Hello book friends ❤ My name is Ellie and (you guessed it) I love reading!
I created my channel Bibbidi Bobbidi Books because I wanted a safe and happy place to chat about books. Please consider subscribing for content on Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Horror books. I'd love to have you here on this little bookish corner of the internet!

I forgot to say the parts of the seaside and the sunset were amazing. 🌅🌆
Thank you, I had a lot of fun putting those clips together. The sunset was gorgeous 😍
Great vlog Ellie, what a great subject to explore. I love the idea of mermaids and when I was younger I loved the film Splash, it was a film that came out in 1984. It is based on the little mermaid. I love themed vlogs. 🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️🧜♀️
Thank you Maria 🥰 I love mermaids too - even more now I've learned a little bit about their history! I've not watched "Splash" but it sounds fun 🧜♀️💜💜
Great vlog and I've never seen any of these books discussed before, which is nice. I'm glad you enjoyed them so much. I didn't realise that the little mermaid was so dark either!
Thank you! I was surprised by how different the origional little mermaid tale is (compared to the Disney film). Thanks for watching and commenting ❤
I loved this video format. Definitely do more like this 😊
Thank you for the feedback 🥰 I had fun making this video!
Great vlog lovely!
Thank you 🌊🧜♀️💜
I like Lore. Vikings!!
This is such a cool idea for a video!
Thank you! I had a lot of fun filming it 🧜♀️
Woman's Lore sounds like a compelling read. Puts me in the mind of Natalie Hayne's work, though she focuses exclusively (I believe) on women's roles and history in Greek myth specifically.
It was a fascinating non-fiction book. Oh yes, I've heard good things about Natalie Haynes- "Stone blind" and "A Thousand Ships" have been on my radar a while. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Evening Ellie, I really do love your vlogs and the sunset was stunning, it looked like a beautiful evening. Lure sounds pretty intriguing, I might check that one out.
Thank you, I had a lot of fun putting these clips together 😊
I really like these themed videos. Talking about mermaids , have you read The Murmering Bones by AG Slatter. It's a really dark, gothic mermaid story. I think I have recommended Slatter to you before, I'm not sure if you got on with her or not, but this is quite different and a novel too rather than a short story. Another mermaid story that I'd like to read and have heard is very good is The Mermaid of Black Conch. 🧜♀️
Thank you 😊 I do actually own "The Murmuring Bones" and was planning to read it for this video, but it turns out I left it in storage up North (we are in the process of moving and it's difficult keeping track of where everything is!). I'll look forward to reading it once we've moved! I'll also look up the Mermaid of Black Conch - I'm hooked now! 🧜♀️
@@bibbidibobbidibooks Ah, yes, that must be annoying. Hopefully you will be reunited with all of your books soon. I hope you enjoy the mermaid books when you get to them.
Wow looks amazing! I haven’t had toasted marshmallows for years. It’s so good to get a break away to recharge the batteries. A fantastic vlog Ellie. X
It was lovely 🥰 Toasted marshmallows are one of those things that instantly transport you back to childhood 😋 Soo yum. Thanks for watching ❤
Great vlog Ellie. ❤
Thank you lovely ❤
Great reading wrap up. I have not been reading much as I have been doing a frailty course so it has taken over a lot of my spare time. ❤😘
Thank you 🥰 I hope you enjoyed the frailty course. That sounds really interesting, and so important!
Valley Versus Vision: Folk Horror of the Willamette Valley is an incredibly dark new folk horror book!
Thank you for the recommendation!
Thanks for this! I have recently discovered a love of the folk/mythology horror sub-genres and this list is perfect!
You're welcome. I'm glad you found this video useful. There are lots of recommendations in the comments too! 😊
What a lovely place for a vacation! Diavola and Lost in the Garden are my two most disappointing reads so far this year.
Thank you, we had a lovely time. I was disappointed by both of them too 😔 They sounded like books I would love. Oh well, on to the next one!
What a gorgeous manor house. The garden was beautiful too and a great swing.I'm glad you managed to get away for a bit with friends. D and D must have been fun to play.Lost in the garden sounds very strange. Glad you enjoyed the Manga, I've never read one. I want to read Diavola but I'm not sure after you described it. It wasn't what I was expecting it too be. Great reading vlog Ellie.😊❤
Hello, I hope you are well.. We had a lovely getaway and it came at a really good time. Yeah, "Diavola" wasn't what I was expecting. The emphasis was too much on family drama for my taste. But I'd be interested to hear your thoughts, if you do pick it up!
What a beautiful place for a staycation! 💜💜
It was gorgeous 😍 and just around the corner from Norwich!
@@bibbidibobbidibooks oh really? You'll have to let me know where so I can look it up!
Very glad I just discovered your channel!! What a fabulous & spooky house to have a staycation with friends. That first paragraph!!!! The most overwritten I've ever seen!! What a beautiful cover though.
Hello 🥰 welcome to this little corner of booktube ❤ Honestly, the house was stunning! Haha I know!! 🙈 Served me right for buying the book based on the cover and synopsis alone. I should have read the first paragraph... Lesson learned! Thanks so much for watching and commenting 📖💫
What a beautiful place to vacation- it looks so relaxing! The grounds are stunning, and I would have been on that swing as much as possible too :) I am so glad you had a nice trip with your friends, what a wonderful place to make memories (and read some fun books)!
It was gorgeous. The swing was like something out of a fairytale 😍 Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
The twisted ones is not folk. It is not horror. And it is not good. Any atmosphere the author could have created is obliterated by the constant, inane, juvenile "wit". Truly one of the worst written novels I've ever read. The "author" is no doubt laughing all the way to the bank. Read the source material she pilfered, Arthur Machen's White People, instead. Or the more contemporary Starve Acre whose author can actually write.
Hello, thanks for your comment and recommendations. I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy "The Twisted Ones". It's not my favorite T Kingfisher novel but I do actually quite like how she includes a bit of humor in her stories. I'm fairly new to the horror genre, and folk horror subgenre, so I'm looking forward to reading more and figuring out what works for my reading taste.
This is literally my dream haha! What an amazing vacation! 😀
We had such a relaxing getaway. The house was beautiful!
Little bit overwritten? I don't think I'd get past chapter one! 😀 We always want what we can't have, don't we? I live in a small house with no shower, just a bath. I so look forward to going places where I can enjoy a shower.
Haha yeah, I struggled with "Lost in the Garden" and I'm really sad about it because the blurb made it sound like something I would really enjoy. I should have read the first page before buying. Lesson learned! True, but it makes it extra special when you do get to enjoy those things. I think life would be pretty boring if you had everything already!
Hi Danny 😁wow I am just amazed at how cool this place is...what a find!! Ellie your vlogs are always so peaceful and beautiful.
Danny says hi 👋😊 Oh my goodness, it was such a gorgeous place to stay! My kind of holiday, eating good food, reading, playing boardgames and enjoying the gardens 🌳🍃📖💫
What a BEAUTIFUL place ...oh my just fairytale-ish
It really was like something out of a fairytale 🤩
Great vlog!! What an amazing house for a staycation! It must have been very atmospheric. Hope you are enjoying the betrer weather now and reading good things 😊
Thank you so much 🥰 We had a wonderful getaway. It came at the perfect time, a much needed break. Yes! The weather is fab ☀️ We went to the beach last weekend, which was gorgeous. I hope you are doing well?
I just finished Lost in the Garden! And it keeps getting weirder and weirder lol
Even weirder? Oh no 😅 I'm hoping I'll enjoy it more if I go in with a different mindset. Do you think it's worth it?
@@bibbidibobbidibooks it’s hard to say lol I enjoyed the experience in the sense that the entire time it felt like I was in a fever dream. It reads like an M Night Shyamaln movie on shrooms lol. It’s very trippy and at some points you arent even sure who the main character is. If you are up for it I do recommend it, you just cant expect anything from it. Think of it as taking a painkiller and then explaining the top 3 weirdest dreams you ever had to someone important. I hope that helps?? 😂😂
@@LittleMyInTheSky haha this actually does help a lot!! I think I will pick it up when I'm in the mood for a fever dream-like story. I do quite like ambiguous, weird books, so I think I'll enjoy it, if I go in with the right expectations!
Evening Ellie, you really do make the best vlogs. The house looked amazing, the room you showed looked perfect for DnD, I wish I could play there. What a shame about Lost in the Garden, how can you have that cover and not be similar to Midsommar or The Wicker Man! Brilliant video as always 🙂
Evening John 😊 Thank you so much, I do enjoy putting these vlogs together. It was such an awesome venue for our DnD session! Our current campaign has a cosmic horror type storyline, so this place was perfect! Really atmospheric with all the candles lit🕯 I was really hoping lost in the garden would be a new favorite. Serves me right for being drawn in by the pretty cover haha!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
oh my goodness how lovely! 😍
Ahh thank you 🌳🍃🌸☀️📖💫
The Galaxy and the Ground Within is so good! Such a good closer to that series, if it must be the end. If you haven't read them, the Monk & Robot books are a good pivot for a similar, but different, cozy feels by Becky Chambers. I may even love them even more, despite how short they are. The concept of drawing magic in Witch Hat Atelier sounds amazing, I struggle with manga and anime though, simply because so many series never know when to end, but I may look into. Hope your holiday was wonderful, it looks it!
I'm pleased to hear that "The Galaxy and the Ground Within" is a worthy finale! Yes, I think I've read all of her novellas and enjoyed them all. The monk and robot books are so wholesome. I feel the same with manga, sometimes they do drag on. I'll keep you posted on how I find this series. So far, it's been very cosy. Thanks for your thoughtful comment 😊
I have had m k jemison on my list to try so thank you for talking about the fifth element.
I hope you enjoy their books! Thanks for watching and commenting 🥰
Oh!!, I want to read more Brom books! That cover looks amazing
Brom has such a unique style! Wouldn't recommend Child Theif, but Krampus was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to reading Slewfoot next! 🧙♀️
I hadn't heard of Horror Movie but I'm adding that straight to my list!!!
It sounds like it's going to be a fun one! I think I'll reach for it in spooky season 👻
Hi Ellie. Great video as always. Have read all Becky Chambers work and love it. Not read any of the duncton books but have read William Horwoods Hyddenworld quartet of novels which were fantastic. Right up your street. Am reading Samantha Shannons Bone Season books which am enjoying immensely. Read The Priory of the Orange Tree last year. I love how reading a book can open up whole new worlds from an author that wasn't on the radar before. Best Regards Chris
Hello, I hope you are well 😊 I haven't heard of the Hiddenworld quartet, I will have to look them up! Thanks for the recommendation. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying Bone Season. I've actually had Priory of the Orange Tree on my radar for a while but have been intimidated by how chunky it is 🙈 I agree, I think that's why I enjoy fantasy and sci-fi so much. I don't get the same sense of wonder and escapism with contemporary books. Thanks so much for supporting my channel, it means a lot.
I’ve been in Empires of Sand by David Ball. It’s good.
That sounds interesting! I'll have to look that one up. Thanks for watching 😊
Excellent responses to the tag! I love Dan Simmons' horror books, but will definitely be on the lookout for Hyperion based on your recommendation. I still need to read Paul Tremblay. How High We Go In The Dark sounds like a difficult but fascinating read. Hope you have a great second half of the year!
Thank you 😊 I hope you enjoy Hyperion if you do pick it up. I enjoyed "Head Full of Ghosts" by Paul Tremblay and plan to read "Cabin At The End of the World" next. I really hope I continue to enjoy his books. "How High We Go In The Dark" certainly was a tough read! I appreciate how the author took a risk and know lots of other people really rate that book. You definitely have to be in the right headspace though!
❤❤❤❤
Hi Ellie, I really enjoyed this video. Looking forward to the next one like this. I have a black cat called Midnight.😊
Hello, thank you so much ❤ Aww black cats are the best, "Midnight" is the perfect name too 🐈⬛
the duncton wood series sounds adorable 🥰 hope you're having a lovely week so far! 💞
They sound so charming don't they! Thank you, I am enjoying the sunshine this week. Summer has finally arrived in Norfolk! I hope you are having a lovely week as well ☀️💛
Thanks so much for the shoutout, Ellie! :) I'm so glad we get to connect here, and so looking forward to our buddy read !! I think you'll really like Pet Sematary, it (imo) compensates for any pacing problems in Salem's Lot and is just fantastic all the way through! Can't wait to hear what you think of it :)
Hello, I'm glad we got to connect here as well 😊 Getting to know new people is one of my favorite things about booktube. I'm glad to hear that the pacing is improved in Pet Sematary! Hopefully I'll love it as much as everyone else seems to 🤞
Great responses! I love this tag and seeing how your reading year is going so far
Thank you! It's fun checking in mid-way through the year. Let's hope we have a good second half 🤞
Some great answers Ellie, I'd definitely have some of the same answers as you. I'm very much looking forward to Paul Tremblay's new book. I'm really looking forward to our buddy reads, I had so much fun when we read Krampus and Hyperion and it will be great to read more books with you.
Thank you 😊 I'm looking forward to our buddy reads as well! I think we've picked some good ones. I hope you are enjoying this glorious weather ☀️ Summer has finally arrived!
I have to confess that the only Becky Chambers book I've read didn't do much for me at all, but I love Wylder's Hall. Salem's Lot is my favourite Stephen King book, although I confess I haven't read all that many of his... for reasons that are about to become plain. I actually love the novella length, and tend to avoid epic fantasy, and very long books. It may be an age thing. I can read ten good novellas to any one of Brandon Sanderson's, and I only have so much reading time left. 🙂 Another novella I highly recommend, if you want to read something by an author who really gets grief, is Sorrowmouth by Simon Avery.
Hello 😊 I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy Becky Chambers. She writes quite "cosy" sci-fi which I know isn't for everyone. I am looking forward to reading more King. I think my main issue with Salem's Lot was the pacing. Also, I knew it was a vampire story so any element of surprise was lost. Thank you for the novella recommendation! I think short books can really pack a punch when they are done well.
@@bibbidibobbidibooks In a way, I think Becky Chambers hit my partner, and I much the same way as J.K. Rowling, in that we've been reading SF/Fantasy since the 1960s. Rowling got hugely lucky in that she got picked up by the media, and introduced to thousands of people who hadn't been fantasy readers before. To them, Harry Potter was new, and exciting. To us old folks there wasn't an original idea in the books, and it read like mish-mash of ideas that were done better by much better writers decades before. In Chamber's case, it was the fact thar people all over BookTube were raving about her wonderful characterisation, where we just saw stock character types that we'd seen over, and over before. It's not that either of them are bad writers, albeit Rowling has since revealed herself to be problematical in her beliefs, but they just don't quite match up to the hype. There are better books out there. Give Louise Carey's Inscape trilogy a look. Though, it would be unfair of me not to mention that Carey's distopian series is anything but cosy.
I love Becky Chambers, and I agree, I think Record of a Spaceborn Few is overlooked a lot. I think The Galaxy and the Ground Beneath is my favorite, but Spaceborn Few is easily 2nd favorite in that series. Lovely video as always!
Same, those two are my favorites!
Yes! I'm so pleased you agree. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews about Spaceborn Few (compared to the others) but I really enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and supporting my channel. Let me know if you ever want to do a buddy read 😊
@@bibbidibobbidibooks I've never done a buddy read, believe it or not, I would certainly be interested!
Hi Ellie, what a great selection of books. I'm wanting to start The wayward children books. I also want to read the second Emily Wilde. Hope you are well?😊❤
Hello 😊 Thank you so much. I hope you enjoy the Wayward Children series and the second Emily Wild book! They are both very cosy. I am doing OK, thanks for asking ❤ The sunshine is helping 🌞 I am enjoying the light evenings - does wanders for my mood! I hope everything is well with you and your family?
@bibbidibobbidibooks my family is doing well thanks. I'm currently staying with my son for a week.😊
Hi Ellie. Gogmagog sounds intriguing. Have added to my tbr. Hope you r ok. Sounds like things have not been quite right for u recently. 5 books is still not a bad effort for May! Your channel is great and you are showcasing books and genres that don't appear with other booktubers so you have a real niche. You,'ve got me hooked anyway. Regards, Chris.
Hi Chris. Gogmagog was certainly unique! I hope you enjoy it, if you do pick it up. Thank you for your kind comment and for supporting my channel, it means a lot 😊
I'm so glad you loved Wylding Hall! It's one of my absolute favorite folk horror books. That's a beautiful edition you have. Elizabeth Hand got inspiration from the folk rock band Fairport Convention and a summer they spent at a country estate after a tragic accident killed one of the band members.
It was fantastic, thoroughly enjoyed it. I will have to look up "Fairport Convention" - I didn't realise they were the inspiration behind the story!
You should read slewfoot, it is AMAZING!
I have "Slewfoot" on my shelves! Planning to pick it up this spooky season 🧙♀️
Thank you Ellie. 😊
Thanks Veronica, I hope you are well ❤
