Reducing Duck Water Splash - Water Guard that Can Handle -30's F, No More Iced to the Ground Ducks

With our extreme cold for more than half of the year, ducks splashing water onto the ground and then freezing themselves into it has been a problem. This winter we solved that!

Join Fy Nyth on social media - mewe.com/i/fynyth ! If you are new to my channel and Fy Nyth (Welsh for "My Nest") in general, welcome! I'm Ariel. Along with my husband Clay, our dogs, cats, bees, and some poultry, we live in a tiny house on wheels in the mountains of western Wyoming and are working on setting into our own new little homestead. I've been living this lifestyle since 2014 and my wonderful partner has joined me more recently. What will you find if you follow the channel and watch the videos?
Real life here. I try to show the good and the bad. The ups and the downs. What works, and what doesn't. The parts I love (most of it!), and the things that suck. Not just the showroom version of a tiny house, but everyday life in a tiny house. Not just the romantic idea of "homesteading" or off grid life, but the everyday details of this lifestyle. We split wood for heat, fill the water tank from a gravity fed spring, and attempt to grow as much of our own food as possible between the weather and wildlife here. I hope to help others learn from mistakes and make life just a little easier for anyone else interested in pursuing a similar lifestyle.
We live in a somewhat harsh and cold climate, but enjoy the stunning scenery and wildlife that we are surrounded by on a daily basis. You'll also see videos of the nature and wildlife around my home. If you are interested in my photography or purchasing a photo, I'd love if you follow that over at mewe.com/join/arielcelestepho... or ArielCelestePhotography.zenfolio.com!

I'm worried, she hasn't vlogged in a while, I hope it's not because of bad news concerning Burley That would be a heart break. That dog is one of a kind, protector by land and even the sky. Not be mention how sweet he is.

Your critters have no idea how fortunate they live. You are the best caretaker I’ve ever watched. I think Clay knows, for he sealed a deal to keep you close, smart man. I appreciate your thoughtful commentary, sharing your life with us, generous and kind.

No ducks but enjoyed the video just the same. My dad, born 1921, would have admired you greatly, as I do. He was a man with a lot of ingenuity about making and fixing things, again, like you have.

Wow. A big jump in subscribers. That’s great! You deserve it and produce quality info in a pleasing package. No doubt the retrospective of your time in the clearing helped folks find you. I just heard KZread was going to no skip 30 second ads. Ugh. That will shorten my list of creators I’ll bother watching. But will always watch your channel. Thanks for your efforts. I know making these videos is hard than it seems.

I may do this, but use a wider shallow tub over a smaller deeper tub; I have 2 right now that would work perfectly

Ariel. You had an electric jigsaw that cut easily through the plastic, so why on earth did you struggle with tin snips, to cut the rim off? Work smarter, not harder. Thumbed up anyway, for the algorithm.

Hi Sarkybugger. Trying to cut something soft with a jig saw when one end is loose, is difficult. Much bouncing around and hard to control. There may have been a way to stabilize it, but also a good way to get injured. I’m guessing Ariel puts a lot of thought and very much prioritizes not getting injured.

@@Pinetree282 In the words of that Musk fellow, "It's really not that hard." 1: Place bucket on its side, overhanging edge of work surface by an inch or two. 2: Put jigsaw inside the bucket at required depth, and start cutting. 3: Take hold of cut end with other hand, as you roll the bucket along. Remove when it gets too long. It's all irrelevant, as the job is now done. Maybe she'll see this comment, and remember for next time. 😁

Wasn’t saying it couldn’t be done. I was saying the risk of injury was greater than the way Ariel did it. I would be surprised if Ariel hadn’t considered using the jig saw, but decided it was too risky or wouldn’t do as good a job as hand cutting.

But like you said. The job is done and works well. I realize you were trying to be helpful.

@@Pinetree282 If you say that, you really are clueless. You completely ignore the fact that she had already used two power tools prior to cutting the rim off, and on neither occasion were safety glassess in evidence, or a hair net, or hearing protection, or gloves. You should do a little light research into what a spinning tool can do when it gets hold of some beautiful long hair and rips it out in chunks, along with the scalp it was attached to. More chance of injury using the wrong tool for the job. Tin snips are designed for cutting thin sheet metal, jigsaws are designed for cutting most sheet material. Don't put your hands in front of any powered cutting tool.
