Hi John! Marugame Castle is one of "Nihon 100 Meijo" or Japan's 100 finest castles. Also one of 12 castles with the original "tenshu" or castle tower. There are only 12 original castle towers still existing in Japan, and Marugame Castle is one of them. So it is pretty cool you filmed it.

Wait, I thought that the salmon was called Shiobiki, not Iyoboya (apologies if that's not what do said). I learned about it from an aunt who lives in Murakami

To be honest, I’ve heard so many regional usages of the word but also different styles tomorrow it change the word too. “Shio” means salt so I assume it’s this particular style but I’m a beginner at Murakami salmon and hope they invite me back for the season someday. It’s a fascinating part of Niigata!

It is Japanese TV reporting this. How is it not “fair” to discuss it? I think what Japabeee news is discussing should also be considered by the people whom it will impact. Is that bad? Raising prices for tourists is not a good idea. Visitor voices should be heard so officials can make good judgements.

Definitely ANA. It’s always a tier ahead of JAL but both offer a great experience. After another JAL pilot came in drunk in Dallas recently, I question their company culture a lot 😢 but they’ll pull it together. Never had a bad experience with them personally.

Marugame Udon restaurants have nothing to do with the original Marugame udon. Taste is different and people from Marugame dislike them for stealing the name. As far as I know there is no franchise restaurant in Marugame. (Used to have one but closed it down because of lack of customer)

About $30,000 I believe. I’ll be back in August for a follow up. The water heater was the biggest cost, locals helped take the garbage and refuse from inside, one farmer helped burn the weed and branches. They’re the youngest family in the area too 😂 but it’s changing, more people will return as the city life gets tiring. Seems very cyclical as long as there are new businesses coming in too - which is slow going.

If Japan wants to recoup the possible Billions lost during the pandemic and country lockdown then it really does need to come up with Tourist control solutions, otherwise they are missing out on all that Tourist Cash. I shall be coming to Japan in October of this year myself and intend to spend my hard earned money enjoying this beautiful and cultured Country, so different from my own.😎

As a long-term resident in Japan, I'd like to know if Daryl got an inspection to determine the house's abilty to withstand earthquakes. If you have seen the photos from Ishikawa, you'd recognize that old can be beautiful but deadly in an earthquake. Wish them well in their endeavors!

the bench on tatami is a no-go. Also love how he ducks every time he passes through a doorway. The problem is that the house adds absolutely NOTHING of value to the property. In fact, the value of the property is inverse to the value of the property minus the cost of tearing it down. It would be worth more without a house on it.

It's no the initial cost but the costs to renovation to meet building code. There are dilapidated housing all over and cheap. But in renovation the costs are often enormous and often better to tear down rather than try and save. But that often isn't option to tear down in Japan and why costs so much and why hoyses are just abandoned

Kyoto has lost its authenticity. It has become a carnival sideshow for tourists. I went there and hated it because there were too many tourists. It doesnt feel like the cultural heart of the country anymore. Its a theme park for foreign tourists.

  • @jermaineb4892

Tourists are our guests, sir, But, guests should respect the hosts also. Tourists are inflicting a great deal of unnecessary costs to the country. Vandalism , property destruction , littering, massive increase for importing extra food and the costs are past down to the residents who LIVE here. These tourists are gone in two weeks but leave a hefty financial footprint long after they are gone that residents have to pay yearly. So , I wholeheartedly support any additional costs imposed on them. Respect is a two way way street and we definitely receive it here from tourists. What about the costs we have to pay to literally clean up after them.

  • @jermaineb4892

Why is two-tier pricing controversial?? It is called making a profit off visitors who will be here two weeks and never come back. Being an American, DisneyWorld charges a higher rate for tourists and Florida residents paying less. ITS NOTHING NEW!. Its capitalism. Foreign tourists are here in Japan to exploit Japan for the declining JPY. But, Japan cant exploit foreign tourists??? Hypocrisy. America has been always doing this. Tourists should get over it, dont go to these sights, or dont come here. If they are paying in USD, they still save even if they pay more. Please stop crying and stop ruining Japan. Just enjoy your stay . As residents, we shouldnt have to pay more constantly after tourists do their damage and go home.

Base on feng shui, he has a lot of big doors on the back and a small one in a door in front. What does it means? He won't able to hold on to his $$. Which mean it's a $$ draining house. Solution, do not get rear door bigger than front door and reduce the rear door to one.
