I know people go straight for Nazis in online arguments, but I donated because I genuinely felt that it was a crossroads point where if I didn't, I was no better than your average german turning a blind eye to their neighbours getting hauled away after gestapo stalking hitjobs back in the 30s. As a history major at University, I couldn't watch that slippery slope in my sense of morality and social justice.

I like Paul Barry generally but heavily disliked how he handled Jordies case. He talked about him like he was a naughty kid, and that had no place in what should be an objective view of current media events. He disclosed his connections and former employment with Crikey before the relevant segment which I think was fine. How he spoke about the Crikey case was fine, he just should have extended that to Jordies case as well. The hypocrisy is disappointing.

I couldn’t agree more. Mostly due to the fact that he acts so high and mighty when it comes to the failures of others. If anything, he should probably quote them less so given his relation to them so he can clearly show he has ‘no bias’. Maybe we expect too much of people who we pay large wages to?

decades ago (yes I'm that old) Media Watch was ruthless, back in the days when news media was all about reporting facts. Nowadays news media gorges on opinion pieces and Media Watch has softened a lot. I guess it's probably hard to go hard at the media when it's all about opinions rather than facts and everyone is suing everyone else over everything said now. I still watch it because it does dish out a good deal of sass at the Murdoch media, especially Sky News, which never fails to make me smile. It's not perfect and there's a lot of room for improvement, but if more people watched it there might be a few less gullible people that believe everything they hear and read from the "news" and gain a bit of healthy scepticism.

There's nothing wrong with being an activist. Jordies is an activist, one of the best in the country, perhaps even the most important right now. The problem isn't that Crikey hires activists, it's that it hires idiots. Dishonest idiots. Most of their journos couldn't find their own arse with a map, much less navigate the murky waters of political corruption and insidious right wing disinformation campaigns that are slowly turning this country into a mirror of the failed United States. They start with a conclusion and work their way back to the premise, they cherry pick the evidence that suits them and discard anything that might disconfirm their worldview, they bend and break their supposed principles whenever it suits them - they're intellectually dishonest and morally bankrupt, just like practically every media organisation in this country.

He "claimed his interests" exactly so you would say that. That's not honourable. It gives off the illusion that he's going to be impartial and down the line in his report because he's "being very conscious of his bias and compensating for it". Nothing could be further from the truth. First off it's the first I've ever heard of his shares in Crikey's parent company. It all of a sudden makes a lot of sense how he's always popping up their piece of shit articles and pretending they're gospel like the one they wrote about how supposedly cashed up I am based on guess work worse than celebritynetworth.com. Never declared that before. That's a free plug for a terrible news source that exists off of a slimy marketing strategy which seems to include Paul Barry using a public broadcaster to plug a company that he partially owns on the so called "media watch" of all places. If he was even remotely what he purports to be which is this watchdog on the rest of the press, (even though he's on a mainstream broadcaster and is mates with half the people in the press - yeah he's really holding them to account), don't you think he'd point out what Independent Australia did which is that it's a racket of a business that lies to its readers about being "independent", portraying itself as this struggling mom and pop news stand when nothing could be further from the truth? How does Paul Barry portray them? In his own words this "David" in a "David and Goliath battle" that could stand to lose millions WITH A SHOUT OUT TO ITS GO FUND ME FOR FUCKS SAKE! ON - A - PUBLIC - BROADCASTER! It's not noble, it's PR. You saw the stance he took when it was against me facing a similar situation - it's about as obvious as when A Current Affair does a story on "the advantages of living above a Coles" (when they're sponsored by Coles) and then a story on "why woolworths select is so much more expensive than Coles brand products" (when they're not sponsored by woolies). The only reason people think Media watch is any different is because it's talking about newspaper articles no one reads as opposed to deliberately pissing off a panel beater. Media Watch is again yet another of these shows on the ABC that people think is this noble, holier than thou entity because it constantly advertises itself as this noble holier than thou entity. That's all. It's just advertising and no one big enough to damage their self appointed reputation calls them out on it. Independent Australia does though. All the time. And unlike Paul Barry I'm not shouting them out as this independent outlet that does great journalism because I have a stake in it. I don't. @@Sanguinarius9999 Paul Barry did, but I didn't notice until Jordies video that there is a bit of a worrisome chasm between Barry's perspectives on defamation when it affects a publication he likes (Crikey) versus one he's suspicious of (Jordies). I do appreciate both sides have made me think about the issue. Does appear that the old guard (Barry, Crikey et al) are unfairly biased against Jordies, which, frankly, isn't all that surprising given the derision some older people show to KZread commentators. So glad Jordan wore the Luigi costume. That's absolutely one for the history books, hahaha. But really, it's notable in the history of Australia, _at the very least_ being a random photo in a textbook margin. Politicians are so concerned about image, the costumes really throw them off, haha. Plus it's a good way to be like "yeah of course he looks like a clown, he's wearing a costume" to take away an angle of spin that media loves to use. Sort of like how some politicians accuse others of what they themselves are doing, so that when it comes back to them they can go "oh now you're just mocking me" or whatever. Works way too well, as the past few years have shown us.
