Plum Village

Plum Village

This is the official account for the Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh and our centers practicing in the Plum Village Tradition.

Plum Village, in southwest France, is the first monastic community founded by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh (Thay) in the West. Plum Village is where Thay has realized his dream of building a Beloved Community: creating a healthy, nourishing environment where people can learn the art of living in harmony with one another and with the Earth.

At all our centers we weave mindfulness into all our daily activities, training ourselves to be mindful throughout the day: while eating, walking, working, or enjoying a cup of tea together. We enjoy periods of silence, sitting meditation, rest, relaxation, mindful work and play. On this KZread channel we are sharing Dharma talks, guided meditations, songs and chants from the Plum Village Tradition.

So weird. I am aware of most sensations all of the time and quite frankly that lack of a filter I have since childhood is exactly my problem. I wish I were not aware of textures on my skin or the feeling of sitting or how the cushion feels and I absolutely hate it. And part of that problem is the prefrontal cortex. Be glad of yours is functioning as it should.

there is nothing stronger than the dedication to Onself and the nature you might possess for an intentioned Life. Should we not take these lessons, organizations, as evidence that it's possible! Quite elegant and mystical as well. Namaste, plum village. You all are blazing trails toward an illuminated future...

Sounds somewhat similar to the way Merlin explains the Dragon to Arthur in the movie Excalibur (1981): "It is everywhere. It is every thing. Its scales glisten in the bark of trees. Its roar can be heard upon the wind. And its forked tongue strikes like... like [at that moment a lightning bolt hits a tree] WHOAH! LIKE LIGHTNING! Yes, that's it." He then tells Arthur to put aside his questions, do nothing and let himself sleep. "Rest easy in the arms of the Dragon. Dream." The next morning when Arthur observes that the sword Excalibur is also part of the Dragon, Merlin compliments him on how quickly he made the connection.

Where does the universe go after it dies in the form of entropic heat death? Higher multiverse? Cyclical universes? What does the Higher multiverse go when it runs down lol. I was of the mind the they were simply equating "life and its energetic form chi as an example. But that can't be the case as life force its self is limited. It's like the difference between you dieing and a species dieing. So not life... So what? Obviously all of these are concepts, so not this. Beyond conception so not understandable. So how does one come to have faith in something untenable? I know I have faith but I don't know how or why I have it. Why do they always use easy to empathise with examples of love when they try to explain this stuff too. It's easy to empathise with your child and say yes I see. Much harder to empathise with a monolithic totality of totality of totality of totality of nothing. I like a challenge give me the mountain 😂. Also and this is pretty much were I am. It's beyond concepts, but we used to concepts to get to the point where we realise it's beyond all concepts. Doesn't our conclusion invalidate all our work we did to get to our conclusion there fore invalidating the conclusion lol. I mean I see where your pointing and it well I can't say it makes sense lol but I can get with it, but it still doesn't seem conclusive to me. Which obviously would lie on the nihilistic side of things lol but I ain't suffering here with this is love it. This is what I live for. What gives?

Thank you Sister for sharing and being vulnerable in parts of your talk. Especially talking about struggles of parts of your childhood. I'm 48, working my way through dealing with CPTSD from mostly child abuse and then the train wreck that I called a life after it. I'm learning and seeing that when I open up and talk to others about it, instead of hiding from it from others.... Mostly I have been received with respect and some love. Two things I did not get as a child , or young adult. By me.... Opening up my heart more ... I am hearing back from others " me too". One day I will sit on a cushion with you all ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Looking deeply at the Right Action Thay took in opposition to the atrocities of the Vietnam War is a wonderful category of how to engage with someone who is acting in unnourishing ways. Thay did not choose the path of passivity, and he chose the path of compassionate, radical action. It cost him access to his mother country and root temple for nearly the rest of his life. And he showed the world how to turn toxic excrement into fertile mud and blossom like a lotus from the mud of uncertainty and suffering. He did not teach nor model to remain passive and sit in toxic excrement without mindfully engaging . . . with Right Action. Some beings are Hungry Ghosts as Thay describes in many of his teachings--and will seek to "profit" off the Sangha and/or "consume" the Sangha in some way no matter how much the Sangha offers them. The Ninth through the Fourteenth Mindfulness Trainings offer wisdom to my heart on this topic.

I am a fanboy of Sister True Dedication (it’s true!) While I appreciate many dharma talks, she is one of my favorites. My current anxiety is wondering the role I can play, however small, in helping the situation in Palestine. There are innocent people we should be protecting from eminent war.

Very educative. I love your videos. Please allow me to interrupt. I feel Buddhists should know this. I do research on how Buddhism disappeared in Bihar. I realized it never disappeared from Bihar. Buddhists simply failed to research Indian Buddhism. They looked at Buddhism through the sphere of their own cultures searching for only the Buddha. Buddha had a myriad of names in different villages according to his teachings there. Example. His favorite teaching was 'Lust and desire causes pain. Remove lust and desire, and pain is removed'. Translated into Bihari (where the Buddha story took place) it is DHUKH HARAN meaning to remove dukha. Three dozen villages pray to DUKH HARAN Baba. Its clear that DUKH HARAN Baba is none other than the Buddha. Problem is Buddhists are searching only for the Buddha. In the real Vaishali the Buddha begged for alms. The locals there pray to 'BHIKHAINI' Baba (Beggar Baba). Bhikhaini was mispronounced by Buddhists as Bhikshu. Who is BHIKHAINI Baba. The Buddha no doubt. But people are searching for a man called Buddha. In the real Vaishali, in Beluha the Buddha suffered a sickness and felt he had grown old. The locals pray to 'BURHA' Baba (Old Baba). Who is BURHA Baba. The Buddha no doubt. In the real Vaishali the Lichavies pressurized Buddha not to die. They trailed him to Bandagawan pressurizing him not to die. To put pressure in Hindi is DABESHWAR. Three dozen villages around the stupa where Buddha gave the Lichavies his patra, the villagers pray to Baba 'DABESHWAR NATH' meaning the man who won the pressurizing game. It was the the Buddha no doubt as he gave the Lichavies his patra and succeded in sending them back. But Buddhists are searching for the Buddha. Forgive me for commenting out of the topic. I just wanted to impart this information to you.

02:04 I'm sorry if I am being impolite, or rude, or wrong, or anything else as such, but I am honestly wondering if there is no self in Buddhism, what (kind of) self - if any - was the Buddha actually refering to when he said "take refuge in the island of self"? Could this self be strictly ubderstood as a "conventional self", or is it merely the simple sense of some inward stability/solidity, etc., or perhaps something else altogether? Thank you in advance, and once again, I do sincerely apologise in case my public comment/question is a potential seed of confusion among those who read it (please kindly understand my comment was not written in that way and it is not meant to do any possible harm whatsoever). Thank you! 🙏🏻
