@@CreativeBuilds Indeed. Having driven a Tesla in FSD for a few days, I was already 'bounding' with the car. I could anticipate where it would fail, and in return it would bring me joy regularly : sentinel video clips once getting into the car, jaw dropping accelerations, Netflix while superharging... I see this relationship similar so what you could have with a loyal and smart dog. Except that this one is cleaner and might save your life.

I really like your analysis of the FSD scenarios you encounter. The reaction of human drivers to FSD is the same as their reaction to new drivers: impatience. FSD has come a long way and I hope for a wider release soon, and that would be OK as long as the driver remembers that the human is still responsible. It’s sort of like a flight instructor’s responsibility. Let the student make mistakes as long as there is no peril. I would say that that’s what Tesla’s doing, and we are all the students as well as the instructor and safety pilot.

that kinda defeats the purpose of AI driving... the best optimization would be ALL cars on autopilot and ALL responding in an homogenous and predictable manner... @@metaZen it'd be better to just have an aggression slider. If you feel it's too aggressive and quick and fast and too much for your liking just turn it down. Other than that it will still drive like a human in a predictable way. For now it's not an issue because as long as it still behaves like a human it's fine, eventually once all cars are autonomous then they won't be following those rules anymore anyway they will just kind of drive wherever they want whenever

Good collection! Some very strange hesitations but, if those were the only problems, I'd be happy. My main concern is that it be able to get from A to B safely, in a reasonable amount of time. Doing so smoothly and efficiently is a secondary problem. Unfortunately, I've seen a lot bigger errors than these, ones that were definitely unsafe (like running into cars unsafe). But it would be cool to see a side-by-side comparison of a drive on the same path from version 1 and the latest version. The improvement is palpable.

Thank you, as a Model S owner for a year I enjoyed your video very much. Well here in Japan software update is wa…y behind: no navigate on autopilot, no traffic light stop/go yet: FSD is far beyond reach. Watching your video where FSD froze behind the stalled SUV, I was thinking why FSD doesn’t pick up the meaning of flashing hazard lamps. That car should have been recognized as an obstacle and should have been passed by. In urban Tokyo where I drive daily, narrow roads, erratic lane markings, dense traffic, will be foreseeable challenges to FSD. The other car’s turn signals and stop lamps are important cues what that car is about to do next. Picking up such information could be useful for smooth and seamless FSD in busy traffic.

12:39 I recall all the way back almost 40 years ago to driver's education... taught to "separate potential hazards", usually by slowing down to control the timing (occasionally by speeding up). This is a great example where you want to separate the oncoming truck from the parked cars. A difficult thing to teach a neural network, because you need to curate training examples from the best defensive drivers. I'm not sure the average human driver makes any adjustment in this situation.

In my experience sometimes a cop will wait round the corner from a stop sign. Every car which does a 'California stop' will almost certainly get a ticket. Some road situations are designed to generate revenue, the stop sign has very little to with road safety.

As the FSD AI becomes increasingly sentient, I hope you'll look for an opportunity to do a video interview of the AI, to get its side of the story. You might even ask the AI to rate you as a legacy driver ;-)

Can certainly see the improvements over the 7 beta builds. Feels like unprotected lefts especially when the traffic is moving at a fairly high rate of speed (40+mph) that FSD really struggles. One other thing that strikes me is when I travel to new areas I'm much more likely to get in the wrong lane. I believe that FSD is in the same situation but all the time. It's not supposed to remember that the last time I drove this road the driver over ride my decision and moved the car to a different lane. Am I right in that assumption? Keep up the great videos.

Right on about turning into fast moving traffic. For a car that can get from 0 to 60mph in under 3 and a half seconds I've never seen FSD use even a fraction of that awesome power.

Wonder if designers are considering individual preference controls: slower speed over speed bumps; no California roll at stop signs, stop at yellow instead of 'running' even when light has not turned red. I am sure there are other preferences often based on localized driver behavior. Agree with others, AIDRIVR puts together excellent test videos!

Nice to see an S using FSD - most videos are the 3. As you say, way to go. Fantastic though it is, even in this short video there are multiple examples of issues which just do not happen with human drivers. I do worry that FSD will be rolled out to all and have a lot of bingles prompting insurers to jack up rates.

I realize how much Tesla will have to adapt for each country when you talked about the stop line. Here in France if you don't mark the stop (0 mph) you can loose 4 points out of 12 on your driving license.

First off, appreciate your content! It's certain that there has been some progress since it first rolled out, but also true that it has a long way to go. Given the leak of the internal email about the holiday update, it seems like we're getting FSD in some form. I'm wondering what that would mean. I'm assuming the version with either restricted functionalities or driver confirmation of every turn. Worst case scenario, another FSD visualization preview like last year...I really hope it's not the case.

I can see that FSD has progressed at lot, there is still more to improve. Having said that I wonder just how long it will take for drivers to learn to trust it. The old we are (and I'm 76) the harder it will be to just sit back and trust FSD. My guess it may take a generation before it is fully trusted. Which will no doubt many years after it has been achieved.

@4:47 I think what is happening there is that, it makes a decision but then finds it's not going to work so it makes a "virtual stop", and like many times when waiting in stops or traffic lights, moves the steering wheel, then decides to make another move/trajectory but again soon realizes is not doable, and again makes a "virtual stop", until it succeeds... or not. It should move the steering wheel when is 90% sure it is going to work, if not just don't move it, if it takes too much time show a message like "I'm thinking about this...", and if takes too long "I can't figure it out" and disengage fsd. The issue here is that it makes a long chain of "small decisions", and sometimes at first cannot guess correctly what is the end result, so it keeps aborting after just a few steps into that chain.

Am I the only one whose mind is completely blown by this? The state of FSD is that it's essentially ready. Sure, you have to occasionally help it when it gets stuck, but that's a minor inconvenience--I imagine it will be years before that manual assistance is *never* needed, but we are basically there. the 99% is done, now it's just that 1% that needs work. It amazes me that there are still people out there saying that Tesla's approach may not work out, or that FSD is still a theory. It's not a theory; it's happening right before our eyes.
