Of all the KZreadrs I follow John is the only one who streams from baths or without clothing. It’s definitely John’s competitive advantage.

The calligraphy scroll behind John in this room is written so beautifully. Every kanji on that scroll is in its traditional ancient form which most of the Chinese mainlanders born after the Culture Revolution (1966 - 1976) could unfortunately no longer read. But the traditional characters are still being taught in every school in Taiwan and some in Japan.

Can't wait to see and hear the responses to the upcoming questions regarding how this business/hotel was able to survive all these centuries. You have a great list of questions. We followed your advice to book onset ryokan hotels for our travel in November when Japan opened up again for foreign tourists. The one at Lake Kawaguchi even had a viewing location on the roof from which we were able to get sunrise views of Mount Fuji. The one at Arima Onsen village above Kobe surprised us in the morning when we slid open the wall panels to reveal a window that opened to spectacular fall colored leaves. As you reported the food was equally memorable as it was almost like having a private chef. Your early advice is worth repeating - book early as the onsen ryokan hotels are often already booked months in advance and thanks to your prodding we lucked out on finding what turned out to be the last available rooms

Wow! What a beautiful (and old) ryokan. Thanks for taking us along. Completely agree with you that if you’re spending all that money to travel half way around the world to come to Japan, you really should do Onsen at least once.

Why not spend on yourself if you have the means. Loving one’s self is vital so you continue to help others. Live Japan and will try to check on this one too. Thanks for sharing.

Amazing location, John! Adding this to my list. Definitely a "splurge" hotel. Perhaps to celebrate your 50th wedding anniversary, or a honeymoon, or just a getaway from the grind of working a 80 hour week! It looks like it is worth every penny you pay! ❤ I can't wait to see the interview, and I hope it will be shared on OIJ channel. But I do have a question. Was the deleted scene edited by you, or did youtube edit the scene out. 🤔😂 Inquiring minds want to know... Oh man...this is what happens when I miss a live! 🤪

Great video, thanks for sharing! I will definitely visit that hotel someday in the future. ...I had my first onsen experience last month in Hakone: I rented a house through Airbnb that had a real, licensed hot spring onsen! It was incredible. The water came out of the tap at 158 degrees, which of course is much too hot. So I had to cool it down before entering. It was incredibly relaxing. I plan on going back next year when I return to Japan. There are a few Airbnbs in Hakone that have licensed hot springs, and several others that have onsen that are not connected to the famous hot springs of the region. So make sure you read the fine print, or ask the host if the onsen is connected to a licensed hot spring.

I stayed at Nakanoshima hotel in Kii Katsuura below Wakayama with my wife last week. It was fantastic and cost around 37,000 yen per person. The food was absolutely fantastic. We stayed at that hotel for one night and then a cheaper hotel in the area the next night. It was well worth it and I never spoil myself normally. The area was nice and warm during the day around 13 degrees C.

15:33 that is the best way to take good photographs of Mt.Fuji . Rent a car . On first pass Drive till a appropriate junction , mark it and then return to that same junction & take good photographs of Mt. Fuji . Silly idea though 😊

Some people do get UTIs from bathing over showering but otherwise I agree; it's soothing. I live in southern Idaho which is very volcanic but lived in Utah for 3 years where there are only 3 hot springs in the entire state.
