Hi everyone, not much to tell really, but I'm just an old soul who is out of step with the rest of the world, with my passion for old oil lanterns, old cars and appliances of the 19th and 20th century. Just good honest fun, information on care, restoration and what to look for, when shopping for an antique or vintage kerosene lantern!

You mentioned modifying the burners to stabilize the flame, can you do a video on that?
My great-grandfather was in the sixth naval Beach battalion he arrived in the second wave on omaha at 830am on the fox green sector of the beach he was a radio operator he wasn't on the beach long only for about 30 minutes or so by 9:00 in the morning they had DD tank support and they were able to take wn-60 he survived he passed away in 2013
I just got one of these in a 3 for $25 combo on fb marketplace. Unbelievably lucky
You're a real patriot !!!!!!!
Rayo Rob, I can't get the burner out of my Shapleigh Norleigh Diamond. Can I insert a new wick from the top down ?? Great Videoes !!!!
Surprised they were still trying the match hole thing that late. Maybe the matches of the time flared up a bit more than the ones made today
Have you ever used a pin lite to check for holes? Thank you for the video. I got an email from Woody Kirkman and plan to order a shade for the #2 Blizzard, raw of course.
I loved your close, Rob. We do need to come together and I hope it's soon. God Bless America.
happy 4th! maybe the hand dipped matches of the day had much more of a flare up time.
Love the lantern selection with the globes 😊
Happy Patriots Day 😊😊😊
Lol i like the let down music 😂
Thank you, sir. I was wondering why my father had what appeared to be an Air Pilot but was stamped Richards & Conover Howe. That explains a lot. Many thanks.
My Embury Air Pilot 2 is stamped Elgin. There was an Elgin Hardware Company in Elgin, Oregon. I've always seen them painted red that over time becomes more orange. These are robustly made lanterns and mine, fortunately, has a Embury #30 globe. Thank you for the video.
Great video .. enjoy the history lessons
God I love those fancy lanterns with copper/brass font and crown ! Thanks for making this video!
I found a Dietz Gem it's rough and yes I got it cheap when you get a chance Maa little history if you please tanx 😅😊
How old's the one on the left, Rob? It looks just like mine.
that Norleigh Diamond with the copper font is really nice!
Aye...yer a right Lovejoy Antiques
I just came by a ‘42 Wizard because it had an inverted #10 Embury globe that is now installed in my grandfather’s Embury Little Supreme 150. The Little Wizard my grandfather had replaced the Embury globe with, probably before I was born, is now in the Little Wizard.
Great video Rob!
Thank you for making these videos! We were cleaning out a garage a few years ago and we found some kerosene lamps, including a no2 cold blast. I didn’t look into what it was for a bit but I cleaned it up and put it on a shelf. But I finally got curious and mine looks exactly like this one. So I finally have some answers!
These are great lanterns. We used an Elgin recently on a camp trip. Mine is completely original with bleached red paint which I suspect is original. Put out plenty of lumens.
I have a old dietz little wizard. Can't get it to stop smoking. Changed fuel and wick 2 times. Any suggestions
Maybe lot of soot in your chimney? .. run your wick low ..if you have wick out far it will smoke and soot your glass
Where can a find a burner for 1 ..
Crazy loc nob .. why didn't I think of twisting globe to remove .. thanks for video
Always appreciate your lantern knowledge. I’ve noticed that my preference is for the ‘20’s through early ‘50’s lanterns. I just found an Embury #10 globe in a Dietz. Those globes are hard to find
I just picked one up yesterday really nice condition for 20 bucks .. I really like the lift design and wires ..the bad the bail drops fast and smacks the glass
Soldering isn't a really difficult skill, but it does require practice. A weekend class would teach you all you need to know to start building your skills, and you'd be a few steps ahead of me since I'm self-taught.
I had a suitcase that ended up looking like your regulator. It had fallen off the baggage tug at the airport and was run over by one of the trailing carts. I worked for the airlines at the time, and they gave me a replacement. By the way, part of the 6 to 12 volts changeover had to do with the savings in materials and weight. A smaller gauge wire at the higher voltage will carry the same current ssfely. In fact, many aircraft use 24 volt for additional weight savings. Finally, I have a 6 volt positive ground system on my 50's Oliver 550 tractor.
Thank you for lighting the dash lantern.
So the ham cb with beaded chimney would have originally had a #0 globe?
I love the dash and wagon lanterns! How are folks polishing their reflectors just lots of sanding and clear coat? Or oiling them/ wax?
Another good resource for old Regulators is New Old Stock Allstate / Sears and Roebuck they made quite a few Regulators that were Universal but it allowed you to adjust the amount of current that generator put out so would work with many different vehicles. I've stocked up on a few over the years just because seem to work great even after many years
I'll agree with your problem with parts I work on old cars for a living and so many things are defective or halfway ready to install a lot of file, machine and Fiddle to make them work.
Yep I've done the same thing as a young firefighter I put my radio scanner on the roof and proceeded to drive away and I heard a thunk looked at the mirror and it fell into the busiest road in Lafayette and proceeded to disassemble itself!
Got that exact globe, same patent dates, came with a berger apex dash lantern I had bought. Ended up putting it in a ct ham pin lift dash lantern.
I like the proportions of the sg&l better than the dietz. The dietz royal looks a little bottom heavy to the eye which is part of the charm but overall, the sg&l just seems more balanced. Tall and proud.
Well done, Rob. 👍
thank you! :)
Nice tribute had 3 uncles in that war Army Navy Army Aircorps 💜 lest we never forget 🙏 😊
absolutely, respect and love to those who served!
Where can I get a new wick?
Thank you for your information. I wanted a Blizzard to complete the varieties I like and found a nice one yesterday.
You should have saved those peanuts so you could ship that Buhl 275 to me... :)
<<<self-proclaimed good person.
I appreciate your reverence for the past.
When I find them in that condition I don't mess with it. I love it. But most of my lanterns are in need of serious repair. Then. I do feel the need to paint.
Sad.
Sorry Rob about in n out this week, those people are still harassing over
Dietz is the only one I've found manufacturing dates so far was there any others. I'm still a little newer at this I've got 25 lanterns in my collection the oldest confirmed 1930 so for me your channel is a most enlightening channel 😅😊
