Great video Rob, I have soldered electronics components since the early 1980’s. If you want a better and stronger solder joint use a little but of paste flux from the plumbing aisle.just a dab will do it, then you can clean it off with a toothbrush and some alcohol. A hot solder iron tip that is properly tinned would make it perfect. A larger soldering gun would not be expensive and would work well for tinned metal. You could practice on an old parts lantern and soon you will be very good at this!

Thanks for the informative video on the Dietz OK. I stopped in at a flea market up here in central Ca awhile back and there was a Dietz Ok at the first table for $15.00. It’s now a duplicate in the collection.

I always figured it was blown glass that was blown in a two piece mold.

Maybe look for a old-school blacksmith who could teach you soldering because they would understand the old soldering material 😉 😊

If a globe has seams and is embossed I would say it is pressed glass. Think about how hard it would be to put loc-nobs on blown glass.

Soldering isn't a really difficult skill, but it does require practice. A weekend class would teach you all you need to know to start building your skills, and you'd be a few steps ahead of me since I'm self-taught.
