I have since found that toggling the stop layout, resume layout button(Top right hand of the screen) will bring the loco's on the hornby app back to life without restarting the app. But just reintroducing the power alone doesn't seem to spark them back to life like other dcc loco's on the layout. At least on my layout it doesn't (With stay alives fitted that is). Still handy to know. 🤔🙂

Thank you Graham. It's been a really useful insight into Hornby's new DCC decoder system. I've been holding off on buying in to it until others had sorted/identified the teething issues and done the heavy lifting on ironing out the problems and glitches. I now feel more confident that it will be worth me dabbling with a decoder now, to see how I get on with it. They do seem to have priced it about right for what you get and of course you can reload/download different loco sound sets whenever required, so brilliant flexibility there. They just need to make sure the sound files are top notch so as not to waste this product's potential....The competition must be working on similar systems surely! I look forwards as always to your next episode. Cheers Graham, regards Julian

Hi Graham. I'm so pleased that you appear to have solved the problem, but I'm astounded that your diesels needed the stay alive (I did suggest that this might be necessary if power was being picked up by only one bogie, but I somehow doubt that this was the case)! I assume your diesels are Hornby TT:120 and not very old? No, it didn't surprise me that you had to do a reset to get the loco going again. Pigeon - where's your shotgun? When you win the lottery, you will need to upgrade your controller (or just go with Hornby's Bluetooth system). Thunderbirds are go! Sorry, my little brain immediately assumed Hornby HM7000 meant TT:120 - I should know better (actually, I do know better - just a senior moment).

Thanks for the input Paul, much appreciated. And yes, I'm not running tt but good old oo. As for the pigeon I would love to silence it, but that's nature for you. People forget we are all part of that and should be more tolerant. Some humans annoy me more, no thoughts for this beautiful planet we live on. Deep I know... cheers Graham 👍

Will have a look, but I'm sure it's not cheap. ........Had a look not badly priced, but I'm going to stay with this shared system I have at the moment with a long term intension of possibly swapping all loco's over to the HM7000 system if it pans out. But this is quite a long way down the line as I would have to replace all my dcc only chips. 🤔🫣Cheers for the feedback 👍

@brianwilliams1702 that's the case for most systems, just don't want the cost of another dcc system if I don't need it, they could all be going obsolete if blue tooth technology takes off. Cheers though 👍

@@WHP1980sExcept that if your DCC manufacturer goes out of business, or decides to stop supporting the kit you have, it carries on working. I’m not expecting Hornby to go out of business but if they decide HM7000 isn’t paying its way, what happens if the app is no longer available, or stops being upgraded? Without it those chips can’t be reprogrammed.

theres a vid on youtube guy pairs hm7000 to z21 , pairs the loco with hornby app, then turns the app to dcc mode / bluetooth off and the z21 picked it up straight away. even put the sounds on via hornby app then the passed over and z21 function buttons played sounds. picadilly model railway channel :)@@brianwilliams1702

I just had a look and maybe you saw the loose rusty rail in front of the loco which I have in the cess every so often in that section. I can assure you it was on the rails. Also this has happened many times off camera as well before I had the stay alives fitted. Cheers 👍

@@WHP1980s Ah, it's pity about the quirks of this decoder So much promise, reasonable price, but definitely needs the keep-alive. I am in Canada where I can get digitrax soujnd decoders at a reasonable price ( $65 each), so I may get the sound programmer and stick with them.

Have to admit I've not tried them on dcc yet, only in tandem with a dcc system as a stand alone using the power on the track from a dcc system. Will give it a try out at one point but this is not interesting to me personally as I only have limited space on my dcc system and adding more loco's to my dcc system is the opposite to what I'm trying to achieve out of this system personally. But I'm sure people would like to know how reliable doing this would be. Thanks for watching cheers Graham 👍
