Interurban Era is a channel that weaves together learning about history using digital and analog scale models. I specialize in 20th century industrial history but branch out across the sciences, culture and much more.
The Joy of Kitbashing - A Scale Modeling Series
Follow along as I put together, paint, letter and weather scale models to make them look real. Often informed by extensive research these models, usually railroad models, you'll learn about why the real equipment exists.
Layout Construction Series
I'm building multiple model railroads for myself & clients in the region that I live. Follow along as we build a variety of different layouts, exploring new construction techniques and enjoying the process of bringing an empty spare room into a gorgeous miniature world.
PRESIDIO BAY - A Cities Skylines series.
It is currently in a pre-production phase for the rest of the first series. A lot of prep is needed before the next part debuts.

If you're interested in adding another PB steam generator to the roster, I have one I'm looking to part with that's painted PRR and has the original box. Also for the Kato RSC-2s do you plan to leave them with the air cooled turbocharger stack position or will you change them to the water cooker turbocharger position? Stacks that were mounted parallel to the carbody were air cooled while ones mounted perpendicular were water cooled and it seems pretty much every railroad with the air cooled had them rebuilt to water cooled not long after delivery
6:53 I think you should do it in the 1955 scheme shown earlier in the video. Since it would be one of the first, I think it'd be cool to represent the earlier days of diesel on the Alta
Excellent job!! Is very difficult to find someone outside Mexico modelling NdeM, my channel is in spanish with many NdeM models.
Thank you for taking the time to make this good video! Charles Ro has these for $249, a great price. I have never bought from them before but am really tempted.
All model railroaders have that yellow ACY box car.
I feel it's a requirement along with the state of maine boxcar and at least one "super shock control" santa fe car
Nice collection
oh the alco pas. . . i have enough braincells to appreciate it even as a not-really-train person. . .
What was the total client cost for your time and materials?
Project is still ongoing, so that's TBD! If you're interested in hiring me to build you a layout or help with one, send me an email or DM me on Instagram.
Like to see them rsc2s complete
Something is not quite right with the esthetics of the Piko ML-4000 compared to the Rivarossi 1960's example.
I have these all different numbers.😊
Little update on my s1, as it turns out the poor drive gears are cracked and annoyingly they are out of stock everywhere I can think of. As I don't have access to 3d printers or other ways of making them, I intend to swap around the wheels so the geared wheels that aren't cracked have power and the cracked ones are idlers till I can find new parts. Great vid!🎉
New Piko models are absolutely top notch! They really look after even the smallest details.
I'm so excited to see steam power! I love freelance steamers!
GP40 looks AMAZING
Thank you SO much Jeremy! It means a lot. It was such a pleasure to bring it to life, and I'm forever thankful it's your GP40 being one of the prides of my fleet.
You did a fabulous job, especially with the touch-up paint job and weathering. 🤩
the C624 in that scheme and weathered up looks like perfection. I think some former SP alcos in Alta paint, would look great too, with all those cool lighting packages.
Can't wait to see what the ALCo DL500B (NSWGR 44/CR/ANR 930) will look like
I always look forward to your videos. The time and effort you put into your layout and rolling stock is amazing
Alta has a DOODLEBUG?! Now my favorite line! (it was before.... but the reasons were purely personal, I assure you!)
This is a very well-done fictional railway company and you should be proud of your achievement; it almost makes me want to completely change scale and prototype to make my own! Looking forward to the steam and rollingstock videos, and especially more on the ALCO RSC-2s: as a New South Welshman I've seen our preserved 4001 in royal blue a couple times, and that's a similar RSC-3 (I think).
The alco c625 would be nice to see a video
I have a video dedicated specifically to the C625 in the works. I plan to build a second unit if I can score a sound equipped model for a good price soon...
I had that container crane in a tyco train set.The Silver Streck a alco locomotive with a stream lined caboose.A lot of play value.
It's a really fun accessory! I want to set it up, paint & weather it to look realistic and have fun with it.
You have an interesting line-up.
Thank you! Make sure to check out part 1 to see the completed models as well!
the HH660 should be in the citrus paint
This is probably one of the most realistic fictional railroads I’ve ever seen. Great job on all aspects of this world, worldbuilding, locomotives, locations, etc. this is absolutely Amazing.
Thank you so much! That means a lot. I cannot wait to share with you all the fantastic models I'm working on at the moment as well. so stay tuned.
@@InterurbanEra you’re welcome! As a huge fan of west coast railroading, this project really scratches my never ending itch for West coast railroading of any sort, California, Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, etc. I have been on a massive ATSF, SP, and UP kick as of late which led to me purchasing an M.T.H. G SCALE (ONE GAUGE) SP GS-2 4-8-4 #4413. My main model railroad gauge I do is G scale, I just love my model trains bigger and better!
@@aaronprewitt344 That sounds spectacular! I had no idea that a No.1 gauge GS-2 existed. That has to be the ultimate toy. Do you have a nice garden railroad to run it?
@@InterurbanEra Thanks! Yes, they do exist, and MTH did one in SP Black #4413, BNSF Excursion Black #4449, WP Black #486, SP Daylight #4449, and AFT #4449. It is the ultimate toy, and I’ll love it till the day I die! No, I don’t have a garden railroad, but I do have a small indoor loop layout. The engine cannot run under track power as for whatever reason it’s missing electrical pickups. I can however run the engine on rollers using the tender’s pickups and wiring the engine up to the tender. I’ll have to look into getting an MTH TIU (Train interface unit) and a place to put the receiver (probably in a boxcar behind the tender) if I actually want to run it. It’s an amazing gift from one of my closest friends at my train club, Del Oro Pacific Modular Railroad. Bless his soul, he’s an amazing, kind, wise, wonderful, and humble person. I have a Facebook account if you want to see #4413 and many other train related posts. My account is know as Aaron Prewitt (my irl name)
Hey interurban era! I’m in Sacramento right now, and have already visited the California State railroad museum. Anyway, my G scale SP GS-2 is such an amazing toy! I wouldn’t trade it for the world, it’s the best G scale model I have by far. I don’t have a garden railroad to run it, but I can run it on rollers only, as the locomotive for whatever reason has no electrical pickups. I can still run it with sounds and smoke on rollers, and even that alone is a show in itself!
I am very excited for the steam video!
It's going to be great. There's so many unusual projects and some locomotives that'll be iconic additions to the roster as well.
Im looking at making a C625 for my Winchester Valley you gave me inspiration
It's such a satisfying and easy kitbash to do. When you've completed your model, please send me a link so I can enjoy the work you've done.
I kinda wanna know the story of the Export unit. Like how did it end up running on the Alta
It has a REALLY good backstory, which I'll be sharing up on Patreon first, and again in refined form when I produce a video about the model itself.
That FP-45 will look killer in the '68 scheme! My favorite so far has to be the ALCo PA, the detail is really well done, and the magenta and orange really stand out. Thanks! Can't wait for more.
I'm very excited to paint up the first F45, since it's the most iconic locomotive of the ALTA concept in the Mexico68 scheme. The PA has been a joy to put together as well.
A have a Undeck Kato FA-2 however it is missing it’s truck covers I’m willing to sell it to you for cheap as I planed to throw it out
Wow, what a great roster. I have one of those Walthers NW2s and it runs beautifully, even with its cheapo factory sound decoder. The drive is great, being basically a Proto 2000 switcher drive, and my compliments go out to Walthers for putting this drive in its switchers. Looking forward to the next installment, and I can't wait to see where that Budd RDC-6 comes out!
Strongly agree about the proto switchers. They managed to improve them quite a bit too with the cast frame/walkways on the new models as well. What a great improvement. The Loksound sounds great, and probably even moreso after I put a scale sound systems speaker in it.
Love the 1955 scheme! Quick question, do you get your rolling stock ordered from a manufacturer in batches so you have a bunch of different numbers of the same spec or do you do them yourself?
All of the finished ALTA units are custom painted by hand by me. I designed the decals and sent them off to a decal printer to be made, and then I used an airbrush and masking tape to paint up each unit. That said, I'd love to have a batch of ALTA units made from a model railroad manufacturer sometime soon.
@@InterurbanEra I meant the boxcars (I assume they're made the same way) and stuff but that would be cool too!
That 1955 scheme looks really good.
😊 Refreshing to see a locomotive review by somebody with an actual layout ...... Superb work Sir
This means a lot! Thank you so much. Stick around for more locomotive reviews and more scenery on the layout as it comes together.
I guess you are referring about sam trains
@@gamerfan8445 amongst others ... we have a few here in Australia too - sadly many do not seem to know much about the prototype as well.... C'est le vie
Dang I need to get you to do a Kitbash for me
I have a sd45 but it’s a operator and in the SCL Black with yellow stripes
When will you add GEVOS to your roster those are the real "most powerful locomotives"
Same
I agree
Hi
🤪🤪🤪🤪
Hmmm yes sigma
