Have you always wanted to get into cosplay or prop making? Already a prop maker looking for some inspiration? Samhain Propworks is a home for both old and new creators, I try to be approachable and funny while doing what I love, which is building props. I want to get people creating and doing, rather than just watching and forgetting. I will be offering both beginner projects that only require a hotglue gun and scissors, to projects that will require woodworking tools such as a jigsaw or a bandsaw. I want to inspire the art form of prop making and I hope you will join me for your own personal creative journey.
So whether you are into decor, haunts, prop making or cosplay, you will find something here to enjoy!

Bought the .stl files for the blunderebuss and they came out great but the endpiece for the barrel wasn't included in the files. Reached out and heard back within 24 hours and got the missinmg file.
Let me check and if it was missed, I’ll add it to the downloadable files!
Alright! I uploaded an additional file you can download! Let me know if you can grab it, thanks for the heads up!
What is he foam material used for the plugs?
This is so great! How do these hold up in the weather? Fantastic work!
Great job!
Do paper towel tubes work too?
They would be very soft, and the labels are built to wrap around a 1" tube so you might run into some issues :)
Went to your site for the free specimen labels and am wondering why you need my address for that?
My website is a Wordpress shop and it's just where I put all my stuff as some of the things I sell are purchased items with shipping so signup needs to include it for those who are just downloading the digital items. I'm the only person who sees the orders, and the site is 100% on my own servers so I am the only person with access to the information. In reality, one of my favourite things is when an order goes through and I get the automatic email I enjoy seeing all the different parts of the world my fans and builders are from. So rest easy, your data is safe and I only ever use it for shipping items out if a physical purchase is made.
Are you planning to insert bearings in the hubs?
Not really, these wheels are great for display purposes, and they will take the weight of whatever prop you put on the axle. A bearing would allow easier rolling but would be overkill as these wheels may hold up to a ton of use but they would need the metal band around the circumference to ensure the wheels holds up to many thousands of revolutions that a bearing allows. Regardless, I hope that helps! Thanks for watching :)
Thank you for the quick response. Yes it makes sense that they won't be used as road going wheels. I was just thinking for cool factor, especially if raised off the ground and turned by hand. Thanks again for the great video and instructions 👍👍👍
Love it!
Thank you! This is a great prop and is a much smaller footprint than the full sized one, so it's great for year round house display. lol.
Brilliant! Love it!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching :)
Always enjoy your projects but pirate ones are my favorite!
Same!
I love the pirate props, decorating them and aging them up is my favourite part. The only issue is that I am starting to run low on iconic smaller pirate props to build. I have to keep going bigger each time! I have some ideas for more props, but the list is definitely getting shorter.
Hey! Those shackles would work perfectly for the Frankenstein monster-and keep him from clanging around downstairs all night!🧟♂ Thank you, Samhain! Your cannon is sensational and looks so real like it should weigh at least a ton!😄👍👍
A 3d printer is amazing for building elements like that for props, a real time saver. I tell the printer to go and as I am building other parts I come back inside and see a completed shackle. It really is awesome. The prop turned out real nice and I'm just sad I have to stash it away in storage. Been tempted to start renting out the full set of 2 cannons and the pirate chest as a themed package. We shall see! Thanks for watching Fraidy!
I dont think the videos are to loñg
Thanks for the vote of confidence Floki! I worry as we live in a world of diminished attention spans and getting to the end of a 20 minute video is a tough request these days. Thanks for watching!
I’M NOT JUST A FRIEND I’M YOUR BROTHER YOU JERK Regarding lost audio: Adam Savage refactored his channel from camera operators, multiple cameras, and mics to a single iPhone. It has a few positive effects: 1. Easier editing 2. No lost audio 3. It reduces obstacles to producing a video 4. (My favourite point of his) using the mic built in to the camera means that your audio level is relative to your distance from the camera. So if you’re across the room grabbing something, it sounds like you’re across the room grabbing something. It makes the video feel alive.
You should take the label of friend in higher esteem!!! A brother you have no choice to be associated with, a friend you choose to want to be around. You are very much my brother, but even more so you are my friend. I will admit at times, the biggest cramp to my creative process is recording it! Maybe I will try a more free flow recording style and see how it works out. Thanks for watching my videos even if they are not 100% in your wheelhouse of interest :)
That looks pretty cool! Can I ask what kind of caulking you used to works with EVA foam?
I just use paintable Acrylic Latex caulk. It works amazing and have never ran into shrinking issues after drying.
Great video, I do have a request though. Could you provide a list of materials and where to purchase.
I usually just give general suggestions where to find things, as every country has different stores. The XPS foam can be purchased at any home improvement store, the paint is any acrylic paint you can get your hands on, in the colours you want the wood to be. :). Thanks for watching!
I'm a propmaker from Tijuana. What type of wood is better for that type of props? Im planing to make a chaservill French musket, but what i want is to make a bayonet for my version.
I just used spruce, but in reality you can use any wood you have access to that you feel confident working with. I had not thought about the bayonet, that would be a great addition to the prop! Thanks for watching!
We love your vids. What kind of foam do you use?
Really happy you enjoy the videos! On this prop I use XPS Foam which you can purchase at almost any home improvement store.
Hey Samhain! Great work! I’m new here and am blown away with your work, you have a skilled hand. Quick question, for the flintlock pistol files, it’s pulling up the rifle files when I look at them on your website. Any ideas? Are the pistol files still available? I’m considering doing a couple pistols. Edit: I just went to your website and found the files. Cheers from the old pirate capital of the world, south Florida.
Hey Bowbowjang, looks like you managed to find the files you were looking for. The combination of all three of these props really look good together and I am happy I decided to make the stocks out of wood as they really really get a nice finish without too much work. Glad you enjoy the videos and thanks for watching!
Are you sharing the 3D files? If so where?
Oh Gosh... I never uploaded the file for this prop! I'll get this sorted ASAP just have to make sure I did actually make a dimension file for this one. Regardless I will make sure I get the 3d printer files for the phone up! Thanks for catching this Forresterickson!
@@SamhainPropworks Looking forward to files. My sister has a log style home in rural Wisconsin and I would think this would look great in her home.
@@SamhainPropworks Looking forward to the files. I use FreeCAD and will be able to import STEP and some other files if your native drawing file types are not FreeCAD.
Hi, where do you get the foam from??? I am looking to do faux beams in my home.
This is XPS foam and you can buy it in large sheets from any Home Improvement store. Thanks for watching Authenticmotherhood!
Yes, you are amazing, Samhain!🙌💥😲-And, lately, I seem to be using WeldBond on everything!🤔😂💫
Very nice video. I learned a lot!
Thanks Czarnick, I am by all means not a trained woodworker, but I know enough to make things look like I do! I actually have used this same trim around my patio door but that one got a whole bunch of arches included, maybe I'll share that one to give people Ideas as well.
Great job.
Thanks! It was wheely fun to build :)
Well done
Thanks a bunch! Dad joke and all huh? lol
Do u have a printable template?
Hey Astrogirlau, the template was over on Samhain.ca but I had neglected to add it to the video description. I have fixed it now but you can find it at samhain.ca/product/spirit-talking-board-template/ regardless. Thanks for watching :)
Your joints show thoughtful, beautiful design regarding movement and stability. Bravo!
Thanks for the kind words! I put a TON of work into those joints (I have a box of failed tests as a reminder), It's tough to make them small and functional and some of the movements human joints offer is crazy. I figured the 3 versions I designed will anyone to build the frame for almost any creature they can imagine.
can u send me the sticker plz
The sticker? The linked file has the dimensions and the box label, No stickers just a printable file you glue on! Hope this helps :)
I cannot find how many 2 by 6 and 2 by 4 needed
I don't think I set the exact number you needed but you can calculate it pretty quickly just breaking down the instructions in the video. When you do buy the lumber buy extra to make room for potential mistakes and errors as this wheel is fairly complicated when it comes to a wooodworking project. Thanks for watching! -Samhain
👍
Thanks Miami!
Looks great!
I have been looking at this 3/4 complete cannon in my living room for a month now. I have to get it finished this week! Glad you enjoyed the video and hopefully you will enjoy the finished version as well!
Thats awesome
Thanks! it's a fun project with a great outcome! Thanks for watching
What kind of foam is this?
It's XPS foam, you can get it from most home improvement stores in the insulation area! Hope this helps.
I LOVE this prop, Samhain! I keep staring at the amazing final paint job, and already I want to paint everything like this!!😂 (Do you think it’ll work for my flying saucer?!🛸 😁🤞)
Hey Fraidy! Yes the final color is awesome, I always love those metallic spray paints even if they are expensive as heck! I should do a flying saucer as a prop, that would be fun! Thanks for watching as always Fraidy!
This is really cool, I love how simple it is but how detailed it turns out. Thank you! 🥳💚
Thanks, one of the best parts of prop making is taking the most basic things and turning them into the believable. My oldest daughter stole both of these scrolls and they have resided in her room (Along with the massive nether blade I made) since I made them. Thanks for watching :)
This looks great! Have you thought about doing any leather or faux foam leatherwork for pirate accessories, like maybe belts or a sword baldric?
You know, the sky is the limit! In many cases it's whatever catches my eye any given week. I'm going to put it on my idea list and maybe you may see some great piratey accessories in the future! Thanks for watching :)
Hi there mate, I would like to buy one of your flintlocks How much?
Hey! Sadly due to Canadian law, even those these are considered antique replicas, they would be confiscated at the border. Some newer laws that were put in caused two of the largest replica maker in Canada to close their doors as shipping out of the country became impossible.
You should have narrated this video in a pirate voice. 🏴☠ ARRRRR!!! 🏴☠
I have been tempted to, but I'm sure the pirate voice experts may have an issue when I use an "Arrr" instead of an "Yarr". If it helps I am usually listening to sea shanties as I am building in this theme! Thanks for watching :)
Great job by you and your assistant!
I had wanted to get her to do more things on this prop, but the content is a bit complicated. I think I am going to find a prop she can build and let her do a whole video on her own. She is so excited whenever she has a chance to be involved so I do want to encourage her :) I'm sure my audience will enjoy hearing her take on a video!
You shared a lot of great tips! I went through a lot of pain years ago trying to get paint to stick to a paint bucket until randomly learning about sanding + acetone. Looking forward to the second part.
It's funny, I should have looked it before I started on how to do things, but I find I enjoy attacking the problems I come across and come up with my own solutions as they are sometimes things nobody has thought of before, or times like this where it is pretty standard practice. I just noticed that with just sanding my paint was not sticking the way I wanted it to, if you look at the unpainted bucket you can see both black and white I was testing with to see how well it was bonding. It's always an adventure to say the least! Thanks for watching!
It almost looks like an old bell
It 100% does, it looked like one so much I made a note as I was building it that I had to make a bell prop as it has that look to it!
SO Cool, I want one on my deck! I liked your other canon video too! Thanks for the great tip working with the foam. I had an idea to make an old Ships Anchor.
The two builds have lots of similarities but very different outcomes. I’m looking forward to seeing them both complete! Thanks for watching 😀
I love this. I've been wanting to make a canon prop for a long time.
Depending on the cannon style you want be sure to check out my original 3 part build of the larger cannon depending on which one suits your wants/needs best!
Good job!
Thanks! I'm looking forward to getting this smaller brother to the full length cannon all built. This one thankfully takes up less floor space :). Thanks for watching!
I want to thank you ❤ I needed to create dynamite sticks!! For a film I am involved with.
I would greatly enjoy seeing the final film where they are used! It really is a fun and realistic looking prop! I’m sure it will fit right in!
@@SamhainPropworks absolutely!!
I can send you a link when the film comes out. Still in production 👍
This video made me think about Wellerman- There once was a ship that put to sea…
I actually was listening to a whole bunch of shanties while working on this, really put me in the mood! Thanks for watching!
This is so cool! Thanks for posting!
Glad you enjoyed the build! It’s a fun and easy prop with a great outcome! Thanks for watching!
I don't have a printer myself but have a friend who does and said he could print the parts for me but wants to know how many actual pieces and the approximate print time for all the parts. I need this answered before I buy your print files.
Wonderful work, as always.
Thank you for sharing them on your blog propnomicon! You really have a great ongoing curated list going there! Im just happy you enjoy my builds!
Thanks, Samhain! I’ll have to remember this for my Frankenstein lab.⚡️🧟♂️💥😄👍👍
This won’t suit a Frankenstein lab though. That would have to be a multi-part video all stitched together to do something like that! Thanks for your support Fraidy!
Can you make one that’s a castle this design is sick
Funny you ask! I have 2 of them printed out and I have just not got around to making the video for yet! If at very least I'll throw them up on my instagram account for you to see! Thanks for watching :)
yes!! @@SamhainPropworks
