With the release of their self-titled debut, The Ocean Blue quickly achieved widespread acclaim and radio & MTV airplay with top 10 Modern Rock/College Radio hits like "Between Something and Nothing", "Drifting, Falling", and "Vanity Fair". Followed by Cerulean, Beneath the Rhythm and Sound , and See The Ocean Blue, the band's fanbase grew with each release.
The band continued to several records, including 2000's Davy Jones Locker and 2004's Waterworks. In 2013, the band released their first full length record in a decade, Ultramarine, on Korda Records. In 2015, the band worked with Sire Records to reissue their first three albums on vinyl, and toured North America and South America, where some of their most passionate fans reside.
In 2019, the band returned with the beautifully powerful Kings and Queens / Knaves and Thieves, and has continued to tour for this release and the newly re-issued vinyl of See The Ocean Blue (2022) and Davy Jones Locker (2023).

Honestly, why this song did not make them mega-stars is beyond me. Incredible lyrics and music. Perfection.

Its awesome but really more of a B-side and more for the true Ocean Blue fan. It just seems a bit variable in its tempo for what "pop" demanded at the time. The sax sounds great and all the elements are present. The constant flow I believe is lacking for the masses. If that makes sense. Listen to Ballerina and Between.Something and Nothing. Then come back to this and I think youll understand my point.

Yeah I met them and always love them. I think they didn’t get enough air play which is often the case. I was a DJ for 12 years, by invitation. It’s amazing how much music does not get exposed to the public but I think it is dependent upon that unfortunately. They were sweet guys. They have a special vibe may not be appreciated by everyone. I think you have to have a certain musical sensitivity to be hip to these guys

I bought their albums and it was much slower than their more popular tracks. I bought a few albums and it was ok. I guess I was looking for more of an upbeat album like these hits of theirs. And yes I was surprised to when I found out they were from Hershey Pennsylvania. Still an excellent band. I appreciate the slower stuff as I have gotten older (50).

@frankpalomino - The Ocean Blue never became mega stars, because most of our country and Europe are into that garbage, POS hip-hop music that goes around. The boys at Ocean blue never wanted to sell out to mainstream. They kept true to themselves…. And that’s to create beautiful lyrics and music like this

Actually they suck except for a couple songs. And they got a major label deal and sold an ass ton more records than 99.9% of bands. Not sure how much more "recognition" they deserved. Why do you feel sorry for them?

Although I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of this band, this one song is such a pure distillation of a certain feeling many of us had around the late 80s/early 90s; a melancholy, dreaming, Kids in the Hall, kind of feeling. It's absolutely beautiful.

Their debut album is one of those rare works that is "all killer, no filler" - there's not a weak spot on that whole disc. Every song is absolutely beautiful, and the entire thing meshes perfectly. And much like my fellow GenX'ers who became fans when this was released, this track evokes some very distinct memories - as does the entire album.

Cerulean was an even better album from start to finish, as I didn't discover them until that point, for whatever reason. The third album was the pinnacle of that time period, and then it all shifted gears when they left Sire. Still, I just got a ticket to see them at a small live music venue here in town, and I'm stoked as I've never gotten to see them all these years...

KROQ played this song quite a bit through 1990. Kevin & Bean and Jed the Fish in the afternoon. Sounded just like early ‘80s Haircut 100 to me. The lead guy really has the Morrisey bounce going there. What a cool band and great song. Hershey is kind of an odd town, the huge chocolate company is totally reclusive and private. Very British style band for sure.

Agreed. Even utter shit from the 80s like Poison sounds good compared to the idiocy being churned out today.

I would have bet my life savings that these guys were British. They have a very British aesthetic and sound. Now that I know are from Hershey Penn. the “cocoa st” and “chocolate ave” make more sense.

Thanks for posting! WFNX-FM rocked in Boston... great Djs.... glad someone else remembers.... Newbury Comics (and Aimee Mann working there).... the concerts at the Orpheum Theatre/Opera House..... the British new wave music.... local bands like The Atlantics, Primary Colors, November Group.... just the best time for that music..... all gone now.... cities in dust!

The railroad crossing seen in the distance at 3:04 is located on US-322 in Hummelstown, PA. The tracks and crossing are still there, but those classic crossing signal cantilevers were replaced in 2021 and 2022.
