Coppola is even out of low flying F's to give. I don't believe he cares whether he has a distributor or if the movie ends up getting dumped onna shtreaming site. He just wants to tell one last story before he dies. He just wants to put it out there. And put out there it will. Even if it's just available on the high seas. THAT'S how much of a true artist he really is. Munny? Screw that. It's all about telling the story. Kudos to him!

Sorry I'm commenting too much on here, but oh well. I strongly suspect that this film is a train wreck, but I won't judge based on an incoherent trailer. The distribution issue: Coppola has not had a hit film in more than thirty years. He has also had mega-flops before: the musical "One from the Heart." If he finds a way to self-distribute (borderline impossible), it will echo his utopian faith in independent distribution that marked his earliest years and his short-lived production company American Zoetrope. But I can't lie-- I'm not sure I'm up for 3+ hours of his megalomaniacal blather, even on IMAX...

All the money comes from the Coppola brand of wine. He still produces wine, so he doesn't need this film to make a profit. This all happened before with Apocalypse Now. Coppola financed Apocalypse Now and it was too weird for distributors. Eventually, people started to understand the film and it has become a classic movie with profits for Coppola.
@SuperRobertoClemente

Actually, this is not true. Apocalypse Now made a $70 million profit at the box office, not later as a cult classic. Coppola's wine business started after that film, in 1980, but wasn't labeled "Coppola" until 2010. He sold much of his stake in it to fund "Megalopolis," so that's not going to be a continued source of self-funding going ahead. It's likely the last film he will ever make.
@erwinquiachon8054

@@SuperRobertoClemente That $70million wasn't made right away. It sounds like it took at least 3 years to make the bulk of that $70 million. I remember receiving a bottle of Coppola wine with the Coppola name on it in the 90's from family in the San Francisco area. Last week at Cannes, Coppola claimed that he was already starting his next film. That sounds like the wine is still a cash cow for him. He also mentioned that Apocalypse Now is still playing in theatres all over the world.

@@erwinquiachon8054 So the reason it took 3 years for AN to make its box office profits is that back then, blockbusters would remain in theaters for years. This happened with Star Wars, Jaws, all the biggies. The first video store only opened in 1977 and it took a few years for that to become a cornerstone of the movie business. Prior to video / DVD / streaming, the movie would be around for a while so people could see it more than once.
