    @Bret Hart tThats always a convenient go to argument, when you don't want to look deeper into it. Fact is, while yes Newspaper readers are significantly low - there are a few things you need to consider. Firstly is the people that do buy and read it (the older generations) often influence people in their inner circle about politics to ones that aren't politically literate or that aren't attached to policies. Anecdotally this is what happened to my partner and a few friends, who voted liberal because other Murdoch consumers tell them too. This has a significant impact, whether you like it or not. Also you need to consider the headlines on newsstands, online and cartoons used. All demonizing and negatively depicting Labor and positively showing the liberals. Might not seem much, but to the ones that don't know politics, this is subliminally stored in the back of their heads. My mate voted liberal and he's only excuse was "I dunno, aren't labor bad". This is one of many. And no, he isn't politically informed, he doesn't care politics. But the messaging has seepd into his head. You can think that way all you like, but dig deeper and its more complex than a simple line of thought.

    @Bret Hart If you aren't into politics, and every time you walk passed a newsagent, supermarket, or convenience store and with front page headlines demonising, simplatising, straight up lying and using propaganda style imagery (like associating labor with nazi's, or that Bill is dumb and evil), this will have a very strong, indirect and subliminal impact to people that, overall aren't that well educated or passionate when it comes to politics. And that is a significant part of the population. Did you not even see the coincidences laid out in the video???

    Even if newspaper readership is down it doesn’t mean their influence is gone. A lot of news on tv/radio/internet is still sourced from the paper. Murdoch, Stokes and Nine entertainment own Australian media.

    Bear I’m more surprised that my friend responded exactly the same way the female guest responded after Labor lost (my friend is an LNP supporter). Well, if his FJ’s numbers are correct, that is a huge war chest supporting the LNP. People don’t advertise for no returns. Definitely enough to ‘trick’ people who aren’t informed. Again, most Aussie are workers & families. They voted against their interests, which to me suggests they didn’t know what Labor was fighting for. Scare campaigns decide elections. Crazy. Even today I was responding to a dude on Facebook who said he didn’t vote Labor because of death taxes (article was people losing penalty rates).

    What I believe sets Shanks apart from the majority of Australian political voices online is his more objective view of the policies and agendas at play. I enjoy the notion that the man does not follow a particular party based on the virtue of its existence (like you'd back a sports team), but rather based on the perspectives and propositions they bring to the table. I feel confident that Jordies would have the insight to change his political inclination towards Labor in a hypothetical scenario where another party provided objectively better direction for our nation. I wish to utilise the same insight myself in my day to day experience. Thankyou for keeping me informed my dude.

    @@harassment100 I wholly understand the view that Jordies is a Labor Boy. There's no real way to argue otherwise due to the slant of his videos. Everyone has their biases. Shanksy's bias is just more informed, and appears more valid as a result. There's no way for me to actually tell if he will switch parties if such a hypothetical scenario occurs, or if he'll stick with the sinking ship if this hypothetical destructive Labor dies. I just hope he will. What is this "Obvious reason" you refer to? I'd like to know a little more about it.

    @@harassment100 I do agree that we have an issue collectively, regarding people with different opinions as lesser than ourselves. It is important to respect others, even if they do not share our sentiments on particular topics. Personally I find it unwise to ascertain that the Australian Media and our established cultural voting patterns have little influence on future votes. I know that I am certainly not as well read on Aussie Politics as I should be, and as such I can provide little evidence to support myself, but it appears to me that this election cycle was focused more on flashy marketing than a true examination of policy (Which is what Australians really need in order to establish a competent government). I'm not going to lambast or favour a particular party here, I'm just saying the 2018 election wasn't as democratic as it could have been. People deserve to be better informed.

    @@harassment100 I have no such intention. As I've stated many many times the idea of left and right is moronic which is why I make fun of all news services because they're terrible and serve the exact same pool of elites. My intention for this channel is to show that there is a select group of very powerful individuals that control society and it's backed up by mountains of evidence. There's no ideology to it, they just install governments that benefit them. There is nothing remotely valid in this comment. Nothing. You haven't debunked any of the evidence I've put forward. None. You haven't acknowledged that the video being taken apart was on a "news" channel that offered nothing even resembling substance to counter the idea that money influences elections. You've just said "they all have agendas and friendlyjordies is trying to sell an idea for money. How utterly dull. If I wanted money I wouldn't be commenting on politics I can assure you, I'd be one of those easy going comedians that never touches anything controversial. This is not of benefit to my career, I'm trying to show as many people as possible what actual research looks like as opposed to what is offered in the media which is obfuscation of evidence to serve their owners. Clearly, judging from the fact you watch this channel and still use words like "left" and "right" it's not sinking in.

    "Beyond lost" lmao. You should be trying to bridge the political gap and talking about different points of view. Instead you are taking the stance that a huge group of Australians are Beyond talking to or reasoning with, and that's complete b.s. just cuz someone watches a different news program to you, doesn't mean they aren't thinking, reasonable human beings.

Keep in mind that most articles are doing well to have more than a dozen citations.

    genuine question - I get that QLD was one of the most LNP in the federal election, but we've got an ALP state government, so what does that mean for media influence?

  • @bluecollarscientist4182

    @bluecollarscientist4182

    4 жыл бұрын

    Media influence does not mean the party always wins. Its always weighted against peoples desire for change. Thats how labor still wins 30% of the time when theyre never back by the corporations. The next election will be near impossible for the liberals to win, no matter the media assault. The media cant spin the rapid debt rising and falling wages on labor 10 years after and with only one labor party in office for 20 years. Additionally, labor in qld is much more centrist than the rest of labor. Media bias biggest issue is how it dictates the boundaries of the conversation. For example, qld has the heaviest bias and the most centrist labor party. So at a federal level, the labor party can then be painted as insanely 'left' as there policies are out of line of the local media acceptable opinions. This is why in America they think health care would make them socialist and why many australians believe increasing a corporate tax (where the top 200 companies would actually pay something) is seen as a socialist plot. It is all relative. Might i add, this is why theyre coming for independant "fake news" on social media and youtube. Because it eats mainstream media profit and more broadly, widens circulating opinion, typically with much less corporate policy support. Watch or read Naom Chomsky, you really do never see the way the media operates the same way again.

    Don't discount the effect of identity politics, because all the people under 35 I've talked to who voted liberal said they would never vote left out of disgust due to identity politics, PC culture etc. even though labour didn't go hard on social justice at all this election. The global failings of "the left" are having a terrible effect on the zeitgeist right now, the silent and ignorant majority is against the left for culture war reasons and not policy, and it sucks. But also the aus media. Your point stands.
