Perch Glidebait Lure Making - start to finish process on making wooden fishing lures

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Please join me for this step-by-step tutorial on how to make a DIY wooden perch glide bait. I love lure making and swimbaits are probably my favorite kinds of handmade fishing lures because of their natural movement and lifelike action. My process begins with lure design, detailed carving and includes lure painting and swim testing these custom baits.

    Wow that's totally amazing, I had an accident around 6 weeks ago and broke my back, I thought my fishing days were over at the time but I'm working had with the physio and the gym. My goal is to hopefully get fishing again next summer, all though I'm now in a wheelchair life will goes on. Watching video's like this makes me even more ready to get fit and healthy. I live in Scotland and I'm very lucky to have free health care (NHS) Tight lines for 2024 and a Merry Christmas

    That swimbait looks and performs beautifully. I love it! I read through some of the comments and saw where you said how long this lure took to make. Thank you for the time and effort you put into getting this together. I know you'll benefit from having the fishing lure, but we all benefit as well from being able to watch the process and learn from you. Merry Christmas Zim! May I ask, Do you have a link to the waterslide paper that you use for your logo? Thanks

    @@zimmtex Thank you so much for the link. At least I know to look for Testors. And if it does become available I will try to purchase it through your link. The stuff I am presently using is so thin that it wrinkles and curls under so easily and frequently that I often have to remove a decal, toss it away, and use a new one. So I will print a couple copies of special decal just to be sure one will work. You can pick yours up with tweezers and the seem to hold up and not get floppy or curl.

    Hello, I really enjoyed your work. I have only 2 questions for you, one is, what is that liquid you apply after sanding, and what is that white powder, and what liquid do you mix it with to make it firm? Thank you.

  • @zimmtex

    @zimmtex

    Ай бұрын

    Thank you very much, I appreciate your support! After sanding, I use InstaCure to seal the wood. The powder is baking soda which I also glue with InstaCure to make a hard patch.

  • @Chillin24Seven
    @Chillin24Seven6 ай бұрын

    I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone glue the wood back on then cut it again. Why not make those cuts first then cut the shape out? I’m just curious what benefits that gave you? Also looks awesome I’d love to use that for some musky.

  • @zimmtex

    @zimmtex

    6 ай бұрын

    Hello and thank you for your question. I glue the cut-offs back on so I have a square surface to run back through the bandsaw and therefore a more accurate cut. Even though a musky would probably tear the finish up, I would love to catch one on this lure! Thanks for watching!

  • @zimmtex

    @zimmtex

    6 ай бұрын

    Fortunately, I started tracking such things. This one took just over 50 hours to build and another 17 hours to edit the video. Keep in mind, my build time takes a little bit longer because I am messing with the camera (setting up shots, etc.) and I start and stop a lot working here and there when I get some free time. Still, these types of lures take a long time to make.

  • @zimmtex

    @zimmtex

    I drew it out in my sketchbook and made a photocopy for the stencil. One thing you might try is finding a picture online of the fish you want to make. You can print it out and use it as a stencil.

  • @zimmtex

    I don't know that carved scales make any difference to the fish you're trying to catch. I for one do it just because I really enjoy detail carving. To each his own I guess.
