Thanks Bladed! It really turned out quite authentic looking! Now to build the rest of the helm wheel to match it! Thanks for watching :)
Well...blow me down! Shiver me timbers! That's beautiful, Samhain! While not a ship wheel, I do have an antique folk art Ferris wheel that I want to refinish. I wish I knew of one easy, brush-on shortcut!!😅😉

I have a solution! Make a magic wand prop, and then just wave it twice at the Ferris wheel while saying "Restoria Automatica" and VOILA, fixed and renewed. The only problem is you will need a piece of hawthorn wood harvested under a full moon while a wolfs howling in the background in order to make the wand. So I think it might be easier to just fix up the Ferris wheel! lol.

I really love this idea. I don't have any of the wood tools necessary, but thought it was cool. I've been wanting a ship's wheel for a tiki adventure room so this was enjoyable to watch.

Hey Zombie Dave! The good news, if this is an item you hang on a wall away from lots of contact you can easily build this out of XPS styrofoam! I struggle sometimes to keep these props accessible, but sometimes just the nature of the prop has me building it almost like it originally was. I had thought of making a kit, but a few off the steps like the routing needs to be done post assembly. I have been tempted to sell the completed wheel, but shipping might be prohibitive! Thanks for watching :)

I actually was listening to a whole bunch of shanties while working on this, really put me in the mood! Thanks for watching!
Once I heard Drunken Sailor playing as background music.... I knew you were alright. I'm thinking of using it for a belt buckle... but that would "drive me nuts" yarrrrr

I read your comment to my wife after having a great laugh, that will forever go into my longterm dad-joke repertoire. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and the music! I have a whole new set of pirate music to use on a future pirate themed video, just have to decide what to build next! Thanks for watching @royruther4895
I call screw ups "features". Great video!

I like that.. "Features" I guess my builds have lots of character and features! lol! Thanks for watching :)
Would you list all the stains used, please? Thanks.
When I was watching your video about the wheel, I was thinking about how I could adapt it to a helm wheel 😉 I made one last year by layering up cardboard and covering with stainable wood filler (I added a wire wreath form for strength, hung it in my entry as a chandelier with LED flame candles, complete with melted hot glue). It was ok, but didn't survive storage.

Hey Peter! The wagon wheel is what inspired this design, we were on the same wavelengths. You can build this out of EPS styrofoam, but for making an authentic looking wheel I honestly could find no corners to really cut to make it an easier build. It's one of those props where you do it properly so it survives more than one year. Your concept sounds cool, how well did the wood filler do overall, what part gave out in storage?

@@SamhainPropworks The wood filler worked very well, as long as it is the stainable kind. A couple of the handles bent, and instead of reinforcing it I figured I would make a different one later. I didn't think anyone would notice if I chucked it, but it turned out that the ships wheel chandelier was my 13yo daughter's favorite decoration last year.
Could you do one mounted and spinning? I have the wheel but feel a bit stumped now re how to get it mounted onto a piece of the deck - which is like a bit of fence.

I will dig it out B-Mack and record the video. I had built the mount for it but never recorded the video. Most likely will be a short! Thanks for watching :)

If you have access to a bandsaw it will make it a breeze. Just be patient with the build and measure twice and cut once 😀. It is a fun project with a great end result, good luck!

@iagree1642 The template is sized to be printed on standard 8.5 x 11 paper (Normal paper size) and then taped together. I try to cater to the basic level of printer most people have :)
Can You Make me the same thing all cut out! Charge me and Mail it to me ill put it together ???if so lettme know ???

Hey Andora, I would sell you the pieces but there is work that needs to be done post assembly (Routing and the such). I could offer to sell you the completed version of this that sits in my garage currently if you were interested in that direction, but shipping might be prohibitive. Throw me an email, we can discuss it.
