The Calisthenics Master That Time Forgot
Do you know about Jack LaLanne? He was a fitness guru from the 20th century who did a lot more than just promote gyms. He was a master of calisthenics. An absolute BEAST. And more importantly, he influenced millions of people to exercise in their homes and eat a healthier diet. In this video, I cover everything from Jack LaLanne's approach to working out to his diet, his amazing feats of strength, his power juicer, and more. He was a huge inspiration for me, so I made this video for 2 reasons: (1) to carry on his legacy for anyone who didn't know about him, and (2) to show you guys where a lot of my inspiration comes from for MTG. I hope you guys enjoy this different type of video!

I, too, grew up watching Jack on TV. I was 6 or 7 y.o. and would follow along, doing the exercises. My mother thought it was so cute. I'm now 66, in great shape from regular workouts, and free of any and all medications. Jack LaLanne was a great role model and I am grateful for his influence. Keep up the good work!

@Sicilian eye. That's great. Far too many don't embrace a healthy life style and their senior years are filled with sickness, doctors and medications. Good for you. Guessing you're of Sicilian descent. Me too. Both parents. Siracusa, Sicily.
I'm 72 and was a big Jack Lalane fan. After some trouble, I used Jack's examples to get myself up to 1000 push ups and sit ups every other day while locked up. That core fitness served me well when I got out and led to a life of fitness pursuits. Thanks Jack!
I watched Jack with my Mom in the late 50's. It was my special time with Mom and inspired me to exercise my whole life. I'm now 70 still work out regularly thanks to Jack. All on a little 13 inch black and white TV

Thanks! And yeah, Jack’s energy was infectious, for sure 😊
He was my hero. I grew up watching him on TV in the morning before school. There's a hotel in Orlando that has a 50s theme. We stayed there for a few nights and its gym was Jack LaLanne themed. It had his tv shows running constantly on the tv and all the equipment was from his era. It even had his coverall suits on display.

My grandfather went to school with Jack LaLanne and was friends with him for a very long time! A class act and a physical specimen. At 58, I watched his television shows as a kid at my grandparent’s house ,growing up in San Francisco . RIP Jack !!

I watched Jack as a kid in the 60s. He was easy to appreciate. I too am 66 years old, have been training since I was 7, and am very fit in great health with no drugs other than coffee. Jack shared knowledge, but he exemplified wisdom.

Jack is definitely old school cool. A legend in fitness.
My deepest bow to you for keeping Jack in the memory of the new generations...He has inspired millions...not only for his strenght feats but also for his positive view on life. Jack deserves a movie telling his story and his methods, Thanks again buddy, I will never forget your kindest and wisest words when I was very ill. Peace and Blessings!! 🙂
I remember him doing tv interviews and selling products or whatever when he was in his 90s and he was still very strong and fit in his 90s.

Yeah, the dude was a machine. He didn’t stop until the day he died. I heard pneumonia got him, but only because he was stubborn and didn’t go to the doctor. Had he got antibiotics for it he probably would’ve made it past 100.

@@MinusTheGym no doubt. He must have had a lot of healthy mitochondria from his muscle tissue. Heck, even if he had taken NAC he might have pulled through his lung infection. But older people need some extra help against pneumonia related infections, no doubt about it. Take antibiotics when you must. It’s not a big deal. Great channel. Thank you so much.
Jack is the godfather of fitness;a true icon

I remember as a boy, playing sick from school watching Jack Lalanne on tv, working out along with him. He turns to the camera and says you're doing it wrong. I believed he was actually talking to me. It freaked me out. A commercial came on and I turned the channel. I never watched his show again.
Yes I remember him. Amazing man. Another fitness proponent that we never hear about is Charles Atlas.
I used to watch Jacks fitness show. He got me to do calisthenics. Still doing them at 64. God bless Jack L.

I sure remember Jack Lalanne. I'd watch his morning exercise program when I was home sick from school. He had the most positive attitude ever.
I’m 51 and do my best at keeping fit and healthy. I really just wanted to share with everyone how inspiring it is to see such a range of ages in the comments on this video!
I grew up watching his show and working out with my mom. Great memories!
I have no idea about that guy, but I can notice he was amazing! I recently started with calisthenics and I feel ten years younger. Peace to everyone!!
Jack LaLanne Power Juicer!!!
Superstar of superstars.
Jack’s feats of strength and endurance are totally insane, he dragged a boat across San Francisco Bay with the rope in his teeth and just kicking, no arm pulls, the guy was totally nuts, I’ve never heard of anyone doing even a couple of his feats
im 26, didnt know who he was till today... crazy guy. Great video
As a little kid in the 60's, I watched him and his wife most days. My mom always had him on. I remember his wife and his 2 white German Shepherds.
Great video, I've read that he actually smoked Arnold at pushups not pullups but who knows, no doubt Jack was an incredible human being physically
Outstanding! My sincere and heartfelt THANK YOU for keeping alive the name of a true Pioneer in the field of Fitness, and the Fitness Life Style. Thank you for that tribute. It’s good to know that this generation is looking back for inspiration. Jack was one of my main inspirations that motivated me to pursue a career in health and fitness. Your tribute actually reminded me of that fact, and was very informative as well.
Millennial (28-years-old). Yes, I have heard of Jack prior to this video. He was amazing.
Thanks for your generous memorial to Jack LaLanne. I sure do remember him. As a kid I would do calisthenics in front of the B&W television the size of a toaster. I am sorry to say that I stopped exercising for some years in the middle. But I am happy to say that I now work out every day with kettlebells, heavy clubs, maces, and calisthenics. Exercise is magic .
Excellent video & yes Jack Lalaine has been a major influence on me. I’ll be 67 this year & I have a workout routine; that suits me well. I remember watching “The Jack Lalaine Show” As a young boy. I’m so glad that I’ve made the decision, to take good care of myself.😃❤️👍🏽
Excellent coverage. I weekly do 5-800 push ups and my kids watch, in Summer 160 pull ups. In Summer i try for more but its gettin tuff, no trt lol.. but not against it..I knew of Jack thru dad.. Legendary leader
I love Jack. He got me into fitness as a kid. Thanks for posting this video.
I just found your channel. I grew up during the era of Jack Lalanne. I have the original Charles Atlas course, after watching my father do pushups between three chairs at 4 AM, as a Charles Atlas student. He would then walk miles to work. I used to powerlift, but now at 73 years old I am returning to home bodyweight training. I look forward to your enjoying your channel.

Great video - Jack LaLanne was amazing!
Cool vid, thanks!
Great memories. Thanks
I'm 60, and a big fan of Jack LaLanne. I remember his show on TV when I was little, as well as his various tv appearances over the decades. And don't forget his gym commercials starring Rachel McKlish! What I got most from Jack was being in it - health and fitness - for the long haul. Not just some period of my life in my 20's & 30's. And NOT just being some strong guy who can press heavy weights for a couple of reps, but is otherwise a limited mobility guy. I see LOTS of guys my age and a bit younger in the gym who fir that description. Jack showed me that you can be physically fit for a very long time, as long as you take care of yourself. And it doesn't cost a lot.
Thank you for this
So glad you’re keeping his legacy alive!!
I grew up watching Jack every Saturday morning. Him and his German Shepard. I discovered that I was good at pushups and such exercises, and I do and enjoy them to this very day. Thank you, Jack!
Wonderful Jack. Thanks
Great video on a fitness legend. Yes I know who Jack was and I remember him fondly. Thanks for the homage. World class and stood alone. Shakra, Ron
If anyone deserved to live to 100, it was Jack LaLanne 😎👍
I watch Jack with my grandad ( also named Jack) he had a bookstore and had a gym set up in his back room of his store. That ( and Bruce Lee) definitely helped set the tone for my fitness life. Thank you for honoring him. Thank you Jack L and Grandpa Jack!

I started watching Jack Lalanne when I began weight training in 1964. I found his basic calisthenics program blended well with weights and most of all, I got a food shot of motivation from listening to him. He was a fitness pioneer and the father of physical fitness training. How many know that the jumping Jack exercise, originally called straddle hops was named after Jack Lalanne? Great man. RIP Jack
Don't forget Charles Atlas his Dynamic Tension exercises got me hooked on fitness at a early age. I remember Jack LaLanne show when I was 4 years old. His show came on every weekday morning. I had no idea he was such a athletic super-human. At 66 years old just seeing this video made me pack my bag and head to the gym. Which I usually do 5 days a week. Thanks for the vivid memories of my mother and I watching his show.
If Jack were in his prime now..... I'd bet he'd win the Crossfit Open
Nice video, I remember him "hybrid" exercises
Totally Jack inspired me 100% and he made me the man I am today and still train like Jack. He is a living hero!!!
A splendid tribute to a fitness icon. There was no one then that could bring fitness or wholesome eating to the forefront with such vigor or enthusiasm that Jack brought to the table. He was a star then and today would be no different. RIP Jack. You are missed.
Another flipping informative video. I didn’t know Frank but will get to know.
An incredible man. I’m glad I got to watch him.
That brought a smile to my face. Oh the memories.
I remember his show, his wife, and his white shepherd. Not to mention his amazing feats of fitness :-) Watched him all the time. Thanks for doing this video!
Great video, I love you talked about the importance of vegetables juicing, Bruce Lee also did that!
I remember Jack on TV! Mainly as the exercise guy. Only recently have I appreciated what he did all those years
I watched his TV show as a kid. Inspired me to live a life of health. He also promoted good nutrition on his show. Nice tribute! to an inspirational man and legendary icon of fitness. He would not like seeing what youth today are consuming and how sedentary they've become . . .
Great video brother
Firstly, this is the first video I've seen from you and this was great! I always have been interested in the history of fitness, and this video was very informative. Thank you for this video! Secondly, I'm 23 years old and I have never heard of Jack, and I would think not many of my comrades have either. Although I should say that I am not american, so it also could be a cultural thing since I doubt Jack's program was ever aired here in Finland. But I must say, it was great hearing about Jack and also about your channel - all the best to you!
I remember Jack and his wife very well. I loved their show.
I never heard about this athlete but he was the real deal
I watched Jack growing up as well. He inspired me to be healthier and fit. Thank you for sharing his story. Jack was a legend. I met his grandson who owns a CrossFit gym. I didn't get to meet Jack personally but I will be forever grateful. I am 66 and a Trainer now 😊
I actually was fortunate to know of Jack Lalanne as a kid through my grandmother. My grandmother was a MASSIVE Jack Lalanne fan and used to watch him when she came here from Puerto Rico. She would tell me how she would do the exercises he would do via television. And she definitely got the juicer would did make her healthier until she had to go. Jack Lalanne was an amazing human being!
What a great video. Thanks. Every morning in elementary school (1970s) I'd come downstairs to find my Mom doing calisthenics with Jack. Squats were called deep knee bends and she did them well into her 80s when she started to call them her deep NEED bends! What a great memory! Thanks Ryan.
jack lalanne was awesome. i remember jack using a chair as a prop for many of the exercises he did on tv. my mom used to do exercises along with the show.
LEGEND 💯💯💯
I was a kid in the 70's and had heard of Jack, but I never saw his show. I probably saw a juicer commercial here and there, but not his show. And the pull-up contest you mentioned is actually pretty easy to believe, as there are many bodyweight athletes that can do more pull-ups than body builders. People associate size with being able to do more than lift heavy weights, but that isn't usually the case.
I know who Jack Lalanne is! Used to see his infomercials when I was a kid in the 90s. And I remember his birthday feats. Thanks so much for this lovely tribute to him. (And thanks to my brother for sending me this link!) ❤🎉
excellent thanks
Great video.
inspirational
Watched as a kid. There are a lot of Jack stories, and he was one of the first modern health fanatics on Venice Beach and was a lifeguard there! His main aerobic exercise was swimming (1 hr/d) which was usual for a body builder. Look for the famous pic of the sun setting over Venice beach dunes with 4 guys in formation, one in backward arch on bottom and the 3 other on each others shoulders on the first. One of them is Jack and another was Bill Pearl. Word is that Mark Wallberg is working on a LaLanne movie.
I used to go to Jackilane health club in Brooklyn back in 80s
Thank you!

@ Minus The Gym!! He also invented the jumping Jack!! This guy was Like No Other!!!
Never heard of him before Awesome man!
Loved his jump suits. Icon in the health and fitness culture.
Yes, Jack LaLanne was my earliest physical fitness influence. I remember my grandmother always watching him and trying to follow along on some of his exercises. I read one of his books when I started working out seriously as a teenager and making smoothies with a blender, though I don't think they were called smoothies back then. I tried adding wheat germ and other "strange" ingredients Jack recommended. He was inspirational to the end.
I remember seeing Jack LaLane on TV when I was a kid in the early 60's. The clip at 6 minutes is just like what I remember.
When I was a boy in the 1970's I would watch his show on TV (in black and white) and would follow along and do the exercises.
Yes I saw him on TV but I wasn't aware of the body building phase.
I loved watching Jack,I’m 60 and have his juicer.
I still have my Jack LaLanne juicer! It's 25 yrs old and works like a charm!
loved watching him on tv
