Carving a Cicada Creeper Lure out of Wood: a step by step how to guide
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Having never made a topwater walking bait before, I really enjoyed the process of bringing this handmade fishing lure to life. I especially liked carving all of the detail into wood and painting the intricate cicada pattern. If you want to DIY your own fishing lure, follow along with me on this tutorial as I make this fishing lure from start to finish.

Thanks! Someone suggested aluminum wings. So I just got some sheet aluminum in and can't wait to give it a try.
Excellent idea the way you drew your pattern

I've watched several videos on making a Cicada lure, your detail carving is the best, in my opinion, better than Marling Baits, The Four Foot Workshop, and mine included! Nice work Zim!

That reminds me of the Heddon Tiny Crazy Crawler if I remember the name correctly, it was my first top water lure I ever owned. Gray mouse design. Brings back memories.

Here in Ireland there are no creatures like this but I still reckon that lure would get crushed by pike 🙂

I was always told those kind of Lewers are called crawlers not creepers, so I looked it up and Yep 99% of them Lewers are called, crawlers not creepers but I guess they don’t really matter other than the fact that most people call them crawlers. Biggest fish I ever caught was on a creepy crawler. I caught a lot of fish on that lure.

If the body was longer do you think it would have made it easier to tune with the metal wings?
@zimmtex
2 жыл бұрын
I do because this one wanted to tip forward. If it were longer, I think it would be more balanced.

@@zimmtex I happen to find my megabass cicada crawler that’s really small. One big difference was the they have the line tie on butt end of the bait. Did you try flipping it around when you said you tried a bunch of different positions of the wings?
@zimmtex
2 жыл бұрын
@@noreastangler3755 I have seen that configuration; I just really wanted it to swim forward, but that would definately be worth a try.

Maybe, just maybe... drilling holes in those wings might have lightened the bait up.

@@zimmtex it's about experimentation, you don't have anything to lose... unless you threw the original metal ones away ;-)
looks like you need a new bandsaw blade dude
@zimmtex
2 жыл бұрын
I have never really liked that fine toothed blade. It clogs easily and can't handle thicker pieces of wood, but it cuts through thinner stuff nicely.
Its a shame that the lurer doesn't move as well as it looks. Both you and marling baits tried to make the same type of topwater lure with the same results.

@@zimmtex I say Bull$#%@ to that response...the lure was invented in 1920 paten bought by Heddon in 1939 mass produced in plastic instead of wood. Its a take off on the jitterbug that's where you should of started. A hundred years since the paten of the lure , With all the modern tools & materials that's your response....wow. Your videos are done extremely well and I love watching... Einstein said " Its not that I'm so smart its that I stay with the problem longer than others.
