Cooking Polish

Cooking Polish

Cooking Polish dishes can be challenging, especially in the beginning. My name is Natasha and I grew up in Poland, where I learned how to cook under my grandmother’s watchful eye. After college, I moved to the U.S. and quickly discovered there were many people out here who have Polish roots but no idea how to cook the dishes they grew up with. I hope this channel helps you reconnect with that part of your heritage. Was your babcia Polish? Do you have a Polish spouse? Perhaps you too, moved to another country and find it hard to adjust your favorite Polish recipes to realities of a strange grocery store. This channel is for you.

    That gravy looks delicious but is much too thin for my liking. Rather than saving the duck's feet and boiling those, I feel like I'd just add an unflavored gelatin packet before reducing. Cheers

    Excellent video! Yes the red cabbage and onion peel ones are the best looking ones and so easy to make. Instead of feathers, you could put paraley leaves for example. And traditionally, instead of oil, we rub them with lard to make them shine.

    What are the herbs & measurements of the ingredients?

  • @cookingpolish
    @cookingpolish Жыл бұрын

    Hello! All ingredients are labeled at the beginning of the video. You’re probably asking about caraway seeds? Measurements you can kind of observe while watching the video too, but honestly, as opposed to baking a cake, making soup doesn’t require exact measurements. You can see that 5 potatoes are used but you can use 4 or 6. Use as much bacon you wish, add as much or as little sauerkraut as you prefer, or just eye ball it, taste add more if necessary. One head of cabbage, one onion, caraway seeds to taste. Add as much stock as needed to turn it into a soup like consistency- start with 4 cups and go from there. I hope this helps. Happy cooking!

    Hello! The house is fantastic, you did a great job! I have one question though, what kind of molasses did you use? Was it the corn one? Thank you!

  • @cookingpolish
    @cookingpolish Жыл бұрын

    I use sugarcane unsulphured molasses. My favorite brand is Grandma’s. When I lived in Poland I used sugar beet molasses or honey.

    Oh my goodness this is lovely! How many batches of dough did you use for this recipe? I drew up a template for a house that looks like it's a similar size, and I'm trying to figure out how much I need to make 🙂.

  • @cookingpolish
    @cookingpolish Жыл бұрын

    I’m not entirely sure… hmmmm….I made two double batches first, I think that took care of the walls for the most part. Then I made another double batch for the roof and fencing. I didn’t make all the dough at once because my fridge was too full. Lol
