The TRUTH About Ab Wheels

★ The ab wheel I use: amzn.to/3xF0EqA
In this video I explain why the truth behind the ab wheel and why it often gets a bad reputation from a lot of fitness influencers and KZread creators. Honestly, I think it comes down to the name "ab wheel." If this equipment had a more descript name, something like "anterior tension wheel" or something like that, then no one would have any reason to knock it. But instead, I see all these videos saying ab wheels don't give you abs, or "watch out for these ab wheel mistakes!" and it's all a bunch of nonsense if you ask me. I think having an ab roller is a great idea for anyone looking to build a strong core and start grasping the concept of total body tension. Thanks for watching and I hope enjoy the video!

When I was 15 years old I had a Brain abscess and spinal meningitis. I almost died. Surgery had to be done to remove the brain abscess and I was partially paralyzed on the right hand side of my body. I am 55 years of age now. I have used the wheel for over 20 years. I know that I do not always use the wheel correctly because of my coordination and strength issues on the right hand side of my body but I still see results in different areas of my body that are good. Thank you for letting people know that you do not have to use the will perfectly to see and feel good results. My body is toned, no love handles and my flat chest does touch the floor when doing the wheel. When using the wheel a person will definitely feel those muscles working. Even a little pain. Thank you.

I can actually help you. I was a bodybuilder and powerlifter, I broke my neck, lost my right pec major, a triceps head and many connective and evening muscles in my body. Find a ab wheel that has more support, they do sell them, they do the same exact thing, exceot they have the added support if one arm is weaker then the other. I mostly use a normal wheel , but I have times when I will lose strengh for whatever reason in my right side, mostly my hand and triceps, so I have another that doesn't require the arm balance if that makes sense.

Better use your paws than the wheel. At least, you won't lose control when extending over and finish the face biting the ground

I have been using the wheel for over 40 years. I can do the roll out from my feet. I do them twice a week. I think it is worth mentioning that if you have never done them before, go easy in the beginning. The wheel can create soreness like you have never had before. Fair warning. Good Video. Thank you.

I love my Ab Wheel. Actually have two, one for the home gym and one for when I travel. The home gym version is rather large (ca. 12") and has foot supports. The travel one is by Perfect Fitness, but it's the first version that is small like most Ab Wheels but double wide for stability. And it has a chain drive inside that gives a slight bit of assistance on the way back.

You can activate muscles within your extensions and really develop your core. I utilize this as well as the door frame pull up bar and free weights at home. If you use proper form that you need with all exercises; this piece of equipment gives you what you want fast and consistent.

5:13 I prefer exactly the opposite: the thinner wheels because unstability will activate the core muscles (eg. obliques) even more. Some very advanced athletes like Ross Enamait even do one arm standing wheel roll-outs, which is the ultimate core destroyer.

  • @ljp3639

    @ljp3639

    2 жыл бұрын

If I want to train my abs I want to put as much attention on them as I possibly can, when using thinner ab wheels the obliques might be the limiting factor, hindering the progress with my abs. Like a narrow pull up transfers the limiting factor from the back to the arms, a thinner ab wheel takes this away from the abs. If you want to train a muscle you have to make it the limiting factor, and this why wider ab wheels are superior in this regard.

So true Ryan. I can highly recommend the Rogue Ab Wheel (not affiliated). I had a typical £10 ab wheel for years. Do you need more, no. Works great. But most have thin hard plastic handles which can be uncomfortable. The Rogue ab wheel on the other hand, while expensive for an ab wheel, is worth it for the quality (it has bearings in an ab wheel!) and the thicker and more comfortable handles. It just makes it more fun to use and thus you enjoy it more and use it more. Hope this helps and keep up the great channel.

@GavinBrown. I know your post is a couple of years ago now but I am glad I read it. I did some research and most ab wheels seem cheap and poorly made. I have been looking for something well constructed that will last and have just ordered the Rogue. Returned my £15 one from amazon. Yes it is pricey the Rogue but you get what you pay for. Thanks for the tip.

The major problem with the ab wheel is that most individuals use their hip flexors way too much as well as their arms. You need to flex the spine in order to contract the abs, but holding it rigid isn't optimal for the core contraction. You might get some development, but make sure you get that "cat" pose contraction and not just go back and forth.

People put down everything. And it's exceptional noticeable in the workout community from my point of view. "No, you're doing it wrong" and my response is almost always, "if the person isn't actively causing an injury, they are at least doing something. Calm down"

Better than an ab wheel is: I do things tile pushups and hanging rows in gymnastic rings. With the rings at a fairly low hight, stretch the arms forwad ina typical "roll-out" movement. Its very easy to change the load by leaning more or less. The trouble with ab wheels is that its difficult tovary the load. I use ring rollout mostly as a warmup. My real abs training is hanging leg lifts. That’s for me is the only abs exercise that really feels like it's doing something.

What you could discuss about cons with the wheel is that it might give some pain in the lower back and how to avoid that. :)

I suppose the cross bar could be called an axel? Nothing personal, but is it this puter or what makes white circles around his pupils? Never seen that before. I like the guy. Subscribed.

A little story: I lift barbells, cross fit etc since 2013 in my 60's now and decent shape and I found my son's ab wheel lying around and tried it and fell flat on my face! I started swinging clubs and maces about 3 years ago and found the ab wheel lying around again last year - and boom ab roll out no problem - then I did a standing roll out! All the way out to tip toes and all the way back. Only change in my program was the maces and clubs. Then I made my own ab wheel with parts off of Amazon.

There is no fixed number. Just treat it as a practice and go by how you feel. You can start with 3 sets if you need some guidelines. 3 sets, as many reps as you can muster (with the best form possible). See how sore you get. Aim to do that 3x a week and work on improving form and number of repetitions. But if you feel up to doing more, go for it.
