VOTE FOR THE SEGMENT NAME! www.strawpoll.me/17337105
The winner will be announced next Friday!
Thank you all so much to everyone who put forth a name for our media wrap up segment. While the poll above is a pretty extensive list, we unfortunately couldn't include every suggestion :(
Just know that much like when you're 7 years old and you ask your mum which child she likes the best: "I love you all equally, sweetheart."
In this video, we talk about the recent rounds of Change the Date media coverage - and New York Times journalist Bari Weiss' thoughts on Australia during a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience.

    @Toilet Gangster Yeah but America's demographics aren't very different. That are majority white too. If they makes Australia homogeneous so is the USA and the UK then and yet developed western countries are the most multicultural countries in the world. So how can we be considered homogeneous then? By that standard every country in the whole world is homogeneous.

  • @robbybobby6277

    @robbybobby6277

    4 жыл бұрын

    @Toilet Gangster Haha. Dude, nice play on words mate. But I know the demographics. It's not 60% white. It's 72% white. Some Hispanics are white Europeans, they're Spanish. So if you factor in everyone who identifies as white it is 72% white. White isn't an ethnicity mate, it's a skin tone. So stop making shit up to suit yourself. It's like saying all black people are African just coz they're black. That just is not how you look at ethnicity if you actually know what you're talking about. It's like saying all Semites must be Jewish. It's a logical fallacy. The term Hispanic is assigned to quite a few different ethnic backgrounds. It's just a group of people who use the Spanish language. They aren't all native to North or South America. Are you saying white Spanish people shouldn't identify as white? When they are actually white Europeans? You seem to have an issue with your own country mate. Idk what your problem is but we are clearly a multicultural society, either way. If you look at non western countries they are far more homogeneous. Which ever way you wish to look at it. I don't really give a fuck what your issues are but at least stick to the facts. What I find funny about Marxist wanks like you is that you're segregationist anyway. Marxists don't actually want multiculturalism and that's what all this black power shit is all about. Racial purity. That's the irony. I'm part Aboriginal hey but I'm white. Ethnicity isn't as clear cut as you'd like to think it is. There's no such thing as racial purity anymore. Most people are a mix of ethnic backgrounds. Nobody wants to admit that though coz that would ruin their narrative. If you want me to be really technical some Asians are part Aboriginal because they're native to Austroasian region. They are Negrito. People really need to stop acting like ethnic lines are easily defined. They're not. It's a lazy way of looking at things.

    you get your work mates to join with you and ask together. Thats it. Honestly the best ones are formed by the staff themselves. these days unions are trash because they are actually their own for profit companies effectively with people on staff eager to keep their paycheck. Depending where you are there can be legal forms to form official ones but none of that really matters. what matter is you and your work mates unite and ask as one for something shifting the power from the boss to the union.

    THIS MAKES ME SO FUCKING MAD If there's going to be a world superpower do you want a country that by no means is not perfect but where you have the freedom to express your dissatisfaction. A country where rule of law, free values(speech, press, religion, assembly, etc) and democracy are promoted over a total authoritarian state. China is not our friend, a trade partner but not our friend. America is not the only victim to malicious trade practises, currency devaluation, theft of trade secrets and an unfair disadvantages of Australian businesses trying to operate in China. America is not trying to provoke a conflict in the South China Sea, China has bullied it's way into an expansionist policy. This was the same in 1939 when no one stood up to Germany annexing Czechoslovakia. If America didn't stand up for south east Asia what stops China from just taking the South China Sea? Not to mention the amount of influence the Chinese Communis Party has in our parliament from bought out politicians.

    @Jack Ryan China’s expansionism and imperialism is much better than the US,China still hasn’t invaded a country in 40 years,while the US is embroiled in over 8 public conflicts,key word public as the US hires mercanaries to do multiple other operations around the world specially in Africa.China has one military base in Africa while the US has over 900 military bases all over the world,those being again the public ones as the US has likely 1300 in total.Also the US has a much stronger dark money connection in Aussie politics than China.Though America internally respects free speech more than China usually externally the US is the biggest sponsor of right wing dictatorships and in many cases the ones who get them in power.

    Such as naive perspective. US and China operate as any other superpower does - for their own interest. To think that the USA interferes in the South China Sea because of some sort of altruistic, globo-egalatarian sentiment, is infantile. The difference between USA and China is that China practice what they preach - America makes speeches about freedom and autonomy while they have have been violating other country's sovereignty since the 1940's. So miss me with shit brother! "This makes me so fucking mad" - what are you, interviewing for Buzzfeed? Australia should do what is the best interest of Australians. It is amazing that you bring up 1939 about Germany annexing Czechoslovakia but not even in the CIA's manufactured 'Coup de-tat' in Iran in 1953? Majoring Selective History?

But in 1938 the UK had invaded most of the world at one point or another but Nazi Germany had not, does this make Germany more peaceful and less of a threat? The US has bases all over the world, but what do they use them for? To carry greater political weight and limit dangers to the current world order(expansionist countries, extremism, etc). Djibouti is not the only foreign Chinese base, what about the artificial ones constructed in the SCS to bully small countries to get what they want?

    @Jack Ryan China is not invading anyone,getting a couple more areas at sea?Sure,but the US and other countries have sea disputes all the time,does that make Bolivia which ask the UN to give them a bit of sea coast the next Nazi Germany?Also the US unlike China has actual literal concentration camps for immigrants,not re-education camps which to be clear are not good but their better than being one step before a holocaust.And do you actually believe that?That the US bases are made to stop expansionism?By whom?Nicaragua?Colombia?Afghanistan?Most US bases are in Latin America,whom are they meant to stop from expanding,Cuba?Dont be stupid,the only modern expansionist nation is the US,it was the US which invaded,Syria,Libya,Iraq,Vietnam and so many other countries in this century and they don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.Remember the news on Iran and the US wanting to get in a war over there and the WW3 memes?Those weren’t just memes bud we could have been in WW3 so the “freedom loving” US could have given their multi national donors a couple more barrels of oil,and it wasn’t just Iran now we also have Venezuela to worry about.You know I don’t see China killing US diplomats in foreign countries with drone strikes.You are really naive if you think the US Armed Forces is some sort of force for good for the world at the moment,spoiler alert,their not.Not saying China is a freedom loving country that’s Switzerland or something,but their sure closer to it than the US.

    Good commentary overall, though your bit on China is a bit off. I absolutely agree that we should do more to engage with China and that is a key reason why I'm voting Labor next election (among other things). However it should be noted that the reason we stick with the US comes down to national security. We require safe and secure sea lanes (which run to China, Japan, etc) which we lack the naval power to protect in full. Therefore we ally with the US, the dominant maritime power. Additionally the US will retain this superpower role for some time and shares key values that Australians generally share (such as liberty and democracy) that China does not, as seen with it's supression of muslim minorities, it's social credit system and it's internationally illegal island building. While China may be growing it is not free of risk. In fact a coming water crisis in South Asia and ongoing economic/military pressure only threatens to destabilise the country. Finally it's military could in no way stand toe to toe with a (mobilised) American-led military alliance, particularly if America calls in the support of NATO. I agree China should be engaged with and that it should not be absolutely contained, as is the current strategy. However to say that we only ally with America because "the Liberal government" is a corporate stand in is incorrect. We ally because of values and more importantly, national security insurance. EDIT: Check the CaspianReport's video on Australian geopolitics. It's monotonous and all, but it gives a good rundown as to why we will continue to ally with the United States.

  • @friendlyjordies

    @friendlyjordies

    5 жыл бұрын

    I don't reckon. See this is the whole point about the sea lanes. Chinas argument is that it's their backyard so they should control them. I agree, they're going to be the regional power. And whether the US likes it or not China will control them sooner rather than later. This is what I'm saying about making sure we're there writing the new rules. Kevin Rudd and Paul Keating saw this coming 25 years ago. They set up bodies and departments for regional cooperation. The Liberals barely engage in it because the US doesn't want us to and they are too stupid to see what's clearly happening/have no back bone. See these military engagement scenarios are such an american view point. China doesn't think like this. I mean they have military aspirations sure, but they're not interested in global military control like the US is. They're interested in trade. You can say there's some conspiracy theory of "that's what they WANT you to think" but no, it's pretty obvious by the statements countries make and their actions what they want. I mean it really is no secret that the US are an extremely combative super power, invading some 70 odd countries since WW2 while the countries china has invaded are those it has a historic claim to/ when it comes to the south China sea, again this is China marking it's territory. That's their back yard. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but what the scenario is. Essentially they're saying these are our trade routes. They are 1.4 billion people with an economy that will surpass the US's by the 2020's getting pushed around by 300 million half way across the world. It's not going to be like this for very long. Hahahaha no one's saying you rip up the ANZUS treaty. You couldn't even if you wanted to. We're the only serious European country in the region (sorry NZ).It's like how France has been extremely critical of the US, still best of friends. But to pretend like the Liberals are that we're beholden to it like it's just after World War 2 and that we have to have whatever foreign policy they wish is moronic, and worst of all is wasting valuable time. I agree with Rudd and Keating, do everything you can to engage China, have a primo seat in rewriting the rules of the region, we were the ones that got the ball rolling under Keating with ASEAN, John Howard abdicated the roll, Rudd tried to pick it up again, and the Liberals have no fucken idea. They virtually don't have a policy

    @@friendlyjordies I agree we should have a better strategy/policy regarding China, as opposed to just following the US. There is the beginnings of one with the "Pacific Pivot," though from a big picture look at it, it just seems as though the US wants us to pick up the slack in the South Pacific so it, Japan and the other big economies can play power. The key problem is that we lack the military to stand up for ourselves, which is why we are beginning to invest a ton into it. You look at recent (shockingly long-term) naval shipbuilding plans and other procurements and you see Australia becoming a strong (although still small) military force. At the moment "classic" hornet fighters and patrol frigates won't cut it, especially as Indonesia also grows (which is again another subject in it's own right, alongside South Asia). All I'm trying to say is that regardless of Labor or Liberal, there will be similar national security/geopolitical goals, even if they are slightly different in allignment. Labor seems to forego military spending in favour of diplomacy; Liberal seems to forego diplomacy in favour of military spending. Take your pick. Personally I don't see China reaching a dominant global position. Trump's term may wavered commitment to the US, but it has nonetheless also placed China in a bad spot with regards to trade conflict and military pressure. This is in addition to ongoing domestic problems in China (including economically) that the US will take advantage of. Long-term your also looking at the growth of ASEAN, particularly Indonesia, something we should be paying more attention to. In summary, we'll stick with US so long as they have dominance and I don't see China emerging as true superpower like the US.

    China is already under immense media scrutiny by Western Mainstream Media, read any major news source ABC, Fairfax, Murdoch etc. All you read is about the continued Chinese 'invasion' and spreading influence. The real media scrutiny should be on the US. For all the current human rights violations seen in the media in China, as many go by unreported or barely reported in the US. Australia has spent a long time under US control and it is a hard shift for some people to take however China will remove the US as the world superpower in the 21st century, in the same way that the US removed Britain in the 20th century. Your point on intellectual property is somewhat misinformed. To use Huawei as an example, the media only focuses on the claims by US firms and government. However these claims are actually unevidenced, on the other hand Huawei has been under attack by the US for a lot of its intellectual properties and patents, Huawei 5G as an example. This comes not from Huawei or China but a former Senior CIA Member. The Mainstream Western Media has portrayed a storyline that plays into America's overall world playbook however this portrayal leaves key facts out of it

The US have missiles and military all over the world and all around China...China haven’t got missiles around the US. Your assumption seems to be that China is just another 'normal' country we can negotiate with like if we were negotiating with another democracy.That's just not true. They're a single party dictatorship intent on subjugating their neighbours and creating rent seeking opportunities (see the South China Sea conflict) So therefore it actually makes sense for Australia and other like minded democracies in the region (like Japan, India, The United States etc..) to work together to push back against China's aggression. Also in doing so, that co-operation improves the negotiating position of Australia and other democracies in those negotiations with China that you mentioned.

As long as we keep relations with China good we have a great economic opportunity for many years. China will as jordies says become the leader of the new world order. Its about how we position ourselves as a important economic part of that in their eyes. If we can do that we have nothing to fear from them taking over or trying to destroy our democracy as it isn't in their interests either.

The 26th of January is an arbitrary date chosen to commentate two events anyway, one happening a week prior and the other happening 11 days later. (The arrival of the first fleet and the formal settlement of New South Wales respectively). It also wasn’t a nationally recognised public holiday until 1994. There are also many other dates to choose from. The Australia Acts (The Formal separation of Australia from British government) commenced on 3/3, the first federal parliament opened on 9/5, Queen Victoria assented to the Australian Constitution on 9/7. There’s also Wattle Day 1/9 and even Mate 8/5. These are all fantastic options to take over the formalities of Australia Day.

    He is too biased to be considered educational in my opinion. Such as in his other video he said the Liberal government of NSW wasn’t creating jobs but the fact is they are and it is due to the significant rise in infrastructure in the Sydney area. The parts of his video where he doesn’t talk about politics can be considered educational to an extent but during his political discussions it is obvious he has his own agenda.

    Love your work and I'm a big fan of the channel, keep it up. My view is that Australia is going to have (and needs to have) a very big recession in the short term; and interest rates absolutely have to come up. The cost of business is too high, our housing market is in a giant bubble and that's going to pop soon, it's already deflating although COVID isn't the cause of all of this. Keeping interesting rates low is to promote spending, yet they never raised them again... you can't keep stimulating the economy; we need to balance it out else you get too much inflation. The biggest issue in Australia (in my opinion) is the debt burden. Australia's debt burden is 120% of our GDP, far too high... we're copying American monetary policy and it's a real problem. A huge amount of Australian's live week to week with credit cards and struggle to make repayments; even struggle to pay for the essentials, let alone have any cash savings... and the country borrows money from practically anyone who will loan to it for it's projects. All of these COVID-19 benefits like JobKeeper & the JobSeeker upgrade, it's all being paid for with borrowed money which we all need to repay with interest. Obviously COVID-19 is special circumstances, really it is the time for government to step in and help... the problem is they've spent so much money intervening previously in things they shouldn't have... hence we need to borrow more money to fund this difficult situation. So I'm not saying the support government is putting in now is not important... I'm just saying that we all need to pay for this and we will be paying for it, with interest for years to come. If the states had to pay for it off their own bat, I don't think some of the decisions that have been made would have been made the same way. Image you're paying someone elses JobKeeper through your own Visa card... you're going to be looking a lot closer at the fine print; rather than just taking the quick cash injections. For Australia to really start to thrive again we need less credit (particularly in consumer spending on things like TV's and consumer electronics), we need the government to repay it's debts and individuals and corporations to start to be able to save again. No elected prime minister wants to be the one who puts the country on a credit diet though; it's going to be painful for everyone... but it's a necessary evil; and I think we're all going to be in for a world of hurt in the short term because it hasn't happened yet. No party wants to be responsible for a recession, even if it's a necessary one. We need less credit, less borrowing, less government... a good government is a minimalist government. Let businesses (especially Australian owned business) be the efficient driver in fixing the economic challenges Australia faces. Just my rant... cheers! Keep up the great work, I genuinely enjoy the channel...

    To be fair the reason we can support universal healthcare is because we have a small population, the cost of supporting that is a lot lower than it would be in the US, and you really just cant apply that to a massive nation. Though our healthcare system certainly has its problems, I dislocated my kneecap and had shards of bone floating in the joint that prevented healing and could've lead to severed tendons but I was on a waiting list for pretty urgent surgery for about a year or two, I ended up just coughing up the money for private because I didn't want to sleep on my back in agony for 2 years straight

    *pleb comment incoming* I may be uninformed here, but I am hoping to incite a discussion where I learn more about the subject. I respect friendlyjordies, he is always well researched and entertaining, so when in this video I found that what I thought to know as fact was conflicting with what he said, I began to write what I thought I knew as the current political climate here to try to find out more: I don't think we have a say in the outcome of the future of China and Australia's mutual wellbeing. China regularly proves it's disregard for human rights domestically, and shows signs of bearing a similar attitude to its neighbouring countries. I also don't think that Australia is directly provoking China with any of it's actions, but taking a zero tolerance stance against passive/aggressive jabs from China. Australia's reaction to China's military presence in the South China Sea is the go to example, when Australia didn't pretend not to notice that China was in breach of several agreements and let China know that it wasn't ok to do that. Another example is the media that is disseminated from China. One Chinese state media organisation casually remarks among other things, that if Australia continues to get all hot under the collar at China's actions, then they will simply restrict the amount of Australian imports, potentially crippling our country.

    I hear what you are saying, the way I am interpreting it is > “I Don't think that negotiating with China will mean they respect us 100%, or that they don't try to use political means to implement their own vision of the world on us without our consent” Would you say that is fair? I personally agree with that statement, but I think there are steps we can take to reduce the ability of hostile powers to subvert our democracy and nation. Starting with: -opening negotiation on terms that are favourable to us (while they will be willing to negotiate). -Using these negotiations to understand their objectives and wants. -Giving resources and power back to the citizens of our Nation, so they as a whole can can fight off political and external oppression (e.g. have a UBI, so that people have the freedom to leave abusive environments and look after themselves, their communities and their long-term interests) Is China going to be nice to us? Fuck no. Do you think we earned the moral high-ground to have them treat us like a long-lost cousin? Look at us bugging a Timor-embassy, Invading the middle East and fighting in every US war. The world does not run on “niceness” it runs on power and attention. The solution is for us to give our citizens the power and resources they need to flourish. That gives them the incentive to fight of invaders and oppressors.
