my take at The Lake

my take at The Lake

Always happy to give my take, always happy to be at The Lake--
I invite YOU to join me for some good natured (though often dark, certainly adult) humor & lots of sarcasm while we navigate the world of journal-making, paper crafts and all kinds of creative projects.

I've a variety of playlists for you: "craft-n-chat" type programs (join me whether you're baking, sewing, woodworking, etc.) haul videos (those are always fun!) flip-throughs and loads of different takes on what's going on in the jujo universe.

I’M CONDUCTING A LITTLE EXPERIMENT WITH THIS CHANNEL: can one grow a channel without having to be on every social media platform there is?

YOU can help. If you enjoy the info here, find it the least bit helpful and sorta’ entertaining once in a while, PLEASE share it with people you think may enjoy it as well. I’m certain this can happen without me resorting to nightmarish tangle that is FB.

Thanx for your interest-looking forward to seeing YOU here a lot. Take care-ker

Great ideas. I have been guilty in the past of cleaning off the palette because I like a clean slate but you can still clean it up by using the paint instead of wiping it off and wasting it.

Thanx! Absolutely, there's always something can be done with the "extra paint" either collect it in a notebook, use it to make tiny paintings, or do the shadow work/toning for the next painting. NO reason whatever to wipe it up with a paper towel and toss it, lol.

I never clean my palette. I use palette dirt to do the value study for my next painting or just use the pigment in my next painting. It helps to always mix the same colors in the same space. I have spaces for grays, greens, purples, blues and warms.

Great that you didn't get into that bad habit. What bugs me is that people wanting to learn look to KZreadrs to teach them and then the newbies pick up the YTers' bad (often horrible) habits. For some reason I feel it's my mission to STOP that from happening somehow, lol 🤪 YES! Mixing in the same place all the time is a great habit.

Love this, I find I do this as well. I like to use the excess then I go back and ink it or add other details another day. I like the intentional plans you’ve put in place. This excites me, because usually I play without an idea necessarily. I’m always surprised by the direction. Where did you find those little books? Should you send a link, I like how thick they are and how they lay flat. Really interested in your thought process. Very exciting.

I *wish* that that is all that happened to me! I get pump sprayers (i.e. they have a built-in manual air pump to pressurize them so you only need to hold the trigger down to have a steady spray, instead of having to madly squeeze until your hand cramps up. *HIGHLY* recommended.) I made the mistake of not depressurizing one before putting it away, and the seam on the bottom eventually developed a pinhole leak that slowly emptied half a gallon of mix all over the shelf and the boxes below it. I didn't need it for a few months, so, when I went back for it, everything in the boxes was wet and mouldy. Oof.

Ugh…adulting! How it interferes with playtime! Great video that inspired me. I mainly have used my composition book to use up paint on the brushes but intentionally laying it down to create background pages is a great idea and a good, non-threatening place to experiment with mark making and the next steps. People (me in the past) tend to look at a whole page like yours and wonder what they could do with it but looking at small sections and how one could use them in other pieces is the key. Making various sized cut out “windows” and moving them around really gives one new eyes with which to see the possibilities. I would love to see your “next steps” in a future video. Tfs

You're SO right making little window of scrap cardboard or heavy paper is such a great way to see things anew.
