Belle of the Ball: B-17 Flying Fortress "Movie Belle"

Hey friends, hope your week is going smoothly!
Took an unexpected trip out to see Josh, and decided we should make a video, while we visited Palm Springs Air Museum! Yes, that IS the B-17 used in the 1991 film, "Memphis Belle" so great to see her, and be near such an important plane not only because of what it represents, but what it represents for me, as a 12-13 year old boy, just sinking his teeth into WWII history.

You forgot to point out that the engines on the other wing are left cyclones.

Look up history of tha 50 mission crush hat using this. Pretty accurate explanation from what I was told by my father... 2nd-lt-robert-l-westholm-it-began-with-a-hat. I am heading to San Diego tomorrow to visit a son there. Not likely to have time to go to Palm Springs, but that would be a great trip...

The flaps that are around the engines are for a cooling they can be open and closed to regulate the engine temperature.

oh right! Yeah, I wasn't sure what my buddy was talking about, he was addressing the fins on the pistons and I thought he was talking about the cowl flaps. LoL But, yes, you're correct, they were for cooling, not air brakes. ;)

I actually got a chance to work on a version of one of those engines Shvetsov ASh-62. It was in a Russian AN2 biplane they built a version of the right cyclone radial 1820. Quiet an airplane world's largest single-engine production biplane. With a thousand horsepower it gets your attention!

@@wilco3588 oh yes, those are unique aircraft! I saw one at an airshow...something else! And to my recollection, they were still being manufactured into the 1990s?
