We hunted the BIGGEST ANIMAL in North America!

Ойын-сауық

We hunted the BIGGEST Animal in North America! I've been putting in for a Bison tag in BC's LEH draw for over 20 years. This year, I finally got it! We planned for months, packed 2 weeks worth of food and gear..... and spotted a Bison on the first morning.

This is hands down your A-Number-1, Top Tier, Flag Ship, hunting video, I know this because I've watched them all more than once. You guys had everything going for you. This hunt was not unlike an old Hollywood movie the way everything fell into place so perfectly. The scene opens as you enter into the hunting ground... "OH! LOOK! There's a bison!" You come up with your plan of attack and make your way in. Being ever so careful to stay down-wind of your targeted prey, you take the high ground. Quickly and quietly the family moves into position. Then once in place, situated merely 30 yards above the goal, you encounter some obstacle's that could (at least) prove to unravel your initial plan of action. Then to make matters worse, you're hunting party is exposed. The ever vigilant quarry senses the presence of the huntsmen (and women) and he takes off running in a desperate attempt to save his own life. With absolutely no time to waste, in a heroic effort to snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat, our fearless leader (who's definitely the star of this episode) jumps into action moving ever so swiftly to find a location where he could get that one shot at accomplishing a goal that has been 20 years in the making. In a state of feeling, more than in a state of thinking, our hero (and I'm not talking hoagie) finds a small aperture of opportunity that is literally about one quarter the size of a McDonald's drive through window. Without hesitation. Because the hunter is well aware of the fact that he has not a second to lose, he squeezes the trigger...BANG! The shot echo's out into the valley below. A single projectile threads the needle of a lifetime and hit's the target with far more then just remarkable accuracy. A majestic animal that will feed the hunters family for at least the entire winter falls to the ground. He's done it! He has pursued his dream of a lifetime, and he has reached the top of that mountain... triumphant. Who knew that our hero would reach the pinnacle of such an elevated and lofty goal well before young Abigail would even think to announce that it was time for lunch. The End. Of this particularly epic Gridlessness saga. Usually the hunting part takes far longer than the cleaning, processing, and packing out, part. This truly was the hunt of a lifetime. Well done Birkenshaw family. Well done. Take care. sincerely, Dean O. :-I

My 61 year old knees hurt just thinking about it. This is definitely why I have horses and pack saddles. Watching your videos definitely bring back fond memories. Love watching your videos and admire your family values. I never got to hunt moose with my grandfather and dad in BC but I listened to many stories. That big old deer was so tough it was the only way they could eat it. This was over 75 years ago. The herds weren't managed quite as well and I think they are producing much better now. Awesome video. Over the last 25 years i have been up there Buffalo hunting 3 times, all of which were in December with temperatures hovering around -30 and we also slept in wall tents. Only once were we able to connect with bison and it was within 3 km of the air strip where we parked the trucks. The ones that we got on that trip were only yearlings and were still large enough that i was happy to be able to ride the sleds right up to them in order to take them out...... absolutely amazing that you and your girls were able to pack that bull out on your backs. Many grown men wouldnt be willing to take on that task. Watching this video has made me yearn to make another trip up there. From what i have been hearing this year, you were very fortunate to have gotten a Buffalo, most people i have talked to this year, never even saw one. Thanks for sharing this adventure.

Those wedding pics are just the sweetest thing. You both seem to still look at each other the same way. Never change! Those quads may have more hp, but they can't get to places a pack horse can. You all would have been out of there the 1st day. I would think if you could have made a travois from some tree limbs or poles and a canvas to go between them, you could have dragged most of that beast out to your camp.
