FSD neural net is connected with thousands of cars on the road so it is able to learn at a much faster rate. Perhaps we can assume it might be able to learn most of it in 10 months than what an average human driver learn in 10 years.

WOW! I've seen lots of "My Tesla is learning to drive" videos, but this is the first one that shows HOW it's learning to drive, and it is fascinating. This was great. It answers so many questions. Neural networks and the fleet... Now that it's been pointed out, it makes so much. sense.

Bottom line. Tesla teaches their cars to “think”. Everyone else teaches their cars to “do”. You can’t teach a car to “do” everything, but once it can “think” it can “do” anything.

More reason why cars need cameras and not Lidar, we drive with our eyes, same concept as cameras. Tesla is already able to see more than the human eye, especially with multiple cameras.

Which is exactly why it looks like they're behind. But NN is not as intuitive as the human NN, so it needs lots and lots of examples to finally get it 99.999%. And Tesla has exactly the data collection ability to teach their NN to actually think, at some point it'll be like a switch and it'll all click into place and "just work".

@@sterrshow5016 I don't get it. ZOOX uses lidar, radar and cameras. What is wrong with using more information? It is more expensive, but from a technical standpoint I don't see a problem. Every sensor has advantages and disadvantages, the others don't have. Why not combine them? That doesn't necessarily mean such a car relies on all sensors working all the time perfectly. It just gives you more safety.

  • @techman2553

And when he says "ask the fleet" for examples of a scenario, that doesn't mean asking the Tesla drivers to send in examples, that means transmitting image patterns to the hundreds of thousands of vehicles in the fleet and activating automated pattern detection and reporting direct from the AI. So if they need more examples of how to navigate around a car towing a boat, they can send a simplified image template of what a car towing a boat looks like, and hundreds of thousands of cars will scour their camera footage continuously for anything that matches that pattern and automatically transmit video clips to the Tesla servers to aide in further training. Image how powerful that is. Your vehicle almost drives over a pile of garbage on the side of the road, so you hit the little camera button to let Tesla know of the issue. An engineer at Tesla reviews the clip and decides, yep - this needs better training. They put together a simple search pattern for identifying anything that might be garbage on the side of the road and transmit it to the entire fleet of Tesla vehicles, and almost instantly data from all over the country starts pouring in - countless new examples of possible garbage on the side of the road, ready for filtering and training updates to the AI to identify it and navigate around it. Now send hundreds of pattern requests for all kinds of stuff and collect millions of new datasets all day and night to help train the AI for numerous other situations. It's absolutely brilliant. The more cars that are on the road, the faster every crazy corner case can be identified, collected en masse, and trained into the AI. Anything unusual comes up and they can with a click request their army of mobile cameras that are roaming the roads to find and send fresh data for them to use in solving the issue.

I already knew most of this. I’ve seen all the videos (including the Karpathy talks) and figured out the same stuff. However, I could never explain it this well. You’ve done an amazing job researching, finding the correct pieces from other videos and drawing the correct conclusion! Very well put together. There is a lot of misconception out there and many people have no idea, how all of this stuff works and why it matters, how Tesla solves these problems. I think it’s an essential part that Elon Musk as the company CEO understands this, too. And it’s a big problem for other manufacturers, that their CEOs don’t have much understanding of the IT side of the cars. Anyway, this is a great video and now I can finally share on this when I discuss about this topic to show other people all these points (without referring them to multiple hour long videos).

This new video proves you actually understand the "demand" and that you are capable to produce original content in an environment where we have been flooded with "left turn right turn, drive". 12:24 Agreed. What it shows in the visualization is there for the user, based on things like certainty(of what it is seeing), relevance, distance, minimizing processing, and probably some limit to avoid the scene being too visually cluttered. When it comes to the AI driving, all objects at all times are going to be accounted for. But the UI Visualization is completely separate -- it makes decisions on what is interesting/useful to show the user, based on the output of the AI.

This is a superb analysis, I think you've worked out how FSD does its 'magic' and it's fascinating info. Makes me feel slightly sorry for Waymo et al :-)

Don't worry about the length of your videos. I'm waiting for my Beta.... But yours are very well done, and I wish they didn't end. :)

13:20 another example of what FSD can see and doesn't show: Clearly the stop lights are shown in visualization but, the post which hold them up aren't. This is most likely to keep the visualization decluttered and or to keep gpu usage to a minimum. Great video! Thumbs this video up!
