@@AbaNPreach Yeah I'm not down on the kid solely, necessarily. A whole bunch of events led up to this that needed scrutiny from all angles, and all involved should have assessed their behaviour and level of involvement first. This is the danger of polarised politics, reckless policing and extreme left and right personalities pitting us against each other and then staying out of the firing line. I'd love to see a drop in polarised or extremist politics after this, but let's be honest, those camps will never come together or compromise again. Not without radical change and actual consequences for shit stirrers.

It's clear that he's been fairly traumatized from the experience and now it's very likely that he'll never be able to live a normal life or get a normal job. It's just a really bad situation all the way around. All that being said, I definitely agree with the verdict. But the reason why he had to defend himself was because Rosenbaum and some others caught a dumpster on fire and were pushing it towards a gas station with a crowd of people around it. Kyle tried to stop them and put out the fire, which made Rosenbaum angry and it's why Rosenbaum chased him into the parking lot. That makes Kyle a hero in my book.

That was the kid with a skate board who wanted to be a hero.(but Kyle was also in the right to shot this man cause he was scared and being attacked. It’s a cluster fuck.) At the end of the day this needs to be the lesson of why protesters need to remand calm, collective, and of above all else peaceful. There have been plenty Black militia groups who have protested and only one of once has someone got hurt. Which was due to the negligence of one of the group members who shot his buddy in the leg. Where i think Kyle was a hero was before the shooting. The cleaning up, the medical assistance, the fire extinguisher and the defending of property. Thats jobs a strong police, medical and fire force would have handled but when those things dont work its the citizens job to step in. He didnt have to be there and he wasnt liable for any of it but he put his time and ultimately his life on the line to do that. Its brave and sure hero has lost some flavor over the years but he deserves it more than most things called heroes these days. I think hes todays hero but yesterdays citizen. Before our local forces were established itd just be citizens. Id love to see an america where people take local matters into their own hands. We have it so easy weve become so dependent its changing how we think and the direction of this country. In a brave country it wouldve been open and shut, the riot wouldve never happened and the news would be held responsible for what they say. Doesnt that sound awesome?

I personally really find both sides portrayals of the situation as pretty distasteful. Luke everyone just seems to ignore that the backdrop to this whole incident was a riot, literally the definition of the breakdown of society. No one involved in this incident did something good. Kyle Rittenhouse isn't a hero for walking into a riot as a civilian open carrying a rifle, he's an idiot. Being an idiot though obviously doesn't mean though that you loose your right to defend yourself. As for the people he shot, they were also idiots who decided to attack a guy literally holding a gun. Even them I don't blame though, since what do you expect to happen in a riot other than people attacking people? The only people who truly deserve the blame for this incident are the people responsible for allowing the riot in the first place, because they created a situation which virtually guaranteed people would get hurt or killed. The mayor of Kenosha who let it continue, the police who stood by and watched as law and order broke down, and the organizers who brought people there with no attempt at controlling them. They are the ones responsible. If the leaders had stepped up to the plate and actually led, no one would have died in Kenosha, but instead they just allowed civilians to fight and loot in the street, and wonder why people got killed. Riots and armed mobs were once seen as the most extreme event that could ever happen in politics, the sign of collapsing at society. Now somehow we have "riot privilege," where groups can claim that to stop them would be a violation of their rights. Both sides are responsible for this, and both sides need to step back and really consider the consequences of questioning the right of laws and governments to exist.

The worst part is how the DA took the case to court because of politics. He saw all the videos and even if he believed Kyle was guilty, the videos provided more than enough reasonable doubt for anyone to find him innocent. This wasn't the DAs first day on the job, so he knew that it was unwinnable. So why even take it to court? And then he was accused of witness tampering by his own witness.

Watching the trial in its entirety was a great reminder to me of the importance of the presumption of innocence. Today, everyone is too quick to pull the trigger on who is innocent and guilty, but it isn’t our job to do that. Especially in the eyes of the law, the burden of proof isn’t on the defendant to prove innocence, it’s on the state to prove that according to laws and evidence at play, that the person is guilty. Nick Rikieta said something that stuck personally for me, and it was about how his mindset changed about the presumption of innocence. He said that when he would see someone get pulled over or talking with a cop, his mind would automatically think, “what did that person do to get in trouble?” The presumption of guilt came before innocence. When he started to think instead, “What did that person do wrong in the eyes of the law?” His mindset shifted from assuming guilt in individuals to continuing to think innocent until proven guilty; the burden shifted to the state. I think it’s easy to get caught up in the default settings in our brains to automatically assume the worst in people, and those settings could be based in personal experience throughout life or other factors. If people want to close divides that separate individuals, then instead of looking for what makes all of us guilty, we need to start seeing the potential for good each person has, despite the slip ups and mistakes made along the way. It’s the type of patience we would want to receive in our weakest moments, so extending that same patience to others makes sense. Be prepared for the worst, but always assume the best in those around you. It’s that attitude of working on yourself, before seeking to help others.

Can we question Rittenhouse's judgement for being at the scene in the first place? Sure. I wouldn't say the idealistic attitude of "I can help" speaks to sound judgement. Can we question the judgement of his mother for letting him go? Sure, although the kid was 17 at the time-I'm not sure she could have stopped him if she tried. But what we can't question is the evidence. Rittenhouse was there to help, however stupid that might have been, and a certain group of the rioters-yes, rioters-made it their prerogative to not only directly threaten Rittenhouse's life, but then act on that threat. Ironically, the kid did exactly what you're supposed to do in a defense situation: he retreated to the best of his ability, and he used proportional force when the situation called for it i.e. when he was on his ass, and a violent group of individuals (one, or possibly three if you count the Zeminiskys [spelling?]) put his life in danger. Anybody who can't recognize the facts-facts backed up with a glut of testimonial and video evidence-is a clown, and part of the reason why the social climate is the way it is today.

This trial black pilled me so much about the media and about youtube/twitch politics. In the past 3 weeks, I continuously cringed whenever I "had to" listen to people talking about this case.

It's tough to see man. So many people wanted to see him fry just because they viewed him to be on the side of their enemy. The context didn't really matter at all. Some people, including the prosecutor, went so far as to call a literal pedo a hero. Fun fact, he had a go fund me that raised $25k. Imagine denoting money to honor the memory of a pedo. The world has gone mad.
