Gridlessness

Gridlessness

Off-grid, because the grid can't contain us! Welcome to our off-grid homesteading family.

Sick of the same old stuff? We didn't want any part of it so we dumped the system and built a little cabin in the woods of northern BC, Canada. We enjoy everything outdoors; hunting, fishing, gardening, raising animals and just general homesteading. We love building stuff and developing new skills (some of which are actually very old).

Without debt we work less and have more time to explore! We spend more time in the woods, more time learning new things and more time with friends and family.

Love the simple life? Us too! Subscribe and check out our website and e-store if you're into that kind of thing: www.gridlessness.com/

Thanks,

I know you are having fun, But, this is the Most impractical off grid power system. I can produce 25K all day long with solar, charge 60K of batteries and No Noise and No Noise! All that work for such little power. And Most don't have wood available. We all have sun. I produce even on cloudy days.

How do these systems hold up in winter? Do you have alternative strategies for when everything is frozen? Do you just store enough water to last the winter?

Just wondering if you ever got the Wood Gasifier up and running where you could use that instead of using gas in the generator.

O-Gaud! Don't tell everyone how much you're saving aka making off the property... Trudeau has Taxes for that. According to CRA that is Income and subject to Income Tax... Someone who may be offended by your prosperity could blow the whistle on you, then look out... Sheesh! Btw, I love the video and after looking at the "Get Together", I'd love to participate. However, I don't know if I could afford it. Also, You don't mention anything about Bathroom Facilities for those staying in a tent, as I would be... You might check that 🙂

You could possibly make a natural filtration system, before collecting the water into maybe a tank and then running it through the generator.

I wonder if the large system is experiencing a backflow problem. The pressure might be pushing back on the system causeing the slowdown.

Wood Power is what people used to rely on & while it's good your responsible you can be even more "self-sufficient" with a Job paying a Energy Company. People need to realize Europeans evolved from methods like these 100s of years ago & whether you choose to use wood as a fuel or go to work & buy your electricity it requires time & commitment either way. While this stuff seems kinda fun modern living makes it so much easier to sustain human life. It's why we are living so much longer than we used to.

In my humble opinion, I think that the turbine is not capable of managing the amount of water flow, all the water that enters the turbine helps move it but also slows it down, so you could be losing performance, you should try with less flow. water and test the performance, with a slightly larger turbine you would still have better performance for that level of water

Solar isn't free, in fact it's far from free! You had to buy everything to get and to store those "electrons", and on top of that, in time it will have to all be replaced. None of that is cheap so your electricity is FAR from free. SR

I had wanted to comment on the Beer for Children video, but comments are turned off. I have basically almost been binge watching all of your channel entries since you visited the Tiny Shiny Home family a couple of months ago. I am so impressed with the family activities and interactions, that this is one channel that I would recommend to people of all age groups. All the girls (including Rose) are amazing and you have also done a pretty good job as well so keep up the good work.
