This is an aspect of lure making that I have yet to delve into. Always ready to soak in a little more knowledge and proxy experience in the matter. Thanks for your efforts.

Glad it was helpful! I will probably be doing more experimenting with this. There's not a lot of information out there.
That old school stringer, hook hanger is a great idea

Thanks! I'm working on a couple of lures right now.
Was looking forward to this one! Have my first crank down in proto and need to learn to make good tails! The wood burner is a cool idea. I use the model line pen to do a indented line and then sand but wood burner is unique!Thanks brother! Finally clearing today so I hope to mail out your Big D’s Black Bird Crawler Monday!! 👊🏻

Thanks, me too!
This was really cool! I feel like in order for silicone to have crisp and clear color separation, it needs to be dang near close to curing, or fully cured. They say silicone sticks to silicone. I wonder if temp of the mold is a factor for getting new silicone to fully adhere to cured silicone. Without cracking.

Thanks! I am still experimenting with silicone fins and am working on a new video. Color separation is very difficult with silicone for sure. I will say that warmer temperatures decrease cure time. In the next video, I am starting to dabble in painting silicone. Thanks for commenting!

Thank you! Cheers!
So I'm getting ready to dive down the proverbial tail designing and pouring rabbit hole. This video was great but I have one lingering question that's killing me. Why didn't you make the mold so that both side of the tail fin had the lines? Thanks for sharing your experiments and knowledge!

A two sided mold takes much more time to make and I wanted to play around with several colors quickly. I did wind up making a two sided fin mold for the grouper glidebait. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Have you tried Smooth-On 31T? It works extremely well for me for molds and tails. Love the ideas on changing the color! Smooth on also has some dope fluorescents colors from silc pig on their store as well as some glitters that might give you some insane colors too.

I haven't tried 31T, but I'll look into it. Thanks for watching and for the info!

@@zimmtex no problem bro. I really like it bc it cured very quickly. Plus it really works great and isn’t on the high end of price.
Your videos have been super informative, thanks! Doesn’t this process create one sided tails only? Would you have to make a 2 piece mold to get detail on both sides?
@zimmtex
Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! Correct, this video is just a one sided a test to learn what I can about silicone rubber. I'm making a 2-sided mold for use in my upcoming video which will be a full lure build.

Excellent instructional! The clay used, is that an air hardening, oven bake, or reusable modeling clay? Thanks!

It is non-drying reusable clay.

I'm using Let's Resin silicone rubber; it's the same stuff I use for my resin molds. Not sure if it's the best for tails, but I'm trying it out. Thanks for watching!

How will you attach these?

I'm probably going to use silicone sealant (caulk).
Looks like alcohol ink…
@zimmtex
Жыл бұрын
Yes but it's much thicker though. I didn't try alcohol ink because they say it fades really bad in the sunlight if you don't use any UV protection.
