Fy Nyth

Fy Nyth

Welcome! I'm Ariel. Along with my husband Clay, our dogs, cats, bees, & some poultry, we live in a tiny house nestled into a high mountain valley in western Wyoming & are working on settling into our own little homestead. Come along as we work to help an abused piece of land become productive once again for us, our animals, & wild things too. We try to share real life here. The good & the bad. The ups & the downs. What works & what doesn't. The parts we love (most of it!), & the things that suck. Not just the romantic idea of "homesteading" or tiny house life, but everyday details. We split wood for heat, get gravity fed water from a spring, use a composting toilet, & attempt to produce as much of our own food as possible. We hope others can learn from our mistakes & to make life just a little easier for anyone else interested in pursuing similar goals. We live in a fairly harsh & cold climate, but enjoy the stunning scenery & wildlife that we are surrounded by. We're glad you're here!

Here's a variety of cantaloupe for you developed here in Minnesota by the U of M in 1947 called, of all things, Minnesota Midget! Produces 4-6 inch fruits, golden yellow fruit, and an edible rind. Good choice for northern gardeners. Like sunshine and can stand cool nights. (When frost was predicted, I covered mine with old sheets that I bought at garage sales) 60 to 70 days to harvest. Some northern gardeners have gotten 2 crops in one season. They love containers. They are fabulous! So dang tasty!

Seeing you sifting that soil felt a bit close to home this week as I just put a couple of fruit trees in (I don't think they'll do well, but I wanted a corner cleared) and to do so dug out any amount of glass, pottery, well-rotted barbed wire and two three-foot-by-seven sheets of heavy gauge corrugated iron! What the previous owner was thinking I don't dare think...

What a wonderful home you have there. Looking forward to following your progress in building out your permanent home. My spouse and I live a (relatively) minimal lifestyle in a small apartment in Santa Monica, Los Angeles.

What a well thought out project. Do you two approach projects similarly? Curious how the project germination and development goes ... all in the easy chairs in the evening? Spit balling vs analytical?

We have the same planters and are on year 3 and working great for just us 2 old folks. Just watch the sharp edge on the top and even use a bit of glue on the rubber.

That is a lot of work and a great workout! Firstly you must have a lot of energy and time to operafe it. However it surely gets the clothes very clean. Personally i would prefer to wash my clothes the old fashioned way by using a brush and rinse in the bathroom. I guess it would be much much faster. Appreciate your video especially of how much water you have saved.🎉
