With the release of their self-titled debut, The Ocean Blue quickly achieved widespread acclaim and radio & MTV airplay with top 10 Modern Rock/College Radio hits like "Between Something and Nothing", "Drifting, Falling", and "Vanity Fair". Followed by Cerulean, Beneath the Rhythm and Sound , and See The Ocean Blue, the band's fanbase grew with each release.
The band continued to several records, including 2000's Davy Jones Locker and 2004's Waterworks. In 2013, the band released their first full length record in a decade, Ultramarine, on Korda Records. In 2015, the band worked with Sire Records to reissue their first three albums on vinyl, and toured North America and South America, where some of their most passionate fans reside.
In 2019, the band returned with the beautifully powerful Kings and Queens / Knaves and Thieves, and has continued to tour for this release and the newly re-issued vinyl of See The Ocean Blue (2022) and Davy Jones Locker (2023).

I only discovered them (purely by chance) over the weekend, on youtube - I am beyond peeved that I had not heard of them sooner! It seems incredible that in the late 80's and right through the 90's (my teens to 20's) I was always looking out for good bands and I never discovered them - gutted! Where are you? I'm in the UK - I wonder if that is why. I don't remember ever hearing them on the radio and my friend's dad paid for MTV etc, so we used to watch regularly, so I really don't understand why I've never heard them before. I used to listen to John Peel on the radio and he introduced me to some belter tunes. Then, like you say, going into independent record shops, but they didn't have a listening facility, so I used to randomly buy records from this one tiny store which was probably only 12 feet by 10 feet square, but they crammed the records in, and almost everything they had was absolutely mint. That's how I first discovered the band Curve, I liked the cover of their single and just impulse-bought it. The guy who worked there knew his stuff and if you said you liked a certain band he could point you in the right direction of other things you'd probably like. He had no problem playing stuff for you, but I used to go in my college lunch hour because I went to college in a different town, so I had limited time. My goodness I'm writing a book on your comment, sorry I'll shut up now!

PS All that said, if this was first brought out in 2005 I'd not have stood a chance of hearing it, my son was 2 years old and I was crazy busy - i lost all spare time I used to have after work and at weekends to read books, write poetry, listen to music in abundance, it was mad, all gone in a flash. Wouldn't change it though, he's a brilliant young man, with very eclectic musical tastes, just like his mother!

Casi lloro.

333DGK Totally. Sad that in the late 80's early 90's in america it was only hair metal dying out and grunge coming in. Then that stupid girl hippie rock. Totally obnoxious and is why many of us in america had to turn to the ROSES, happy mondays, and then finally blur and oasis. I didn't even know this band existed til the early 2000's. Fuck america is fucking stupid sometimes.

I know you wrote this 5 years ago, but if you come by this way I'd like to hear more about this. Hmm. Do you mean mean singers like Sarah McLaughlin? I wouldn't call her music rock, though. You asking what is says about you since it only has 87,000(at the time) and is your favorite song is your answer. Pretentious.

I just love how unpretentious and devoid of irony they and their music are. They sincerely set out to make heartfelt, almost innocent pop beauty, and they succeeded. This music is the antidote to hipster music.

AudiophileTubes Oh sad the day... everyone thinks "well they don't make music like they used to, the stuff today is garbage". Ya right!... PLENTY of great music has come out in 2000-present (I'd say the 90's and 70's were two pretty weak fucking decades with exceptions of course). In fact I'd say more choices of genre, and better bands than ever came out 2000 to present (as a whole era that is not just single bands... no one will ever top the Beatles).

+urwholefamilydied son Well, i've lived 54 years thus far, and you are the ONLY person who claim that the 70's were weak, musically! That says a lot about you. Just the fact that so many music listeners claim that today's music IS (mostly) weak, speaks volumes. Sure there is some decent music today, but it is few and far between compared to the past decades where free-form creativity (and supported by record companies) was king! I was an A&R guy at Atlantic Records back in the 80's, and all my industry contacts seem to agree that today's pop/rock music is lame in comparison. One thing is for sure though... it is much harder to BE 'original' today, since so many genres and subgenres have been explored and exhausted.

+AudiophileTubes ya right. Go catch Thee Oh Sees someday. Record companies and A&R guys held back artists. The beatles almost didn't get signed because of people like you.
