Great video Rob!
Thank you for lighting the dash lantern.
I had a suitcase that ended up looking like your regulator. It had fallen off the baggage tug at the airport and was run over by one of the trailing carts. I worked for the airlines at the time, and they gave me a replacement. By the way, part of the 6 to 12 volts changeover had to do with the savings in materials and weight. A smaller gauge wire at the higher voltage will carry the same current ssfely. In fact, many aircraft use 24 volt for additional weight savings. Finally, I have a 6 volt positive ground system on my 50's Oliver 550 tractor.
Yep I've done the same thing as a young firefighter I put my radio scanner on the roof and proceeded to drive away and I heard a thunk looked at the mirror and it fell into the busiest road in Lafayette and proceeded to disassemble itself!
Always appreciate your lantern knowledge. I’ve noticed that my preference is for the ‘20’s through early ‘50’s lanterns. I just found an Embury #10 globe in a Dietz. Those globes are hard to find
Another good resource for old Regulators is New Old Stock Allstate / Sears and Roebuck they made quite a few Regulators that were Universal but it allowed you to adjust the amount of current that generator put out so would work with many different vehicles. I've stocked up on a few over the years just because seem to work great even after many years
Got that exact globe, same patent dates, came with a berger apex dash lantern I had bought. Ended up putting it in a ct ham pin lift dash lantern.
I'll agree with your problem with parts I work on old cars for a living and so many things are defective or halfway ready to install a lot of file, machine and Fiddle to make them work.
I love the dash and wagon lanterns! How are folks polishing their reflectors just lots of sanding and clear coat? Or oiling them/ wax?
So the ham cb with beaded chimney would have originally had a #0 globe?
