I hope there’s still time for the producers to change their mind.

Pirates of the Carribbean and the quest to find a replacement lead that will keep the reboot from sinking.

Rebooting is just stupid. They need a really good send off first. Bring back gore Verbinski to do it with the original crew and Johnny needs to stop this silly stupid jack sparrow coz that’s not the same jack from the first 3 movies … then u can think about this coz There’s no need to coz you can just follow a new group set in the same universe like have the new crew doing something and there’s a wanted poster of jack sparrow hanging up just so we know it’s the same world and he’s out there still.

We had 5 movies with Jack Sparrow, I think that’s enough. Depp aged a lot in the last 5 years and I’d rather see an original pirates movie with new characters than seeing old Jack Sparrow being dragged out again for one more adventure.

I've been saying for years, ever since the terrible fifth movie with a truly awful performance by Depp, that they should be done with the character of Jack Sparrow and bring back Zoe Saldaña's character from the first movie to be the new main character. Then there were rumors a few years ago that Disney was considering casting Karen Gillan for a new movie. We know Zoe and Karen work well together. They would make me excited for the new Pirates movies.

Hope they make an entirely new pirate protagonist. You can't have Jack sparrow played by another actor. It's too soon.

It's still my opinion that pirates of the Caribbean 5 was one of the worst big budget films ever made. I'm someone who was a big fan of the first four films. The big problem with the movie was that the fans of the series weren't going to like the direction it went in, and at the same time the script was so terrible that it wasn't going to get any new fans. They should have either just made a fifth film for the fans, or just did a reboot. Either of those option would have made more sense and probably would have made more money.

Start fresh with new characters, give someone else a chance to put their stamp on it. Remember the source material is a Disney park ride, so the canvas is pretty blank here.

Jack Sparrow is overrated. It was the collective ensemble and writing that made those early films amazing, not just Jack.
