Handmade fishing lures have a long and rich history. My goal is to continue that tradition of craftsmanship by combining the old and new. Join me as we transform an ordinary block of wood into a beautiful work of functional art. We might even catch a few fish along the way!

I gotta try to make one and put some 20/0 hooks on the bottom
I learned how making Lures or poppers so No not thing about Lures or poppers making. I rod wrapping more then 30 years. I used clear coat for flex coat the rods i fine to prevent airbubbles or thickness I used small amount of acetone into the clear coat while mixing.
Little question : why jump from volume to grams? As the specific weight of water is not the same as resin you will have more resin than needed.
Belo 🎉
Do you not use any leader? Aren't there both pike and musky in your waters? Over here almost everyone use a leader, even the perch hunters, most of them. Just because they don't want to loose their 15$ plastic bait. Yours bait is a Picasso, I would hang myself if I had lost it. I'm in Sweden btw. Love you very explanatory videos, great info for me as I'm venturing into building baits. I'll probably go the resin route, pouring them baits. Have some such experience so feels more correct than carving every bait. Looking comment!! Anyway love your vids keep on going, with a fluorocarbon leader!! //JK
Can you make a jointed swimming crayfish lure, so it undulates as it swims like a dolpin swims? So up and down and not side to side. Of course crayfish swim backwards too
Alucinante yo los hago de madera y me gustaría sacar copias de mis trabajos me podrías decir dónde podría comprar los materiales q estas utilizando y q envíen a españa gracias un saludo
What model of band saw do you use? garcias wuey
What clay do u use
Hola! Muchas gracias por compartir tus videos!!! Te hago una consulta: la resina que usas para rellenar el señuelo es resina epoxi, resina de poliester o resina de poliuretano? Gracias nuevamente
Inventive solutions 👍
Niiiiice.... artistic ❤❤❤
Where do you get your molds? Or do you make them yourself?
Grat work 👍👍👍
Using the rough finger grip of the exacto knife was a great idea. That grip on the knife is called knurling
Good video but your drill and chisel work give me anxiety 😂😂super scketchy but your final result is great and you still have your fingers
Ha! Thanks! I think it looks more sketchy on video than it really is.
I sure would like to purchase some of your lures my friend is there any way that's possible sir
Thank you for your interest. Unfortunately, I do not make lures for sale because I just don't have time. I do appreciate your support!
How do you transfer the gill pattern from the paper to the lure
Great question! You draw your pattern on one side, then tape it drawing side to the window. The window acts as a makeshift light box so you can draw the pattern again on the back side of the paper. Then when you put it on the lure and draw over it again it will transfer the graphite to the lure. Thanks for watching!
Pearlized whit you use from createx ? I have problem with createx wicked pearl white - on airbrush with 0.5 needle. How many reducer do you use ?
I also have problems with the wicked colors. I usually add around 30% reducer to get it to spray properly.
I have problem too with wicked metallic white coarse - white fine is susowi for painting
I love this video! Do you think it could be scaled up to 8 or 9 inches? I fish in SW Florida and would like to try and make a big topwater to target larger snook. Thanks!
You bet! I have an 8" WTD that I made in another video. It requires a bigger rod to cast it, but it works just the same. Thanks for watching and commenting!
U should ise filter like nd filter so we can see it better
Great suggestion, I will look into that. Thanks!
@zimmtex or try a cpl filter sorry forgot about it
Leather is a horrible material for fishing lures but I am sure you figured that out by now.
This has held up pretty good so far. When it eventually gives out, I'll just drill the hole out and epoxy another piece in. You do need to be careful to seal the hole because leather will let water into the wood.
what wood used
Basswood
I consider this bait a work of art. Congratulations on the excellent work.
Thank you very much!
What kind of epoxy do you use to hold the wire in place
I like two part epoxy by BSI.
Thanks, and what kind of wire are you using? Is it somethisng special made for lures?
That’s a Hell of a Job!! Usted es un Teso mi hermano!
Thank you!
what size hole are you drilling...does it have to be tight....or loose for the glue
It should be tight enough to not fall out on its own, but not so tight that there isn't room for glue.
Stumbled on this today. I've been struggling with decals on my custom rod builds. This brand brought back many memories of rod building as a child. I will have to explore this option for some upcoming work.
Glad you found this useful. Good luck to you on your next project!
What kind of knife are you using for the scale carving? I like this process.
Thanks! I'm using a sharp exacto knife.
Can you paint acrylic over it? Or a uv clear coat. Just curious how well ink plays with others.
You can paint acrylic over it. I haven't tried UV resin, but I do spray a UV rattle can coat over it to help prevent fading. I can say that 2 part epoxy clear coats work well.
Спасибо за отличное видео👍 оно вдохновляет
Thank you for watching!
I was wondering if this is the v110 model or the v220 model in voltage, I'd like to know the differences?
This is the 110v model. I don't know that there are any differences in performance. I think it's just a matter of what your power source is.
@@zimmtex thank you I was confirming because there was a restock but there’s no comparison video of both whether if it’s the air intake or water flow of the transformer made any difference.
I just found your channel today and really find your content helpful in learning new techniques to make my own lures
That's great to hear! I appreciate your support!
Hello, I really enjoyed your work. I have only 2 questions for you, one is, what is that liquid you apply after sanding, and what is that white powder, and what liquid do you mix it with to make it firm? Thank you.
Thank you very much, I appreciate your support! After sanding, I use InstaCure to seal the wood. The powder is baking soda which I also glue with InstaCure to make a hard patch.
Nice beautiful fishing lure I have a suggestion for you if you ever run out of hot glue for your hot glue gun you can also use double sided sticky tape to hold the pieces of wood together and it's much easier to pull apart after
Thank you for watching and for your suggestion. I bought some double sided tape for a small cnc machine I got. Might try it out for this as well.
If,you shorten the edges of the not so good swimming lure it will work better
I recently made some adjustments to the joints and it made a big difference. It was just too tight and didn't allow enough movement.
Your methods of transferring pattern to the foil tape is brilliant! Well done... this is the first video of yours I have watched, and I will certainly be watching more.
Thank you very much, I appreciate it!
Make sure you say SALTWATER. I was hoping to find another bass Lure maker. Good work though
This could probably be adapted for bass, but I know what you mean. Thanks for watching!
I know the perfect spot for this bait
Probably not the local park like I did for this video; got lots of looks.
What rod should throw this on
Probably one that looks like a trebuchet. :)
More vídeos?
Yeah, life's been crazy, but I'm editing one right now. It's going to be a wakebait.
@@zimmtex Thanks a lot. I’ll stay tunned !!!!
If you're going to get a spray paint module, you definitely can't go wrong with that one. I'm seriously considering getting one now. Hope they can drliver to Ireland.
I'm liking it so far, thanks for stopping by!
Niiiice 🎉🎉
Thanks, I really appreciate it!
How do you work out the angles to sand the edges to. Im looking to make a few of my own lure for uk canals but its a maze trying to get started.
I just sketch out a generally fishy shape. You can decide if you want it to be thin or round or flat; it's all up to you. You will make mistakes, everyone does. But don't let that discourage you.
@@zimmtex will resign stand up to pike
HI. What size eyes did you use on this? Great job. Thank you
These were 15mm. Thanks for watching!
What kind of silicone do you use
It's a platinum silicone. If you are interested, I have links to most of the products I use on my website here: www.ZimmtexLures.com
Jerk bait definitely
For sure!
Absolutely beautiful work you do.
Thank you very much!
Nice idea with the foil
Thanks, it really gives it a shine that is hard to replicate with paint.
Have you ever made any clear epoxy lures with glitter or glow powder?
I've made clear lures and I've put glitter in epoxy, but I haven't put the two together. May have to try it out sometime.
