With the release of their self-titled debut, The Ocean Blue quickly achieved widespread acclaim and radio & MTV airplay with top 10 Modern Rock/College Radio hits like "Between Something and Nothing", "Drifting, Falling", and "Vanity Fair". Followed by Cerulean, Beneath the Rhythm and Sound , and See The Ocean Blue, the band's fanbase grew with each release.
The band continued to several records, including 2000's Davy Jones Locker and 2004's Waterworks. In 2013, the band released their first full length record in a decade, Ultramarine, on Korda Records. In 2015, the band worked with Sire Records to reissue their first three albums on vinyl, and toured North America and South America, where some of their most passionate fans reside.
In 2019, the band returned with the beautifully powerful Kings and Queens / Knaves and Thieves, and has continued to tour for this release and the newly re-issued vinyl of See The Ocean Blue (2022) and Davy Jones Locker (2023).

Brian Kelly Holy shit, me too. Loved The Church. Haven't listened to Starfish in the longest time! I've been trying to purge my memory, lately, of as many bands (mostly obscure) as possible that I loved. Stuff like Railway Children, House of Love, Ride, Stone Roses, The Wonder Stuff, OMD, New Order, Crowded House, DM, The Hollow Men, Lightening Seeds, Big Audio Dynamite, Hoodoo Gurus, Echo and the Bunnymen, etc.

These guys still sell out venues in the indie circuit to this day. Their music seems to be remembered way more positively than many groups who were more mainstream than them at the time. I got to say, as someone who's relatively new to their catalog, I really dig this song.

All the tracks on their debut album are superb! Love Ocean Blue! Most under-rated band ever.
Ocean Blue, equipo extraordinario!!
This song has one of my most fave drum licks ever.
That guitar makes this song so unique. Timeless.
A classic of that pivotal late 80s/early 90s sound. I remember this hit the airwaves not long after the Bunnymen broke up and the guitar riff, particularly the solo was just what us indie college kids needed to help us think of what Will Sergeant would be playing if the Bunnymen were still around. That is said as a compliment to this band. I cannot recall ever hearing a weak song from them. I read years ago that the lead singer became a lawyer after they disbanded. And this is EXACTLY how indie college kids looked around that time.
How dis this NOT blow up and get GIGANTIC?? The Ocean Blue shined so brightly for a very short 2 album life span. Many great tracks, but this just outshines everything...the guitar, guitar, guitar. Dammit, bring back the 90s NOW!

This was played a decent bit on MTV around '88/'89 and I loved it, but it was mining the earlier territory of the Smiths/EchoBunnymen, etc., and grunge was about to be heavily pushed by the music industry as you probably know. We can look back on this now and appreciate its awesome timelessness.

There's a certain beauty ,elegance and power that encapsulates this song. It's been 30+ years since this came out. Still holds up against anything currently released. This song, could be released now...and it would be huge. The guitar work is superb, the drumming is precise and strong. Also, the production of this song, is simply superb. An under appreciated gem.

Saw them at Mississippi Nights (St. Louis) in 1990! They opened for The Mighty Lemon Drops and killed! They played their entire debut album and then showered the crowd with Hershey candy bars. What a fantastic sound. So clean but full. Every instrument is perfectly balanced--Schelzel's voice, the chiming guitar, the steady bass, the piano slipping in and out, and I love the cymbal bell work. Damn, so great to slip into this song again.

God, what memories. Was listening to new music and heard this the very day I heard Toad The Wet Sprocket. That whole era was so distinct. The Sundays, Echo and The Bunnymen, The Church, The Cure. There was a mystery and a magic to the vibe that has not been duplicated. It was around this time that I discovered Acid House and Trance and I never looked back. But this was one of those last conventional bands I recall loving.
The drumming in this song is sooooo damned efficient, putting little accents where needed, like raisins in a bread. No need for complicated 7/6th shuffle movements combined with Creole traditional music drumming like Jeff Porcaro of Toto fame would have proposed. This song just needed a strong, simple beating, with lots of caresses of the cymbals on the right spots. And those delicate extra's by the keyboards, ohhh oh again so to the point. No unnecessary Wakeman-tralala, just art deco-ish, simple notes for the right atmosphere... Wow !
SUCH a sorely under-rated group. Cerulean album got me through so many difficult nights.

Like Book of Love, this band was one of the best things to come out of Pennsylvania. Oddly, the PA band everyone seems to remember from the 80s is The Hooters who had the one hit "And We Danced". Tragic. Especially considering the numerous hits that Ocean Blue and Book of Love had all over the place on college radio. IF only the mainstream radio stations outside of PA had found these bands.... Regardless, we're all blessed now thanks to KZread. Greatest song of all time? Guitar solo is amazing, can listen to this all day. Romantic at heart
my cool older sister had the ocean blue cassette tape and I would hide it from her and listen to it in my headphones on my bmx bike, I remember it was summer and I was starting to yearn for something more, something romantic, something I could sense but was too young to understand. It was the essence of cool and the feelings of melancholy as the summer was winding down, chasing all the fun, searching for that one true love
This takes me back to when I was a preteen/teenager and I didn't know about gothic music,at least it wasn't defined, and music like this fit in between being indie, moody, just esoteric
Appreciated every note and lyric for years. You flow like no other band. Authentic, yet memorable. Ocean Blue, I hope you guys are somehow still friends and able to pass on you talents to a younger generation in need of your magic. Much respect and love. JJS

@@levijones9854 Not too far from Utah. Now that this damn pandemic is easing up, it's time to enjoy life again. San Diego/I.B. is the best.
Damn. This brings back memories of watching this video all the time on "Post-Modern MTV" back in '89.
I was 17 when this came out. Bought it right away and haven't looked back. Had the haircut and saw them twice in the 90's. Really loved the first three records and still resonate with me to this day.
can't stop listening to this great band every time I feel happy or sad, it doesn't matter, they are really great and hope they'll come back to Peru...

The last hurrah of the New Wave Scene was in 1990, with the song pure by the lightning seeds, and getting away with it from electronic.

i thank the Switzerland radio Couleur 3: thanks to this radio i was able to buy the lp. A grat record. In 1989.
this ban was one of my favorite back in the days. .
I witnessed Ocean Blue many years ago at was once called Goucher College in Towson, MD. Me, being an amateur vocalist was impressed with the show. I now wish that the band would reappear on the East Coast of US (near their home) to show my son the the proper way to be in a band.

such a good song from an underrated band, very distinguished even in their age
One of my favorite 80’s songs. Saw a free show they put on at CSULB in the late 80’s.
