Matsumoto Castle 8K Walking View | 425 Year Old Building

Ойын-сауық

Where is Matsumoto Castle (松本城) MAP: goo.gl/maps/yPe74isdF9h38KqG8
The castle has been in use since 1596 which is pretty incredible. When the Meiji government took over, they wanted to destroy all old feudal samurai-era buildings including this castle but it was preserved by locals and not a symbol of Nagano and Japan. You can't film inside the castle but it's permitted to take video from the top and around the outside. Admission: 700 yen ($6.50) for adults

Gosh, my creaky knees suffered climbing up the steep, giant steps at the castle entrance, and the steep stairs inside. Super breathless when I reached the top. Going down, it was a squat-sit-climb down… like a toddler, or a duck… LOL! It was so fun! 😅😂 I agree, the castle (the wood interior, view at the top level, and black exterior) and surrounding garden were peaceful and beautiful.

Matsumoto Castle is so superb. The best castle that I could see in California is located at the Japan Center Mall near Kinokuniya bookstore in San Francisco. But this Matsumoto Castle looks so original and magnificent in 8K video. Thank you, John.

Darn, I missed this video. You're basically following the same path I did back in 2017 with my wife... Kurobe Dam and then Matsumoto Castle. It is a really lovely place! In fact my youtube picture was taken with a ''Ninja'' there in front of Matsumoto castle! One of the local organisation there had local people guiding you and telling you the story of the place :)... was really nice to have our own personal guide. The stone foundations, the view from the top and from the gardens...the wooden beams and the floors etc.. it's a really nice place to visit!

I was so worried before you went in! I knew of the steep stairs and if you’re balancing the camera and climbing is terrifying. Thank you for trying at least and showing us the amazing monument of Japanese history! Your hard work is not wasted. These videos are invaluable. Video note: this video’s audio is a little quieter than the others. On my TV it’s 10 decimals lower. I only noticed because the midway ads blew my ears off. Haha!

Loved Matsumoto. We went there on a very comfortable train, had a nice chat with a gentleman who spoke excellent English. It was lovely to see all the little villages as we crossed the mountains and every one of them with an array of solar panels. Matsumoto has so many great places to eat, to have lunch after visiting the castle. Our favourite was this French bakery in Nawate Dori, Sweet Co. I had the best seafood chowder, served in hollowed-out round loaf of the most magnificent bread. Mmmm I’m still savouring it!

My favorite Japanese castle. I've been there many times - the ones that stand out the most were seeing it in the snow; watching a hologram show with the images created above the water in the moat; and getting to see a performance of Takigi Noh (a Noh drama at night with torches used for lighting) taking place just outside the castle walls.

I had visited the castle on a clear day in October 2019 and got stuck during Typhoon Hagabis for a few more days because all the trains had stopped or were underwater. I eventually caught a very long bus ride with one pitstop to Nagoya after waiting in a long line. Kinda crazy that time. Getting to the top of the castle on the uneven stairwell was not easy but the view was worth it. I took pictures from the top even though there were no photography signs. I have high regards for the samurais running around in the castle.

  • @onlyinjapanGO

    2 жыл бұрын

Hmm 🤔 probably not I think they don’t because this place gets a ton of visitors. I don’t think saving 20% would make people want to go more. It’s very small and narrow walking the old steps. I’d hate to visit if it were even more crowded. Matsue doesn’t get nearly as many foreign visitors. I can see the reason for incentives. Actually when I went in 2017, I just had to show my residence cards saying I was American to get a good discount at Matsue Castle!
