Join Fy Nyth on social media - mewe.com/i/fynyth ! If you are new to my channel and Fy Nyth (Welsh for "My Nest") in general, welcome! I'm Ariel. Along with my husband Clay, our dogs, cats, bees, and some poultry, we live in a tiny house on wheels in the mountains of western Wyoming and are working on setting into our own new little homestead. I've been living this lifestyle since 2014 and my wonderful partner has joined me more recently. What will you find if you follow the channel and watch the videos?
Real life here. I try to show the good and the bad. The ups and the downs. What works, and what doesn't. The parts I love (most of it!), and the things that suck. Not just the showroom version of a tiny house, but everyday life in a tiny house. Not just the romantic idea of "homesteading" or off grid life, but the everyday details of this lifestyle. We split wood for heat, fill the water tank from a gravity fed spring, and attempt to grow as much of our own food as possible between the weather and wildlife here. I hope to help others learn from mistakes and make life just a little easier for anyone else interested in pursuing a similar lifestyle.
We live in a somewhat harsh and cold climate, but enjoy the stunning scenery and wildlife that we are surrounded by on a daily basis. You'll also see videos of the nature and wildlife around my home. If you are interested in my photography or purchasing a photo, I'd love if you follow that over at mewe.com/join/arielcelestepho... or ArielCelestePhotography.zenfolio.com!

Great to see you using such devices again. I hope more people take advantage of them in the States. I live in a village in Germany, where it's standard to dry clothing outside wherever possible. Because of the wind, such rotary dryers are common in back yards. I use racks inside during cold weather and/or rain. In the cities, racks are common (esp. when you have a balcony). And "Monkey Wards"! I haven't heard that in forever. Thanks for the memory, Clay!

Drying clothes outside is best! It makes me angry knowing many neighborhoods don’t allow it. It may be a lost art! A few tips: hang jeans/pants from the hems. Leaving the waist area to hang free means it will dry sooner & with fewer wrinkles - Inside out might work better for some with pockets exposed to the breeze. Same with shirts. Hang by hems & fold the shirt as if on a hanger - I tug on the placket & collar to minimize wrinkles. Hang Uncle Joe’s underwear on an inside line out of sight! Hang sheets & blankets over 2-3 lines for better air circulation. We bought a large drying rack from Lehmans for quick-drying undies & wintertime. We have lines strung up inside for winter & rainy times. So many advantages! You are saving a lot of electricity, and not throwing away handfuls of your clothing from the dryer lint catcher.

Here in Europe “ Ireland “. We all dry outdoors despite our high rainfall, But we do have to air them after indoors or. Quick. In a tumble dryer , I don’t understand why people in hot states in America don’t dry out doors , using high amounts of energy to dry clothes in a dryer ?. You end up clothes sitting watching out for rain to bolt out and grab the clothes . better air dryed clothes than in a tumble dryer , ruins most clothes .

I can't wait to get a laundry line on my new place. Hanging laundry is also helpful in that you are more likely to look at your clothes closely and see repairs that need to be done. Most people just shove clothes into a washing machine, then into a dryer, and then grab armloads out of the dryer. By hanging on a line, you're more likely to tears, rips, or missing buttons.

I liked hanging out clothes in the 50's. Dad was a teacher so his work pants were dressier than jeans. Mom used pants stretchers while they dried which saved ironing out a lot of wrinkles. But during the winter the pants came back in frozen and stiff on the stretchers. It DID save the time of re-sprinkling them in the days before steam irons.

@FyNyth It is still usable. I just have to make sure that I put the long stuff on the correct sides and keep checking to make sure the wind doesn't change. It's also a good incentive to keep the lawn mowed around it.😁 I also hang towels lengthwise and fold up sheets before I hang 'em. A little more work, but it's so worth it! That and my solar camping panel keeps my electric bill down.

Just a little tip: the plastic tube below ground level invariably gets water in it over time, and even if your metal pole is galvanised steel it will inevitably rust over time, You can prevent that (or at least substantially slow that down) by lightly greasing the lower metal pole both outside and INSIDE (with a rag on a stick). Only go up to ground level on the outside, so avoid transfer to your washing,

I love air drying my clothe sonly way I dry my clothes I love the smell of clothing air dried no duplicating that smell with chemicals. I do get behind in my wash in teh summer and spring when it is raining a lot . I just use a pully that attaches to a tree and my house . I need it to be off the ground by lot because of ticks and animals so mine is about 15 feet off teh ground maybe taller. There is a city in MA that has outlawed clothesline LOL will never live there

I hang my laundry when I can. I love the smell of laundry that's been hanging in the sunshine. That's a really nice hanging rack. I'm assuming it's the deluxe model? I might have missed that in the video.

gobsmacked that these are new to you, they're pretty much much standard in the UK. Washing dries out side in summer and on a pulley over the Aga in winter.

This is a new item I've not personally owned before. I grew up hanging wash on a line through my whole childhood including lots of cloth diapers from younger siblings. And even in apartments or town home rentals we put a line somewhere inside since, sadly, rules prohibited outdoor laundry drying. It's just exciting to finally have our own property where we can do stuff like this!

They explained at the beginning that they will need to move it when they build their house so they cannot use concrete. It's very stable the way they installed it without concrete, though.

If I had a line in my apartment complex, I would still be hanging my clothes on the line.I remember when Davis California banned clothes lines back in the 80s or 90s and now California has a bill that makes it a citizen's right to hang out their clothes again. I figured eventually Davis would wake up to how stupid it had been for them to ban lines in the first place. You just can't beat the smell and feel of line dried fabric.

No way to get a rectangular blade into the thick mat of grass roots. Even the pointed shovel is pretty difficult.
