Wood Hill Park Model Railway
Wood Hill Park Model Railway
Join me as I strive to bring the 1980's back to life by building my dream layout. I started during the covid lockdowns and continue to build into the future.
I'm a plain old railway modeller, not a vlogger, and just wish to share my work and skills. At present I make no money from doing so either. That may change when I finally retire. I hope you enjoy the channel now and into the future. Cheers Graham 😊

Stunning layout and great choice of locos and rolling stock.
Many thanks, cheers 😊
Sorry Graham, just caught up with this. Another great video. Took some fettling converting it into DVT. You really showed the set of skills and patience you have. I never saw the 91s run with 2 pantographs mind Graham. The early running of the 91s, some ran with an HST powercar as a DVT. Theres a few videos of them running like that too. It's your layout, so you can run it, how you like but If its realism your after, then obviously the pantograph on the DVT, would have to go, however, do you really find it that important. Thank you for sharing. Another excellent watch young Sir.
Wow five trains running at once, that must be the beauty of having two levels. I have a job to run and control two at any time (still DC) 😄👍Regards Barry.
Yep, I can also control what I want to shunt in the sidings at the same time. Mail depot, tmd, station etc. Can get a bit hectic sometimes though, but it's still great fun. Atb 🙂👍
Nice angle of the layout, showing the embankment at the their best, only hope in time I can get mine to look that good. Keep up the great work Graham.👍
It's not bad, but I need to work on the camera angles, not to mention turning the sound on. 😁 cheers 🙂 👍
Just me playing about again with a bit of impromptu live streaming of the layout. Regards Graham 😊
It does thanks 👍
The tunnel entrance (apature) is about 70mm wide x 70 mm high to the centre of the arch. Dear stuff as it's a German import, but House of Hobbies have it for £18.74 + p&p. Atb Graham 😊
What size is the tunnel entrance please
It's made from noch walling. Description: Extra Long Arcade Wall 39.6x7.4cm Noch Code: N34859. Just cut down to one tunnel and then the aperture cut out. I'll go have a measure of the actual hole and repy again for you. Hope this helps. Cheers Graham 🙂 👍
Dont loose heart mate, i love your 1980s br build and your updates, it envokes nostalgia ♥️ i cant get hold of them ic containers in the corrct size / shape for love nor money..😢
Probably making them out of paper now to save the planet. 😁🙄 I've moved on since to flower borders to follow the station I'm now modelling. cheers 🙂 👍
Great conversion, Graham enjoyed watching the dvt I think there's one on the market for the 225 the one you have I think that goes with the 87 86 and maybe a 90 I think they call that the mk3. I am pretty sure Hornby did do the mk4 dvt for the 91. Thanks for sharing 👍 and happy modelling.
Yep, just had a look, and you're right. Mk4 dvt around £80. Don't know how that slipped by me. Still, it's more fun and cheaper making my own I guess. Will get an old mk4 dvt body and fit it to make it more accurate (prototypical) when I come across a good example. Cheers 🙂 👍
Thanks for sharing this Graham, very informative. All the best. Ian
A pleasure, always happy to pass on my experiences in the hobby. Thanks for watching 👍
Another great video thanks Graham. Superb modelling, I wish I had the confidence to modify the way you do. I did however pause work on my layout to insulate the loft, 75mm of celotex type board. Not easy but well worth it. Steve
You should be nice and cosy with all the insulation. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers Graham 🙂 👍
Hi, very good upgrade on the older class 91 model, I was under the assumption that Ringfield motors ran badly under dcc control, I’m surprised you didn’t fit cab lighting in this model as it adds additional appeal to the loco, great video content as always, thanks for sharing.
@StormmyStormmy I'm not using the ringfield motor, only leaving it installed as weight. I'm just using it as a trailer dummy for my 2022 version. As for cab lights I never really use them even when they are part of a built in lighting package, so I didn't bother as they are never on while the loco is in motion. But that's just me I guess. Cheers Graham 🙂 👍
Hi Graham nice work ,we are like mates right 😊,what you could of done is use a HST power car as a surrogate DVT also don’t swear at me (vainights)😂😂 those to things you painted black on the roof are the cab ti shore radio pods we had them on our buses for our TfL radio system and not vents bud ,don’t recall them ever too and tailing a 91 each end BUT it was on the drawing board so your really doing what BR may of done You take care my friend Mark
Cheers Mark, food for thought as usual mate. Radio pods😮well another bit of knowledge learnt 👌 😊 atb mate 👍
Excellent job on the upgrade and conversion, where did you source the little wiper pick ups, a scan on evilbay didn`t yeild much.
I used a pack of various lima wipers I bought sometime ago. Just cut and adapted them to suit. But I have been experimenting with cutting my own out of 0.3 mm Phosphor Bronze Sheet that people sell on fleabay. They are working out ok, but could do with being a little thinner I reckon. Thanks for watching, any other questions don't hesitate to ask. Cheers Graham 🙂 👍
@@WHP1980s Cheers Graham, I will be doing an old Lima cl43, I managed to get Peters spares wheel set at a good price when Hattons closed, I`ll be using two power cars and converting them to DCC and improving pick ups, mind you I have to build the shed let alone the layout.
@@newlynnrailway nothing wrong with a plan, even if it's long term. 😁👍
Great little project well executed Graham, you should pleased and proud of the end result. I know what you mean about the heat in the loft, I sometimes go up into the loft early in the day open the Velux windows then return later that day when it is a bit cooler. Then blow me the next day when there is no sun the loft by the evening is quiet cold 👍.
Cheers Barry, yep, you sure don't know where you are with the temperatures in the loft sometimes. Other than that, it's a great out of the way place to build one. Atb Graham 🙂👍
@@WHP1980s Your right Graham, the loft is a great place to escape to and forget the world and its issues, lol.
That was a great shot of the railway maintenance crew installing the pilings. A bit of artistic license, as sheet piilng is much longer in real life. 😊 The finished job looks great 👍
An artist licence is always on hand to use in modelling as much as you would wish everything to be perfect it's not always possible. Cheers Graham 🙂👍
@WHP1980s Yep, I realise that. It was a tongue in cheek remark, really, but the maintenance scene was a nice touch.
@@martynbuzzing3327 cheers and appreciated regards Graham 🙂👍
Yeah, I agree it's been a long time since I've last heard that track. See what I did there ....
Nice one👍
I’ve not heard that tune in years mate 😂blimey have a good Father’s Day see if my gang get dad some railways items. Bless them. 😂 All the best Mark. 😊😊
That's a thought, I'll keep my fingers crossed on that one as well mate. Always great to get an addition to the layout instead of a pair of socks. 😁 cheers Graham 🙂 👍
@@WHP1980sI have more pairs of almonds than primark so a wagon ,coach or locomotive would be nice from my two 😊
You did a great job making the scene with the British Railway workers, crane, front end loader, rail car with load, etc. it would make a nice permanent scene in your layout. Take care.
That's not a bad idea, a permanent permanent way scene. Cheers 🙂 👍 atb
Top tip, film in landscape not portrait, it will get much more in shot.
It was filmed initially in landscape, but shorts only except portrait or transition from landscape to portrait which cuts the sides. 😉 will try and remember next time. 🙃
@@WHP1980s I see, shame that shorts does that. Hopefully going there soon as never been. 👍
@claptnei great place, if the weather's OK 👍 I was lucky.
Thanks for visiting, hope you enjoyed your day! Just saw you had a chat with Tony the guard, we are lucky to have him, a fantastic volunteer!
A pleasure. We all had a great day thanks in part due to your knowledgeable and friendly staff, Tony being one of them. I must also mention the guy in the signal box who was most helpful and a great source of knowledge as well. Smashing team you have there. I hope people flock to your railway this summer. You deserve more attention than people are currently paying you. All the best, Graham @WHP1980s
Very nice tidy up. Great work in progress diorama's a well.
Cheers, glad you enjoyed the update. Atb Graham 🙂 👍
Great Scenic work looks really good
Many thanks, cheers for watching, atb Graham 👍
Excellent how to Graham and good timing for me, just got some of that poly fibre stuff and learnt a lot from your video, embankment looks great! Thanks for sharing, cheers Darrell
I'm glad to be of inspiration Darrell. Hope you're enjoying your landscaping. It's one of my most enjoyable parts of modelling. Especially when things come out well. Cheers Graham 🙂 👍
@@WHP1980s always an inspiration mate 😃👍
@darrelldeltic807 cheers for the kind words mate 👍
Good video, excellent modelling skills mate
Many thanks, atb Graham 😊 👍
I was there in 2022 and it was excellent. Good recommendation for a day out.
Thanks, glad to give them a shout-out. Cheers Graham 🙂 👍
it must be 20 years since I was last there. That's a lot of stock they have. Do they still have the N7?
I'm not sure. I didn't see anything on display like it even though I'm not really up on exact steam loco's these days. I know what a N9 looks like as I've got a couple in my collection. Thanks for watching atb Graham 👍
Well i thought that embankment looked alright, then you cut it up, added what you needed and then i thought wow, what a massive difference. Just goes to show, what an eye for detail and talent you have. Great little project, just goes to show what a i know and what a bit of reworking can do. Looks excellent Graham. As usual, great watch and Thanks for sharing.
Must admit I wondered whether I'd be able to pull it off and make a marked improvement. I am pleased with the outcome myself. Cheers Graham 🙂 👍
Seemed like a nice trip out Graham. Perhaps a few ideas for weathering your postal Van's on the layout. Great little video squire. Thank you for sharing.
Might be a little too weathered I reckon 🤔 😉 yep we all had a great day. Hope they get more visitors tough, as the place was quite deserted for a bank holiday. Thought I'd do my bit by sharing my experiences to get them a tiny bit more publicity. Thanks for watching Mickey atvb Graham 😊👍
Super stuff Graham , vast improvement. Regards John
Cheers 🙂 👍
Always impressive what you achieve Graham
Cheers for the kind words. Atb Graham 🙂 👍
Wow that's amazing Graham you have a great method. Best wishes Richard Canterbury
Cheers 🙂 👍
Hello, nice little update. I was wondering where you sourced your 3D Printer Piling from? Thanks Tim.
LitPrints Shop on ebay. Used for canal piling as well. Worked well as embankment piling too. Hope that helps. Cheers 🙂
Nice job Graham, broke up the grassland patch and made it into a little scene
Cheers 🙂👍
that looks great well done atb
Cheers 🙂 👍
I am a first time viewer of your channel, I absolutely love the concrete. I'm going to go back through your channel and see t if you showed how to make the concrete like that. It almost reminds me of slate, but you can tell it was concrete right away and having poured concrete for a living in a past life, I appreciate the cuts you made in the concrete. Some people forget to add that part. Aĺl of it is well done!
It's actually air dry clay, you can buy it from Hobbie Craft. They do a few colours. I used grey. Great to work with. If you look at the update I did called hard standing for the loco shed. You can see how I made the concrete hard standing. Welcome to the channel I hope you enjoy watching. Atb Graham 🙂 👍 kzread.info/dash/bejne/c5OEtLZ_nLypabg.htmlsi=j0TY2oKfara6Ccte
Hi buddy , here’s a solution to your beams , I built buildings , trees n forest even a high rise flats around the beams he had and it works at eye level and is a vast improvement overall . Cracking layout out you have and your always looking to improve on what you’ve already done the story telling with all your miniatures before commencing is original and unbeatable , your a pioneer in this ever changing hobby . A big thumbs up from me Buddy 👍
Thanks very much for all those kind words. Much appreciated, cheers Graham 😊👍
What a difference, your first attempt didn't look natural, the second is spot on. I use cheap hair spray from lidl as fixing agent. The only downside is, it smells like a hair salon+ it gets in the back of your throat. Top marks, also loving the over hanging bushes.
Cheers, many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Atb Graham 🙂 👍
Great content Graham. Thanks to generous people like yourself, we have the opportunity to learn and improve, perhaps someday,...even to pass on that knowledge again. Thank you sincerely.
A real pleasure. It's great to share and learn with like-minded people like yourself. Many thanks Graham 😊 👍
Thank you for your lovely response Graham, likewise. My humble creation to be, is not as large as your wonderfull layout, but I hope to be able to emulate your quality scenery and design methods. Trying to get my head around DCC whilst waiting to begin. All the best.
@user-kw7yv2gi7d best of luck in your modelling journey.
I’m going to take my layout apart and start again
Also, sharing it with like-minded people helps keep your enthusiasm going. Good luck with your new build. Atb Graham 🙂 👍
Another beautiful project 👍👍
Many thanks for the endorsemen. Atb Graham 🙂 👍
I graham I like the way you do the work on your layout wen do you want to start on my layout tony
One layout's enough mate. It's easier than you think. You just need to really get stuck in and constantly perfect your skills. You need a have-a-go attitude I guess, even if you don't succeed the first time. Many thanks for watching atb Graham 👍 🙂
