1989 sitting on the floor of my apartment in NYC with some girl I just met. Playing this song on my stereo trying to impress her with my stereo and taste in music. 32 years later still together married 31 years , two kids all grown up. Here I am still listening to The Church.

I’m 56, been a fan since the mid 80’s, got to see them in about 85. A guy I met in College, he & I became friends over this band, he passed away a couple of years ago from a heart attack, gone too soon 😢 I saw his widow shortly after and she said “Matt always loved The Church, and when he talked about them, your name would always come up” made my cry, it’s amazing how wonderful music is an interwoven part of our lives. I’m really looking forward to their new music in 2023 🙌🏼

@@christopherneufelt8971 I totally agree with you. History does repeat itself. About 500-700 years ago, Asian countries (Persia, the Mongols, China,...were the economic and military powerhouses). From there, the powers and influences shifted to Europe (England, Germany, Spain, Portugal, France). These European countries had almost total control of the world. From the Americas (north and south), Africa, Asia, all the way to Australia and New Zealand. Over the past decade, I'm seeing how the balance of power (economic and military) is shifting back to Asia. India presently has the largest population, followed by China. India is also a great economic and military powerhouse. China beats India in the population, economic, military categories, but it is the most powerful country right now, because of its armed forces (China has more people in her military forces than most countries populations, and a nonstop booming economy. And I totally agree with you about the present condition of mother Earth. Looking at the present situations, I think it would be totally amazing if our world survives another 500 years. Of course, the planet Earth is already doomed (but not by us lousy humans). In about 5 billion years, our sun will become a super-giant star. It'll become so big that it will easily reach the distance where the Earth is (about 93 million miles). Our planet will be swallowed by our sun.

@@jimmycameron6568 Good night (is 10:10 PM here in Switzerland)!. The situation that I describe is due to the luck of life that bought to the world all of the luxury that we are currently living. Historically speaking, most of the empires get destroyed when the luxury substitutes the desire for living. Especially the artists, are very sensitive to the emotional deficit that this luxury offers, and this results to the production of great works of arts. Every power demands are just consequences of this situation. Sorry, I will not iterate more of this since I am in not good health. Take care yourself and the people you love.

Too dangerous to keep Too feeble to let go And you want to bite the hand Shoulda stopped this long ago Go now, you've been set free Another month or so you'll be gorging on me With your lovely smile I see you slither away with your skin and your tail Your flickering tongue and your rattling scales Like a real reptile Had you coiled around my arm How could you ever know How I loved your diamond eyes But that was long ago Go now, you've been set free Another month or so you'll be poisoning me With your lovely smile I see you slither away with your skin and your tail Your flickering tongue and your rattling scales Like a real reptile And I should have believed Eve She said we had to blow She was the apple of my eye It wasn't long ago Go now, you've been set free Another month or so you'll be poisoning me With your lovely smile I see you slither away with your skin and your tail Your flickering tongue and your rattling scales Like a real reptile Go now, you've been set free Another month or so you'll be poisoning me With your lovely smile I see you slither away with your skin and your tail Your flickering tongue and your rattling scales Like a real reptile

Yeah the injustice. Like being bombed on, poisoned, enslaved the people w/their ALL CAPS name on birth certificate turned into a cestui que trust (bond) & trade it on the stock exchange. Look it up. EVERYTHING is a trust. Your signature on your auto/home loan, credit card purchases, school loans, life insurance, insurance in general. It's the illusion of freedom. The spinning ball deception, the Vatican rules & owns everyone & everything via the crown corporation. Thdy take your sole/soul at birth on your certificate. And "residence" is a legal term for where the goods (you/your kids)are stored.Your all caps name on our birth certificate, d/l, ss card etc is a corps: corporate dead entity. But there is a REMEDY. Just like jason mraz was trying to tell us. It's dangerous but it's serious. Public vs Private High frequency radio channel, the hailrazor, hisadvocate, TJ. aplanetruth 2, ODD TV aka ODD Reality, flat earth universe, santos bonacci. Red Skies are coming. The Fixx tried to warn us. But we all confused it for entertainment.

This song marks a turning point for me. I live in San Diego, where the classic rock station is 101.5 FM, which I listened to from 1986 to 1993. It was fine and all, however, after about seven years of hearing Led Zeppelin and the Stones over and over again, it started getting old. So, one day, I started channel surfing when I came across this song on 91x (the alternative rock station). It had already been out for a few years, but it sounded very fresh to me because I had been listening to Zep and the Stones over and over again. I loved it, and over the next few months, I kept listening to 91x waiting for them to play it again. They never did (at least not when I was listening); however, all the time I spent listening/waiting, I was hearing other excellent alternative rock bands, e.g., Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Cracker, etc., and came to realize that the then-new music was just as good if not better than that classic dinosaur stuff I had been listening to. Today, while I maybe a a few months shy of 53, I still listen to 91x ("The 'cutting edge' of rock") and am up to date on all the newest and "coolest" bands - all thanks to The Church and Reptile. Thanks for reading, and until next time - peace out!

A few years out of high school, some 'band mates' and I tried to cover this song... Decades ago. NO way could we begin to come close to its magic. That said, the synergy that sometimes happens when great writing, good playing, and appropriate mixing comes together, we get the reward - for a lifetime of great associated memories. Long live the 80s!

Right you are... But, here is to remaining optimistic! ; ) I was lucky enough to see The Church again this year, at The NORVA, in Norfolk, VA in April 2023. It was so worth going to see them again... Their set list was a blend of their latest album, The Hypnogogue (2023), (which has had some very strong reviews) and is very good. The sets were laced with the story flowing in this concept album, and of course they played many of their classics. And though, Steve is the only remaining founding member, (Even without the incomparable Marty (2011) and Peter (2022)) The Church are now composed like a supergroup, with also very talented purveyors of sound (Tim Powles/ drums, producer, formal member since the early mid-1990's, Ian Houge from Powder Finger/Band member since 2012, plus Jeffrey Cain from Remey Zero and Ashely Naylor from Paul Kelly's band...) So, great musicians and panache of a legendary, seasoned rock band. Thankfully, they have allowed Steve Kilbey to continue his creative process eccentricities and iconic storytelling presence, which merges into to the excellent musicianship and artistic dynamic that is the evolution of the The Church itself. This equates to a huge, wide and rich catalog (including the new material) of guitar-based music. Thankfully!

Back in 86 or the whereabouts Marty came to a show of my band in LA. He and his friend approached me after our gig and asked if I wanted to fly to Australia and record the drums for his solo album. My band was on the verge of being signed and didn’t want to leave them hanging as we were playing together since 81 when we were 13 year olds. I think Marty liked one of our songs and probably hummed it over and over. This song here was faster at the time he saw us and we slowed it down for the recording. The guitar hook in the chorus is the same as Reptile just different timing and probably a different key. A guitarist will know what I’m talking about. Believe it or not I believe we had an influence on him that night. Our singer played a couple of solo shows with Marty in Los Angeles and Marty did have a copy of our record therefor having Kevin open up for him. Hope you guys like it and listen to full record when you can. The Church are one of my all time favorites, saw them a few times back then. kzread.info/dash/bejne/l6p716xsj6-yZtY.html
