my father used to tell me that the CIA deposed Gough Whitlam and killed Harold Holt over Pine Gap - he used to be a bit of a survivalist nut so he would say the only reason we would ever get A-bombed (im nearly 40 so grew up during the tail end of the cold war) is because of Pine Gap, a high altitude explosion to generate an emp to knock out our communications.. i told one of my teachers in the 4th or 5th grade when we learned about the last 3 Prime Ministers and Edmund Barton for 30seconds and he laughed at me - which was really devastating because i was a straight A student who lived for approval, it was second time i lost faith in my father (the first was after i told my teacher that my dad told me that the moon seems like its following you because it rides an invisible bike.. i was 5) .. This video made me think of that moment with my teacher and I'm so glad my dad used to talk to me like an adult about these things, that teacher was a fkng idiot.. and the bike thing was pretty funny

I'm old enough to remember Gough and the way he dragged Australia kicking and screaming out of the 1950's mindset. It was a truly wonderful time to be young. Please never forget his Attorney General Lionel Murphy who caused outrage bringing in "no fault divorce, single parent pension" and so many other rights for every day Aussies. Sigh...He too was savaged by the media and conservatives for decades and died a sad figure.

COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA An American corporation left behind after WWII by USA, that is now your government. Operating in civil administrative law, which by definition only exists in the absence of a "native government" Australia is not a sovereign nation, we the men & women of the Commonwealth of Australia hold sovereignty. The sovereign men & women of the Commonwealth of Australia have nothing to do with the US corporation that is the administrative government of Australia, it's states & territories. That company claimed ownership of this land in commercial law, from the subsoil of the sea floor to the "High water line" Which the document implies is the landmass & everything upon it. In effect, that US corporation stole this land from us all. The Commonwealth is us men & women, we are the Commonwealth.

Frankly that's a really dumb idea, being a Republic would make us more vulnerable to foreign, more specifically US, influence. Reforming the British Empire using the Commonwealth Nations would enable the whole greater political & economic autonomy and stability. Brexit was good and allowed the UK the freedom to pursue something like this, unfortunately they instead got into bed with the US and are now under their heel. Likely this led to decisions like forming AUKUS, which on itself isn't a bad idea. However given the lack of wealth and power that we and the UK had entering into the agreement it's likely only favourable for the USA.

Unfortunately, though, when Victorian Trades Hall called a general strike for democracy against the dismissal, Gough Whitlam and Bob Hawke told workers to "maintain their rage" and go home. Despite what was happening, the ALP wanted to maintain an 'orderly' trade union movement rather than allowing workers to use their industrial muscle for such a purpose.

As an American citizen, you're on the frontlines of losing rights and health and work yourself. It's something that a global grassroots movement could probably handle, but the CIA and NSA would just dismantle that as it came up too. It will fall in time though, as all "great" empires do.

As a fat, stupid, parochial American catching up on this channel many years too late, I can say with some conviction that being a majority-white, clearly capital-friendly, anglophone country is no barrier to being violently fucked with by our ‘intelligence apparatus.’ I really appreciate Jordie because he’s not just fighting for the lesser of two clearly evil political parties (like here is the US), but advocates for an obviously superior, ‘center-left’ (read: communist by our standards), progressive thread of integrity within his Labor party. If the democrats were half as worthwhile as Labor (or even UK Labour), our democracy might have a fighting chance today. But it doesn’t. It’s falling apart before our very eyes. So I’m always interested to learn about the internal political dynamics of other countries, because we pretend like no one else in the world has ever made positive change, or had any good ideas, or is capable of setting an example for us.
